Not for nothing, but ... 3 1/3 scoreless with two inherited runners stranded from the Mets' bullpen. Yeah, they used some front-end guys in low-leverage work against a last-place team, but it's something. A Giants series was where the Mets turned it around last year.

Goeddel looks younger than I remember him.

Let's see some Zimmo!

None of these runs mean much if the starting pitcher had another short workday.

Curtis' at-bats are suddenly the ones I don't want to miss. I know!

Can Blach come with us? I like him.

Nice to see Cés turn on a high one. Folks have been beating him upstairs.

Please don't be batting out of order. Enough ridiculousness this season.

The St. Lucie Mets did a nice imitation of the parent club today, falling behind 3-0 to the Charlotte Stone Crabs after one inning, and 5-0 after two. Oh, well, mustn't grumble, as the Brits say. St. Lucie went to the bullpen early, and then went to work. And go to work they did, pounding out 20 hits in what would ultimately end as a 19-7 victory. Pete "The Whole Package" Alonso led the onslaught with a 4-5 afternoon, hitting three doubles and a homer, for a total of 10 bases and five RBIs.

I believe some merry mocker created a parallel thread called "All This Whining is Horrible."

Cheech, I hardly knew ye. Interesting to see him go while Nimmo remains. Obviously, it's the infield that is getting crowded, but Nimmo has only appeared in one game for 2 1/3 innings. No starts! Merandy, along with his unadopted brother Jordan Humphreys, gets promoted from Columbia to St. Lucie. I don't expect he'll ever be back. His first half numbers: 8-1, 1.55 ERA in 69 2/3 innings with 13 walks and 65 strikeouts. That's some baseball.

It was the name* of the thread, unironically. * The actual name might have been "All This Winning Is Horrible," but either way ...

John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Inevitably, 3 nights of watching these games caught up to me and I saw little past Grandy's homer. The d'Arnie homer was my lullaby.

The original concept I remember was an "All this winning is terrible!" when the Mets turned the season around mid-summer 2001, starting with the MOFo picnic. Presumably, the evil that was feared is that the Mets' management would be fooled by this illusory success, and wouldn't tear the team down and go for the offseason makeover that they desperately needed. The irony is that they hung in the race to the end, and management still gave the team a super-aggressive offseason makeover for the ages, and it was disastrous. The true illusion turned out to be the Madoff money that was underwriting that offseason spree.

The fourth film was Batman & Robin, and that was actually the one Joel Schumacher apologized for.

Thanks, Obama!

Could they have analyzed the plate-blocking rule any more? The guy was out by a mile. Nobody was fouled. The catcher fields the ball where he fields it. He doesn't always have time to see if his feet are standing in the baseline. Least controversial thing ever. No legislation required.

I understand Duda stopping at third, but Reyes should've taken second. Meantimes, Duda is one dead duckie.

Yeah the game-looking Chasen Bradford joins Erik Goeddel as emergency bullpenning help. Also notable is the potential that we've seen the last of Tommy Milone, and we've added another former big leaguer to our AAA rotation. He's not only a former Chicago Cub, but also a former Lamigo Money of the Chinese Professional Baseball League. Our options grow thin.
