  1. Now let's open up on this pen.
  2. I'm Paul Sewald and I've laid out a Monterian three scoreless innings, putting my team in a position to strike. Strike, team, strike!
  3. Yeah, that's something. Think he played 18 holes this afternoon or 36?
  4. Moreover, there's a game to win here, and it's gonna take a big ol' hunk of Neil Ramirez to win it. Anthony Young, be with us now.

  6. Yes, Pill, for one. Perspective, man.
  7. Well, Gsellie joins the cool kidz club.
  8. A high people-of-color factor behind home plate. Good to see.
  9. That's not really true. Come on. Perspective.
  10. Finally mentioning him on the broadcast.
  11. Bour was probably too hot to pitch to in that situation, and that wasn't a great 3-2 pitch, but I applaud him for going after the guy. And look, Prado raked one too.
  12. Losses and wins ain't what they seem. I once met a shopkeeper in Long Beach who heard I was a Met fan, and became so animated when telling me how much he hated Aaron Heilman that he had to take me out on the sidewalk where it was safer to throw his hands around and raise his voice as he raved. "He's 10 and 10!! How does THAT help anybody?!" He was beyond explaining the nuances of crediting wins and losses to relievers, and I was frankly afraid to give him the reassuring pat on the shoulder that was my next thought. So I just looked away, squinted at the sky philosophically, thought briefly of Anthony Young, and said, "Wins and losses ain't always what they seem." Rest in peace, Anthony Young.

But I strive daily to be as happy as Alan Arkin is about whatever he's fist-pumping about. (Finally catching and killing a blind Audrey Hepburn? Argo-fucking himself?) Psst ... Adam, man.
  15. Whew! I'm glad somebody finally said it. "Million-Dollar Mermaid," my ass.
  16. I agree that pre-release buzz about a production can unfairly poison reviewers against a film. It can work the other way around, for that matter.

  18. Up 8-0 in the middle of the sixth in Tacoma, Las Vegas loses 9-8 to the Raniers, who scored nine runs in three innings (they didn't even need the bottom of the ninth), off Tyler Pill (who had been pitching shutout ball), Logan Taylor, and Alberto Baldonado. Bad bullpenning. Whatever help the Mets may need doesn't seem to be coming from Vegas.
  19. I'm not sure I ever saw an episode of Bustin' Loose, but seeing those opening credits, I'm certain it's the greatest sitcom ever.
  20. Cut, print, send.
  21. I see a little Mark Melancon in their future.

Or in the minors, frankly. That better be one magic glove he's wearing or he might improve the Mets chances to win. Not that Hechy was much with the stick, but he seemed to do alright against the Mets. Not at all, as it turns out. He's gone .218 / .263 / .286 // .549 in 237 plate appearances. Bring back Adeiny!
  23. I like the glaring subtext, suggesting that Jetes and A-Rod were crap role models. Which they were.

  25. As flaming hot as the Dodgers are, it's particularly sobering to realize they are underperforming their pythagorean projection. The misadventures of the last couple of series dropped the Mets four full slots in the leaguewide standings. FOUR! Four teams passed them! The good news is that the sweep of the Giants has the Mets back within a half game of three of them. Five weeks out from the trading deadline (minus whatever time is lost to the All Star Break) and with two of the league's weaker teams coming up, followed by three games in Washington, the time to get mean is now is now is now.
