  1. I hear ya. But I'd more hope he hits 74 homeruns.
  2. You don't need to be a desperate team to be one that could use a Matt Harvey.
  3. Josh and Allyson Satin, honeymooning in Thailand.
  4. The Daily Stache reviews the Twitterstorm around the R.A. Dickey trade. Things take off when @MitchNYM (who I pray is our old friend Mitch45) gets involved.
  5. Won't vote here, but I bailed after 15 minutes.
  6. That was largely triggered by me, it seems. I used the original lyrics, but I imput "Metropolitans," for Mets, to give the translating gnomes a fighting chance to approximate a foreign equivelant (I also spelled out abbreviations like "'cause" and "sockin'*." Probably in the Philippines, "Metropolitans" came to be understood as "Bishops." I imagine I failed to fix "jumpin'" and that's why we have the nonsense "jumpin're" there.
  7. From English to Italian to Swahili to Hindi to Tagalog and back to English, via Google Translate. Original lyrics, of course. Bishop completed! Bishop completed! Step right up and greet the bishop! Bring your children! Take your wife! Make sure that during your life! Why the Bishops' Ball sockin Knocking home runs over the wall! In the former In the West Everyone down And Bishop B-I-S-H-O-P-S meet New York City! Oh , the butcher and the baker and the people on the street , Where you lost? Bishop encounter! Oh , they are the ' hollerin their seats and cheerin' Jumpin're to play , Where you lost? Bishop encounter! All the fans are true to the orange and blue So hurry up and come! Because we have a ball club, Bishop of New York City! Give them scream! Give them a hand! And let them know you're cheering in the stands! Come on ...
  8. I feel uncomfortable remembering him until he's officially getting paid by somebody else.
  9. I'm sure it's possible that he can do all the right things and come back ahead of schedule while still obtaining responsible clearance from real doctors. Folks do it all the time. The big problem with the September scenario is the weeks he lost between the injury and the surgery. But let's be honest, everybody says they'll be back sooner than expected. I remember somebody (McEwing?) declaring that he didn't care about reports that his season was over, he knew in his heart he'd be back, failing to realize in his proclamation that the team had put him on the 60-day disabled list and there were less than 60 days left in the season. But you want the guy to be motivated. Rehab is hard. It's boring, it's lonely, and it's painful. Middle-aged folks sometimes love it because physical therapists are often young and fit and wear tight workout clothes and they touch you are are sometimes sexily strict, but in general, it's a big PitA, and focusing on a target, even (or especially) an unreasonably optimistic one, and celebrating your benchmarks are what gets you through it.
  10. I'm jazzed about this. It potentially continues our history of getting useful functionality out of Japanese starters in the years after their bignaiminess/bigbucksiness. Nomo, Ishii, Daisuke... let somebody else pay full freight. See you circa 2017-2018, Yu Darvish. Plus, you know this is stop-the-presses business for that reporter from whatever that New York pan-Asian newspaper is.
  11. A Parnell-insurance reliever that can slide to a supporting role if all works out with BP is a great idea, but it's interesting that they felt strongly enough about it that they didn't just bring back LaTroy Hawkins, but wanted someone a little closer to his prime, and were willing to go two years and real money for such a beast. Got to think Jeurys Familia has started his last game, and they're looking to make a bullpen staple out of him.
  12. Rodney's like a throwback embodiment of adrenaline-doofus relievers everywhere: Stupid-hat style? Check! Trademark save celebration? Check! Sometimes goofy facial hair? Check! Sometimes carrying a little extra at the beltline? Check! Claims to be a better pitcher in save situations? CHECK!! All he's missing is cliche metal entrance music and a necklace of teeth. What kind of rap sheet does he have? Neck tatts?

Of course, no guarantee he closes here, home's in Florida, no income tax there, Rays are as currently constructed a better team. I think it's interesting that the Mets were on this guy. If they were, who'd be their Plan B? OK, I'll try and answer my own question and continue to be intrigued with the notion of the Mets considering spending some $$ on a bullpen guy. Joel Hanrahan? Coming off injury but good enough to get a closer nod ahead of Uehara in Boston and price himself out of Pittsburgh. Fernando Rodney? Out of a job with Tampa. Wears hat with brim straight, offset. Evidently in talks with Baltimore. Bam! Reports pouring out placing the Mets in talks with Fernando Rodney.
  14. If they get him, great. If up his price for somebody else who eventually outbids them, great. I view him the way I do all non-Met players. With deep suspicion.
  15. I'd do either. I'd probably top at out somewhere near $25-26M, with a goodwill mutual option for 2016. That's a lot of lettuce for a guy who just reached triple digits in games for the first time in four years. Here's me being creative: Two years, $22 million, with a one million dollar bonus if he clears 100 games, and another million if he clears 130. If he clears, say, 270 games, that third year option of $14 million becomes automatic from the Mets side, but Drew can still opt out.
  16. What price would you put on the guy? Two years, and $22 million? $24 million?
  17. Looks like? Looks half Filipino and kind of sad. Not depressed sad, but grave. Has that clinical "baseball-is-serious-shit" face that Edgardo brought. He wore Jerry Grote's number and a really stupid-looking inverted "P" on his back. Memorable acts? Well, he triggered this encouraging report on pitch framing. His lone homer was a two-run job off of Rick Porcello, achieved on the wrong side of a blowout. Really, it was a soggy September for Mets debuts: den Dekker, Centeno, Flores, Tovar, and d'Arnaud all flailed in futility to one extent or another. But try not to let that discourage you. Duda and Tejada didn't hit a lick as September debutantes, but look at them now!
  18. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Bob Scheffing? Mets GM who was alleged by Reggie Jackson to have had, while serving in an earlier scouting role, an issue with inter-racial relationshipping.
  19. Mystery teams seem like bullshit, but Boras has managed to make good on such bluffs before. That said, a good 2/3 of me thinks that reports of the Yankees being interested have been carefully engineered by Boras and his agency. I think Harvey is the Mets' only current Boras client.
  20. Al Leiter in the upper deck with Lori: Eddie and Janice Murray making Bob Scheffing roll over in his grave.
  21. Dear Mr. Pugilese, I write to you as a long-time Met fan. Congratulations on WOR securing the rights to broadcast Mets games. It is a great time to get on board with the team and you will likely have a new and loyal listener in me. In that spirit, I note that WOR still hasn't announced who will be their broadcast team. Having listened to Mets radio broadcasts for decades, please know that my fellow fans and I have come to delight in the team of Howie Rose and Josh Lewin. Their New York roots, organizational knowledge, and their witty ability to bring historical and pop cultural references into their game accounts and booth banter make for great listening night after night, win or lose. We've heard a lot of lesser broadcasters over the years. And it certainly affects our willingness to continually tune in and stay tuned. It's hard to find a formula that works. This one works. Josh makes Howie better. Howie makes Josh better. They both make the game better. Please take steps to keep this broadcast team intact. Sincerely, Edgy MD
  22. How sad that clear channel stations don't even get their own internet domain.
  23. He pronounces it "Jo-EL," right? Like he's half Biblical prophet and half Krypton survivor?
  24. Top ten third base prospects... NO METS! Sell the team NOW!!!!
  25. I really put those three posts up to be silly. I don't care which report is most accurate. Grant Balfour. Pfft.
