I'm OK with being willing to get pitchers loose that, in the end, you might not need. I get that pitchers may get grumpy about that and you want to stay within reason and avoid that where you can. But if the alternative is (1) to bring a guy you don't need (or even perhaps want) into the game because you warmed him up, or (2) to not warm a guy up unless you absolutely need him, by which time it may be too late, where's the greater logic in either of those two choices?

I'm guessing talk of the deal probably died with the Frazier signing.

That's awesome. And they don't have to deal off Jerry Blevins to get him back. WE WON THAT TRADE YOU SAVAGE NATIONALS! Pretty sad news for Patrick Biondi and Champ Stuart, both of whom are fine centerfielders but are struggling to hit their way out of AA.

I couldn't find a picture of Brewers reserve shortstop Mylar Balloon.

Dyson, Jay, Jaso, Rasmus... if we aren't going to pass along the Frazier savings to SP acquisition, why make do with den Dekkers as our bench stalwarts? You got all up in me arse when I nominated Jon Jay. I'm glad to see you've come around.

That's what I hear about him!

I think a fair, well funded study of the video would scientifically establish that Mookie beats the play to the bag every time. I don't know what happens next, but the inning continues.

Note that the order guys appear in their groups above is based more or less on how productive their 2017 season was (or their 2016, if they missed 2017), and therefore on how they rank in the group this season. So when you see the Vegas outfielders listed: [list:ie7f4tql]Zach Borenstein* Kevin Kaczmarski* Jayce Boyd Kevin Taylor* John Mora*[/list:u:ie7f4tql] It means to suggest that Borenstein is in the best position to go up, and Mora in the most vulnerable position to get overcome from below. Inaccuracies, however, will abound.

I'm telling you, a 16-player roster would have made for a far better game. Even expanding now from 25 to 26 players would hurt the game dramatically.

Yeah, it's not like Dominic Smith's newer, flatter tummy has won us any games yet, but I won't be swayed in the meantime from celebrating that solar plexus and rooting for it.

The selling off of the contract of our fourth-string shortstop has already paid for itself in the signing of three amateurs, two joining the organization from Venezuela and one from the Dominican Republic. Mazzilli may have hit AAA August 5, 2016, but he was back in Bingo by August 20. April 20, 2017, as the 51s had to restock the injured Mets infield, he returned to Vegas. TIME TO STICK, L.J.! But no, he was back a few weeks later, May 13. And that was it for his Vegas trips in 2017. A total of 16 games. You'd like to see the window open for a Vegas assignment at the start of 2017, or at least first in line for a callup, but no, even with Matt Reynolds gone, L.J. is no more than third on the Bingo infield depth chart. He played a lot of outfield last season, so may that'll help him out of the log jam this season, but he's running out of time. The good news is that he may get a lot of time to get to know Tim Tebow this season.

Guys playing outside their usual assignments always makes a game fun and interesting and memorable, with the potential for unexpected heroism or expected disaster riding on every pitch. Reyes in center, Carter at third, d'Arnaud at second, old Rusty in the outfield, Hundley in the outfield. Emergency catchers! Fat guys batting leadoff! Relief pitchers at the plate! Defensive tackles running with the football! Seven and a half foot centers chucking up a three! Soccer goalltenders taking a turn in a penalty kick shootout! Likely disaster, but possible heroism! Brace yourself for fun!

It was the end of Spring (3/30) when the Nats grabbed a den Dekker-type back in 2015. They sent the Mets a Jerry Blevins-type for him. That worked out pretty well.

He played center for an inning or two in a game in mid-May, but didn't get any chances. Then he didn't appear out there again until a stint in left in late August. First ball hit in his direction was a liner over his head, and he charged in, and it went for multiple bases. It was clear he hadn't worked out in the outfield since the Spring, and Terry got him out of there an inning or two later before he embarrassed himself further and that was it for the outfield. What was also interesting about Reyes' season was the way it divided neatly into thirds. When the season opened, it having become clear that Wright wouldn't be returning any time soon, he was the regular-ish third baseman. in the middle, with Asdrubal Cabrera hurt, Reyes became the regular-ish shortstop. And in the last third of the season, with Amed Rosario called up, Reyes beame the regular-ish second baseman. It divided almost perfectly, with him switching initially as May turned to June, and again as July turned to August.

I'm just damn tired of seeing L.J. Mazzilli stuck at AA. My goal is to live long enough to see him in a Met uniform, hopefully in his dad's old pants. I have a weird mental block where I keep being surprised that Mazzilli isn't a switch-hitter like his dad, and that J.J. Franco isn't a lefty, as if handedness was in any way genetic. And even though I laugh at myself and realize how stupid that is, and that Franco is a middle infielder, so of course he isn't a lefty, when I read that the Fireflies ran out of pitchers once or twice and called for J.J. out of the pen like his old man, part of me still thought, "Well, surely, he pitches lefty."

That's what they've had all winter, man. They started the offseason with three once they removed Taijeron from the 40. They're playing fast and loose. If Reyes actually gets it down this year (they avoided using him there last year, and when they finally did, he was terrible), they will need him. If he doesn't, they may get caught with their pants down once or twice.

Do you want to see where your favorite Met prospects are looking to spend their summers? Sure you do! Why it's a topic at breakfast tables and water coolers across our proud land. Well, below, check out the highly un-scientific projection, just arrived from Stockholm this morning, prepared by Drs. Jarred and Johanssen from the Stockholm Institute. Keep in mind a few things. 1) Chaos reigns supreme, and more so the further down the line you get. If the good doctors have 23 of 25 Mets correctly named, and I don't see why that shouldn't be so, that means they probably have 21 of 25 Las Vegas 51s correct, and you see how that shakes things up down in the low minors. 2) It's a snapshot. As everybody is healthy, and bodies haven't started dropping, and nobody has played themselves into oblivion, some of these guys are parked a level below where they are likely to debut. Some pitchers are perhaps two levels below. But pitchers get hurt. 3) Prospects are marked in boldfaced red according to their top-25 rankings by Amazin' Avenue. The 25 guys who got honorable mentions are noted in boldfaced black HM. Guys who were (a) ranked last year, ( graduated from prospect status, and © nonetheless are projected to return to the minors at the start of this season are noted in boldfaced orange. 4) The short season leagues likely won't look like this at all. As 10 new guys from the 2018 draft will be with the Brooklyns, 10 with the Kingsport squadron, and 10 laboring for a crowd of two dozen in the Gulf Coast League. 5) Players with colored names are in the system (or apparently so) but not active. =#FF0000]Red = Likely to open season on DL or rehab assignment =#0000FF]Blue = Possibly retired, but hasn’t been reported as such =#8000BF]Purple = Under suspension or banishment =#00BF00]Green = Not hurt but on Inactive or Restricted List So go find your favorite dudes! As per ancient coding rituals, * denotes a lefthanded pitcher or batter, and # denotes a switch-hitter. Welcome to my management team. Good thinking. 11: If you cap your invite list at (say) 150, with each camper that gets signed, you invite a new one to take his place. So you retain your 150-man camp roster (and four squadrons) throughout the spring, and can even keep workouts going two months into the season, as saps try and get minor league deals, waiting for that one injury that leads to a phone call. 12: Also, every time a camper gets signed, a bell or a trumpet fanfare resounds around the facility, keeping guys locked in to the goal at a pavlovian level.

I'm pretty sure that's Anthony Sleestak.

I think, unlike "Cash," the value of "Cash Considerations" is not necessarily fixed, but based on circumstances as agreed to. Perhaps you get more if the guy makes the MLB roster or less if he is released before the end of spring. Here's a legalish definition. Consideration is a concept of legal value in contract law. It is a promised action, or omission of action, that the promisee did not already have a pre-existing duty to abide by. It can take the form of money, physical objects, services, or a forbearance of action. Both parties to a contract must pass consideration to the other party for there to be a valid contract. Maybe it's all tied up in the Syracuse purchase. We'll give you Reynolds and you let us sell hats at NBT Bank Stadium.

Cabrera plays hurt, man.

Unsigned Player Camp is something I conceptualized years ago, but let DIE like all my other fabulous wealth-enhancing careers. Get a lease on the cheap for some classic-but-abandoned facility (Dodgertown in Vero Beach? Crescent Lake Park in St. Pete?), invite the 100 to 150 most experienced unsigned guys still looking for work, monetize it by charging the players a modest-but-not-insubstantial-fee, possibly to be paid if and when they sign, get some money as well from MLB, staff it with out-of-work coaches and trainers (everybody needs to showcase their work), cultivate a cheesey-but-perverse touristy atmosphere around the facility, with low-end carnival attractions, like haunted houses and costumed characters, that the players find initially charming but ultimately bush league, motivating them to play hard and sign with the first team that comes calling, divide the players into four squads that scrimmage against one another or go out and battle against the MLB teams that aren't signing them, I forget what eight was for, broadcast the games (to who, I dunno, but it's 2018 and somebody is watching everything) with broadcasters and camera crews that are also out of work and looking to showcase their talents, when some of these players go on to have wonderful careers despite that embarrassing no-contract spring way back when, and they are inducted into the Hall of Fame, and their memorabilia prices shoot through the roof, who will have the rarest pieces of all? I will, because I will have hung onto the Vero Beach Mercenaries jersey he wore for four games way back when. $$KA-CHING$$

Entered the big leagues in style, joining the Mets in the post-season dugout by carrying a wounded Ruben Tejada on his back. [fimg=350:2w6maf6t]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CRKjv8wWcAA9W84.jpg[/fimg:2w6maf6t] He came distressingly close to becoming the first player in a century to make his big league debut in the World Series, ultimately not only failing to appear, but looking on in disappointment as Raul Mondesi, Jr. did it instead.
