  1. Now score him.
  2. Good Ron Hodges post.
  3. Kerfeld also gets bonus points for a mid-career name change from "Charlie" to "Charley." Did he not spell it right on his original contract?
  4. Two things I might well have included. Points for doofy nicknames and tricked-out trucks.
  5. Close your eyes. Think of a lunkhead reliever. From Hrbosky onward, the tradition flourishes. Embarrassingly so, perhaps, but flourish it does. Now... open your eyes. (Amazingly you've read this far with your eyes closed.) Rate your reliever by taking the traits in column one and awarding him the value in column two if the shoe fits. 6. But the skin tone on the miss at 2:00 --- that's totally real. Allyson Satin, definitely not part of Shayla's set, appears to either be part of a sect (Orthodox Jew, Pentecostal, some strain of Mennonite) who covers full legs and full sleeves, or more likely is really conscious of mosquito-borne illnesses.

I thirst for knowledge. I gave it some time for others to speak up. Tell it to the Big Guy. I'm rooting for you.
  8. Shayla Farnsworth The answer is none. None more classy.
  9. Is it just my impression, or is he one of the trademarkiest meathead relievers?
  10. Zvon, you answer checker you, you get to ask the next only-player question. May God have mercy on your soul.
  11. The Pirates, who can do better than Gaby Sanchez at first, went out and re-signed Clint Barmes, though he's currently listed as third on their depth chart behind Jody Mercer and Josh Harrison. Conclusion: the Mets will make a deal with the Pirates for a shortstop. Tie that to a brick and throw it through the window of the old abandoned tire factory. Scribble it in the margins of that copy of Stalag 17 before you return it to the library. Make a meme of it and upload it to Pinterest, because brother, this is what is going to come to pass.
  12. I used to raise eyebrows, but they stink up the house and cost a lot to feed. That said, considering his splits look like thisum: SplitPABAOBPSLGOPSvs. righties145.234.338.323.661vs. lefties104.315.394.467.862 I think for the time being, he has to keep earning every plate apparition he gets. One can certainly do far worse in a bench player, but right now, he's a specialist with a pretty narrow specialty.
  13. Matt Harvey wants to be Derek Jeter. OK? Now, thats all well and good. But you know what? Youve got a long way to go, youve got a lot of pelts to put on the wall before youre Derek Jeter." Matt Harvey wants to be old, injured, rich but empty, and indulged by a bunch of people who know he's hurting their interests and his own, but are afraid to tell him.
  14. Only so much chew a supermodel will put up with. That's my experience, anyhow.
  15. I was on my way out when I asked that question, and I asked it exactly wrong. Only guy to get caught stealing four times in one game. (Because Perry Farrell, as we know, only got caught stealing once. When he was five.)
  16. I don't think that's the plan. But I do think that the notion that the braintrust recognizes Satin's utility can be gleaned from the jettisoning of Turner.
  17. Cirillo, for once in his life, is the man. GuyAL Brewer HitsNL Brewer HitsCirillo472454Loretta176575Burnitz156558Vina177118 Only player in history to [crossout]steal four bases[/crossout] get caught stealing four times in one game?
  18. I read that a day or two ago. Loved how the article doesn't directly indict the guy, but rather leaves you there scratching your head at the incomplete portrait, and in doing so, kind of implicitly indicts Jeff. On the other hand, I've been working on where I point my toe relative to my torso all weekend.
  19. Who is the only player to have achieved at least 250 hits for the American Leagues Milwaukee Brewers and the National Leagues Milwaukee Brewers?
  20. Ralph it is. Ralph, by the way, won the support of exactly 1.1% of the BBWAA electorate his first time on the Baseball Hall of Fame ballot.
  21. Who's the only player to homer in three consecutive All Star Games?
  22. Wives go to Florida all the time.
  23. Howard Megdal wrote: So really, the only way this redounds to the benefit of Mets fans, as opposed to just Fred Wilpon and his partners, is if they have a ton of money sitting around, money they've been dying to spend on the team, but couldn't because of those darn loan covenants. I was really hoping things would redound for me.
  24. Zvon wrote: They don't have to spend 140 mill to pacify me. But they have to be able to afford to be on the north side of a 100million. If they can't, they can't afford the team. It's as simple as that. But it's not really about what they're willing to pay. They have to set salary at a level that will allow the organization to eventually break even, or else they will continue to have trouble paying down their debt, leveraging their other entities. Spending money that they weren't getting back (which they were doing for years but few fans appreciated) with the hope that a championship or two will make up for it was a workable model when they had the fake revenue stream of the Madoff fund, but now they simply have to find a way to break even. Right now, they're betting $90 million is the place to do that. If they have a profitable (or even zero balance) year, I imagine it'll go up then. They just don't own enough of the team right now to play fast and loose. The banks do. Ashie62 wrote: Its' always hard to tell the financial status of privately held companies. Beyond that, can't they just sell a big building or something, no not Citifield lol.. As far as compromising or liquidating their other assets to funnel more money into the Mets, they have done that, and were ridiculed for it. LoL. Ceetar wrote: But it doesn't really matter, because Kong's right, there is 7 sets of books. They've been using one to make it look like they lost 10 million last year, but they likely could've reworked it, factored in SNY money, or assigned something to this account rather than that account and make it look like they had 10 more million they could've spent on the team without hitting a supposed loan-imposed cap. Hiding profits is hard (and dangerous) when you owe money all over town. When one of your creditors is MLB, and your GM was released from his MLB duties to run your shop, it would seem even harder and dangerouser.
  25. Not a few fans do also. The real free agent bust was Appier --- it's just that most of the disappointing returns on that deal came in the person of Vaughn. It used to be that any high-profile guy who left was considered "traded," as in, "I can't believe the Mets traded Strawberry." Really lends discredit to the article, though.
