  1. Yeah, seriously. The ones who will bring the most back in a deal are Conforto, deGrom, and maybe Rosario. What that list is really is the guys who can bring something back, among those he believes folks can stomach losing.
  2. Cheech's two biggest moments as a big leaguer have come in furious comebacks that came up short.
  3. Basically, career offensive achievement didn't happen for the Mets until the eighties. Not a lot of sustained pitching even. When Ed Lynch left the Mets, he was in their all-time top ten for victories.
  4. The T.J. Rivera folk hero status is a bit premature. Not only did he strike out swinging all night, but he came up in the ninth with the tying run two batters behind him in the form of Jay Bruce. By definition, you should be taking there. Even beyond that, Hatcher had walked two with two outs the previous inning and just struck out Conforto with what would have been ball four if Conforto hadn't chased. He was 40 pitches into his night, and just getting Jansen into the game would have been a meaningful achievement, as it would have compromised his availability the rest of the series. So Rivera lined out on the first pitch. He made good contact (the only contact he made all night) and probably feels pretty OK about it, but it was ass-backwards. As for Keith, I'm working with a Jerry Lewis screwball theory that the same sap who threw the switch on his mic early was the guy who messed up in the Mr. Met costume, and is just being cycled from job to job and screwing everything up as he goes. "This is your FINAL final chance! You hear me, Crumley!"
  5. I heard that, but I didn't make out what it was. Keith and Gary came on talking about the Nats and Roark in non-air voices and then the mics went dead after a few lines and I couldn't understand why.
  6. With the two homers, José also leapfrogs John Milner and visits the Bronx for a tie for 14th place all-time in homers. Twelfth is not out of reach this season. 1) Darryl Strawberry: 252 2) David Wright: 242 3) Mike Piazza: 220 4) Howard Johnson: 192 5) Dave Kingman: 154 6) Carlos Beltran: 149 7) Todd Hundley: 124 8) Kevin McReynolds: 122 T9) Lucas Duda: 120 T9) Edgardo Alfonzo: 120 11) Ed Kranepool: 118 12) Carlos Delgado: 104 13) George Foster: 99 T14) José Reyes: 95 T14) Bobby Bonilla: 95 16) John Milner: 94 17) Cleon Jones: 93
  7. Well, they punched back against the best. That's something. They'll beat 'em in the sequel.
  8. Janssen stays in reserve as Nimmo leads off with a hit-hit-hit!

Of course, if you chase high fastballs, you don't even have to worry about what OF defense they're playing. Yeah, but I don't play no doubles until the tying run gets to the plate.
  10. OK, Kershaw for dinner. Jannsen for dessert.
  11. Dodger outfield playing way deep. Helped us out on Céspedes' doink, but hurts us on Wilmer's deep drive.
  12. Surprised we're not bringing in The Blev to face Utley.
  13. Oh, fudd. Fucking rabbitball gives and the rabbitball takes away.
  14. Or shmaybe I'm given him just enough and Terry's giving him a little too much.
  15. I'm not sure Montero has much left. He's sort of posing after his pitches like a kid throwing a frisbee.
  16. Bruce very talky tonight but not getting tossed.
  17. And Kiké F. Hernandez is in #14. ¡Increible!
  18. Good for you getting to first, Joc Pederson, but it's at least a minor scandal seeing a Dodger wear #31. Or #14, for that matter.
  19. Rafael is in grave danger of winning my love.
