  1. Quien es Seor T.?
  2. They have a good pen. But yeah, the domino effect that comes from the batting struggles seems to be a pig ugly pile. And Davis has been the big domino.
  3. Andrew Brown short-circuited his potential callup by hurting his oblique. Now Lutz hurts his.
  4. Yeah, it's a career performance, but some margin for error would really, really help. (And Tejada allows a baserunner.)
  5. That's the saddest little maudlin signoff. Come on! Buck up! People care! And it's enough that YOU care!
  6. Seemed like they were only six games under six games ago. The commitment to Ike has cost them, but...
  7. You get a two-way prospect, I always thought it'd be a fun way to do it to have him pitch during the summer, and play outfield in winter ball --- or vice versa if the team favors him as a batter. Injury risk is increased, but that's maybe a fair tradeoff for a guy with two-way potential. Chances are it wouldn't work, and you drop it after two years, but you at least can be sure you made the right choice, and he reaches the bigs with experience on the other side of the ball if you need it.
  8. It could be. I just see pitchers working without a net. Ike whiffs. Day's proceedings were missing that.
  9. How's about not gettng shut out over 11 innings today?
  10. Valdespin getting plunked on the hand. That's what this game needed.
  11. Josh Lewin reads the MLB "rebroadcast, retransmission" warning, and caps it with, "And honestly, if you're going to be disseminating, I don't know why you'd choose this one."
  12. I get why there are napkins and wrappers out there blowing around in center. I don't get who is out there buying food. Unless it's stress eating.
  13. Lewin going on about damage control, underscoring how Gee has pitched as well as most in most of his innings. His problem is that where others might have the occasional one- or two-run innings, Gee gives up five-run innings. That, I think, happens with teams who don't score. Pitchers kill themselves trying to be too perfect.
  14. Not enough to outsex Mike Nickeas, Anthony. You need to outhit him, too. And that's not such a tall order.
  15. No kudos for yielding about 17 straight two-out hits in the fifth, giving the Braves a 5-0 lead. Two hits so far for the Mets, the sort of offense that presses the pitcher to perfect, which they can be, until they're not, and then dams break.
  16. Hey, it's a Recker day! He can whiff too!
  17. We're in the the bottom of the second inning, and there's no score, and no thread, and that's what we call Metsapathy.
  18. And Braves take the lead. See, I told you Lyon's ego would be at stake.
  19. Sounds like Burkhardt, Darling, and... somebody else.
  20. What do they have --- the backup booth crew working here?
  21. FANTASTIQUE time for a DP, though.
  22. My stars and garters. There are people at the ballpark.
  23. Ashie62 wrote: Hefner in the 7th was better than any option the Mets had in the pen.. Certainly seemed like as good a bet. Plus, you get a wonderful redundancy when you elect not to pull a pitcher who is doing well. Your choice isn't really between Hawkins and Hefner. It's between Hawkins and Hefner plus Hawkins looking over his shoulder. How easy is that decision? *** So, what's worse than going to bed after a four-strikeout game? Going to bed after a four strikeout game that it isn't over, knowing you may have another few strikeouts in you before the books are closd.
  24. "When he came off after the sixth, he could have probably started the seventh inning, because he was feeling OK," Collins said. "But I was so excited that he pitched so well after he's been so down about not winning a game. I said, 'I'm not going to let this kid lose this game. I'm not going to do that.' He needs to move forward with a positive attitude that he pitched very, very well. Even though he did pitch well, had something happened the next inning, he goes home feeling bad about it. And I didn't want that to happen." So it's not about winning, it's not losing. And if it's about getting a win for the guy, isn't a useful component to getting that win using a pitcher who is pitching well as long as he is able to go? If you see a long-term tangilble benefit to uplifting players by not putting them in a position to lose, please consider that it's a zero-sum game. So they take Hef out, and they lose, does he feel that much better, knowing the team lost but it's not on his record, and all his teammates know he wasn't permitted to help them any further for the protection to his delicate psyche. And now Lyon, or whoever gets the loss on his record is in need of psychological boost of his own. I'd be mad at Terry, but this is too much the mainstream perspective for me to hang it on him alone. I imagine four out of five managers would agree with him.
