Cabralker sure picked a lousy time to hit the DL.

I'm just looking for going 1.000 tonight. OE: Actually I just aim for a scoreless first.

Not for nothing, but there are a lot more teams in a position to sell than to buy in this fiercely uncompetitive season.

Nobody likes a tie, but that's what José Leger's South Atlantic League Northern Division All-Stars came away with, tying their sourthern rivals 3-3 in the Sally League All-Star Game. Merandy Gonzalez got the start and threw a single perfect inning, striking out one. Jordan Humphreys tragically did not appear. (The game was rain shortened.) Reliever Max Kuhns recently joined the Disabled List, so he got to show up and take a bow, but was removed from the roster. Adonis Uceta was a late addition, presumably replacing Kuhns, and pulled off the tricky trick of giving up three hits in an inning, but not allowing a run, striking out three as well. That's living up to your name, Donnie! Secondbaseman Michael Paez played the whole game, going 1-3 with a run scored. Firstsacker Dash Winningham also got the start, going 1-2 with a two-run double. The Fireflies are heroes! Curious to see who gets a mid-season promotion.

"Charleston RiverDogs Apologize After Mercilessly Trolling Tim Tebow." The article ends with some minor trolling of it's own.

Exactly. I've been saying it for years. Games played at the extremes normalize the extremes, make the extremes boring, and perpetuate themselves. If the game is full of sluggers who strike out and hit homers, why worry about defense? Put a 6'4" guy at short. He's only getting three or four chances instead of seven to ten. And then, of course, you have one more guy who strikes out and hits homers. About six times more of this and we might have a game again: [tweet:39qao0er]https://twitter.com/kg_holler/status/876957795173752832[/tweet:39qao0er]

Joel Schumacher has recently openly apologized for Batman Forever, including the nipple pouches. Yeah, it stunk, but I didn't find it particularly worse than the other three movies from that serial.

Shortstop: third homer. Ten-zip. The machine is broken.

Come on! An inside-out homer by the shortstop? I'm calling BS.

Way to make a call!

I feel like Ann Coulter was behind home plate a few minutes ago. Now Peter Fonda or some other super-rich hippy has her seat.

Stick around for a bit. Maybe we can get one of those scoreless firsts.

Sheesh, none of youse truck-reversers want to make a call on a potential consolidation deal.

I didn't mind it. Although I also never saw a runner get flagged for leaving early. And they did and do, alla time.

He was making salary demands and the Expos were rebuilding. Beyond that, maybe they just liked the package. The question! Nobody's answering the question! What? I'm perfectly calm! GET YOUR HANDS OFF OF ME!

That's what the Expos said about Floyd Youmans! I'm telling Brian Sabean what I told John McHale 33 years ago! Take it or leave it!

Two runs in the ninth left the FSL Southern Division All-Stars on the short end of a 5-2 All Star Game. Competing against the league's best, Jhoan Urena took an 0-4 collar. Patrick Mazeika did better, going 1-3 with a walk out of the DH slot. Tyler Bashlor held the Northern Aggressors scoreless in his 2/3 of an inning. He allowed two hits, but struck out two. Wuilmer Becerra came up empty in his lone plate appearance, but secondbaseman J.C. Rodriguez came off the bench and was right in the middle of the ninth-inning rally, going 1-2 wit an RBI and a run scored. Jeff Diehl is still waiting to get off the bench.

What's the Gary Carter package in 2017? Flores, d'Arnaud, Pill, and Nimmo for Buster Posey? That seems a hair or two better than the Carter package. d'Arnaud is probably a little more likely to have a long career than Mike Fitzgerald, and Nimmo is probably still a better prospect than Winningham was. Flores isn't as established as Hubie Brooks was, but I think overall, it's a damn comparable package. Is that a deal you make this offseason with Posey signed for four more years in his 31-34 seasons?

So apparently the New York-Penn League season began last night. I mean, it was supposed to begin, but the Brooklyn/Staten Island opener was rained out. That might be a good thing, as the Mets haven't signed any of their draft choices yet. Is that typical? Starting the short season leagues before having any of the new glory boys under contract to show off? Anyhow, up until yesterday, the Cyclones had a roster of, like five guys for new manager Edgardo Alfonzo to deploy. But a late flurry of transactions brought a bunch of guys up off of the Kingsport and GCL rosters, and demoted a handful of guys from St. Lucie and Columbia, and voila! We have something like a minor league team. But it's only 24 guys (and I'm not sure Woodmansee is actually with them at the current moment—available information is ambiguous) out of the limit of 35, so look for a lot of fluidity in the first two weeks. Apart from high end draftees, we're hoping on possibly seeing a glimpse of top 2016 pick Anthony Kay before the season is out, but I'm not betting on it, considering his TJ surgery was October 3. Also, two José Medinas!! Hey, check it out! They're dressing Edgardo in #13! Unfortunately, they don't afford the same courtesy to Royce Ring, who word #20 and #29 in his Mets days. BOOOO!!!! So has Montero found himself or is he going to turn back into a Mitsubishi the next time he gets a high-leverage spot? This season seems remarkably unfair for pitchers trying to get over a hump, what with even Kershaw on a pace for Blylevian homers-allowed numbers. Mistakes get hit in 2017. They get hit far.
