  1. Daniel Murphy settles for $5.7 million, $50,000 bonus for 500 plate appearances.
  2. That was a force play, yeah.
  3. Jeter doesn't get the fake homerun. The Yankees don't win the 1996 World Series. And all the LIVING SHIT that flows from that NEVER HAPPENS. I'd give up the no-hitter for that six days in seven.
  4. MLB Pipeline has been releasing lists of top prospects by position. Yesterday, they have released the catcher rankings, with d'Arnaud on top and Plawecki given special honorable mention as a heatseeker just outside of the top ten. Today, they released the first base rankings, with Dom Smith number two.
  5. Continuing their historic pattern, spanning several regimess, of avoiding arbitration, the Mets announced today that they have settled with both Eric Young Jr. and Bobby Parnell. This follows on the heels of of arbitration agreements with Ike Davis and Ruben Tejada and Jonathan Niese. [list:1oawvzeh]Parnell: $3.7 million Davis: $3.5 million Young: $1.85 million Tejada: $1.1 million[/list:u:1oawvzeh] Still to come, Lucas Duda, Dillon Gee, and Daniel Murphy.
  6. Charlie comes crawling home. Manuel swallows his pride and takes a job as senior advisor to Phillies GM Ruben Amaro, Jr.
  7. Best exchange RobvanEyndhoven @RobvanEyndhoven @MetsFarmReport does the mets have any player from the kingdom of the netherlands in the farm? #askmetsfarm _________________________________________________ Mets Farm Report @ MetsFarmReport .@RobvanEyndhoven we have 0 players from the kingdom #askMetsFarm Think that's our old friend DutchMetsFan?
  8. A group from the Mets development office takes questions via Twitter. As much as they avoid tipping their hands/committing to anything, if you look with a magnifying glass, you might find something.
  9. Are either of Gatsby's nominations for Second Spitter's work?
  10. "Timing play" is a strange description meaning replay can be used to reveal whether a runner scores before the third out. "Record keeping" means replay can be used to clarify the rare time discrepancies come up as to how many balls/strikes/outs/runs there are or whether a substitution was announced.

Protecting the secondbase relay play just seems to be tacitly acknowledging the fear that a just review might demonstrate that 80% of the these out calls have been bogus all along. Be interesting if they go after the phantom tag though. Secondbasemen can't be protected from everything. Cmon...The color barrier and replay are not even remotely related... Certainly baseball changes and I embrance much of it. However, replay feels cumbersome and I just don't think it is needed... I understand. But it just begs for a better argument than "Baseball has done just fine for over 100 years without these changes. If it ain't broke..." For some people, at some times, it has been very broke. Ask Armando Benitez. Ask Armando Galarraga. (Man, lack of replay review has been really hard on guys named Armando.)

Is your name "Solomon"? How do you like them going out of their way to protect the neighborhood play at second. What do you suppose that's about?
  14. Brewers pass on Ike Davis, go for unblushing strikeout machine Mark Reynolds, who will only cost them money and dignity.
  15. OotP, if you are not careful, can take over your life. I'd play it online with folks, but I'm afraid it'd do just that.
  16. With most teams, including the Mets (perhaps especially the Mets), it's almost never about cash on hand, but projected revenue streams and appreciation and depreciation and yadda yadda. Who knows where they're going, but I think they're looking pretty over-leveraged for a 92-win team. Three long-term, big-buckz contracts in the rotation alone is quite a haul.
  17. Go Kev! Kiss it, ladies!
  18. Or in the cases of Mike Hampton and Barry Zito, year one.
  19. Maybe. but not many pitchers have been.
  20. My "1" key was sticky today.
  21. Seven-year extension, $2[u:r8lppei8]1[/u:r8lppei8]5 million. Escape clause after five.
  22. So, who's got the skinny on Robert Whalen? Chris Flexen?
  23. Robin Harris had this great routine about nod being a big enough celebrity to land Lakers tickets, so he became a fan of the Clippers, and they let him sit on the team bench. Eventually they said "what the hell?" and put him in a game. Next September, go for the bench.
  24. Returns to the organization as Savannah Sand Gnats hitting coach. Dude sure knew how to pack a house: Are these Metfairy shots?
  25. In a foreshadowing of standard late nineties themes, Clint Eastwood is an assassin who wants out of the game, but the game won't let him go. Clint Eastwood directs. And in his direction, he directs women to throw themselves at him. By the bar, on the side of mountains, deep in the desert, or on the roof of a parking garage. Throw yourselves, ladies, throw. And it is on the side of the mountain where his showdown confrontation is to take place.
