Whoah!

Yes, they still might. If I had to bet, I'd guess they will.

If they really blew it on pitching all around the board, then that's the argument. They don't want to blow it again.

Reunited and it feels so GOOD!

I'm not certain what it means, but I'm pretty sure the "c" stands for "covfefe."

As the equipment truck arrives, and early arriving players drift into St. Lucie and conduct informal workouts, let's mark the start of spring training with an inspiring tweet from Jay Horwitz. [tweet:4q4xgnp3]https://twitter.com/Jay_HorwitzPR/status/960574936019603457[/tweet:4q4xgnp3]

As a consumer, I care plenty about the justice behind the products and services I buy. And baseball has done everything it can to constrain the opportunities for players to offer their skills elsewhere.

I don't think Eddie Edwards is analogous to David Wright. Wright has long been good at what he does, rather than farcically out of his depth, and he works on the ground. Wright is certainly well aware of his situation as are the doctors advising him, far more than we are. Yeah, he can get hurt. They all can.

And by "earlier in their careers," I'd say, "right at the start of their careers."

Took the loss in his first appearance on a walkoff after coming on in extras. Not an ideal way to make a debut. He didn't give up the walkoff (Edgin did), but it was his baserunner. He then replaced a struggling Rafael Montero in the rotation. Jay Bruce paid the fates back by winning that one with a walkoff hit, long after Pilly was out of the game. The walkoff bug stuck with him, when his season ended with walkoff elbow surgery in late August.

Some other Mets minor league free agent got signed a day or two ago too, but now I can't find him. Decker played last season with the Mets after time in the Red Sox and Brewers systems. He hit well in Bingo, not so much in Las Vegas. Pilly, of course, had been with the Mets since they drafted him in the fourth round way back in 2011. His brother is former MLB firstbaseman Brett Pill. Wow, this thread could sure shatter his confidence some!

Maybe. That's certainly a possibility. The other view is it takes a competitive bidder off the table for Duda and reduces his leverage.

No, the American way is that labor gets to organize. But Duda's agent (The Beverly Hills Sports Council, glad to meet you) is obliged to be working for Duda. And I'm not seeing an end game for him in that scenario.

Seems like the signing happened two weeks ago but I'm just hearing about it now. The Mets are indeed off the Pill as 2017's passenger side airbag, Tyler Pill, has signed a minor league deal with Arizona. Tyler goes west with a an 0-3 record and the sort of walk rate that results in an 0-3 record. Vic Sage wrote: Unless there is real evidence of collusion, any boycott or strike would be awful for the union, since it would basically be an admission that the deal that they willingly negotiated and signed is not a good one. At least in football, when a player under contract holds out, its because his deal is NOT GUARANTEED. Those deals bind one party and not the other; unilateral deals like that are inherently unfair, and the only option that players working under a bad unilateral deal like that have is to hold out. Not so in baseball. Their contracts are guaranteed, and current deals are based on a CBA that the players negotiated and willingly signed. Collusion is easy to say, but harder to prove. And there is plenty of evidence to support an alternate theory: that any competent GM would operate this way under the current CBA's rule. If they don't like how GMs are operating, then they can try to negotiate a better deal the next time. Sure, but that's the fun part. This isn't Tony Clark making a threat that had he'd have to make good on or utterly lose face. This is an agent trying to scare up some action by stirring up shit. Yay! February drama!

The day you hear me gushing over baseball's "marketing synergy!" without irony, punch me in the face, would ya? And maybe Nymr can kick me when I'm down.

I thought I was agreeing with you.

Retrobranding is what we're talking about. Old timey shtick, but with modern-day marketing synergy!

Yes, and they've had Spanish-language broadcasts since 1962, but a minority marketing sideline was easily ignorable for Johnny Budweiser Whiteguy. When Beltran answered that first question in Spanish, it was a new regime that was IN JOHNNY'S FACE. And Johnny didn't forget.

Nymr83 wrote: Hosmer's offer is supposedly from the Padres - they aren't contenders and I honestly thinks its a really bad idea for them. If I were them, I'd say the offer is on the table until Monday and then we're calling Duda/Morrison's agents about 1-2 year deals. Duda would crush it in San Diego. Just my impression based on nothing scientific, of course, but I think he'd be a baseball-mashing demigod there.

Well you are missing out on all the excitement that following each and every action Brodie undertakes can bring you. The cool thing is that if anybody is sitting on an offer of that length, it's Boras client J.D. Martinez. if Boras posts that screed, it's transparently self-serving and nothing more. So Brodie is carrying water for somebody else's client. Nice work, gents.

Edgy MD wrote: Or ask T.C.! Anybody follow that link? T.C. is white and says he has no problem with hispanic players. As a matter of fact, he cites Keith Hernandez as being one of his all-time favorites. “But they not only changed the roster when Omar was here, they also forced everything Spanish down our throats at Shea Satdium (sic).” I have no problem with hispanic players because Keith Hernandez is an all-time favorite is about as rich as it gets.

It would also cost the owners revenue as well as the cities they made deals with.

That's a shot across the bow if ever I saw one. Brodie got Yoenis Céspedes the highest annual salary of any outfielder ever (at least, until next season), got Robinson Cano his $200 million contract, and got Tim Tebow ... a job! Boras Shmoras.
