Sheesh, you fatalists. Come on, geese! Carlos Baerga, 2005 National, didn't haunt us. Alex Cora, 2011 National, didn't haunt us. Anderson Hernandez, 2008–2009 National, didn't haunt us. And he eventually came back to the Mets and didn't haunt the Nats, either. Yeah, there's Murphy. And that's real. But a subset of one among four ain't much of a track record.

He may never do it again, but a healthy Juan Lagares has demonstrated that he can provide 3.5 wins with defense alone. That ain't nothing. That said, Lagares vs. Nimmo is a false conflict. The answer, I think we all agree, is Both/And.

Give that man a sandwich.

Prospect Porn 2015, the thread that made Harvey fat.

One thing about trying to be more walky than sluggy is that it's easier to stay healthy and continue to be a ballhawk as a walky guy. Not that that's worked out so far. On the other hand, the Mets had four sluggy outfielders last season, but that mostly slugged them to fourth place. I'll take any improvement I can get though, and happily note that the idea (if only the idea) of guys adding that uppercut to the swing is not just to garner more homers, but more base hits overall. So go, Juan, go!

Reports are that Eppy called Arrieta (gentille Arrieta) before closing the Darvish deal and see if wanted it (or a similar deal) instead. When Arrieta didn't jump, he signed his own walking papers.

Former MLB pitching star Esteban Loaiza has been apparently arrested with 20 kilos of heroin and cocaine, the sort of quantity that earns you labels like "Kingpin." [tweet:2v8uv86c] [/tweet:2v8uv86c] Esteban pitched 42 1/3 highly ineffective innings for the 2004 Yankees. Not much as a portion of a 14-year career, but enough to earn him a berth in this thread. I think it's probably a good idea to reopen the investigation into the death of his wife.

I was leaning toward Zimmer. It's a baseball reality that you didn't have to a home run hitter to hit home runs if you played at Ebbets Field or Polo Grounds.

When I read shit like this, I wonder at how much of the world lives like this, and how corruptible the human animal is.

Centerfield wrote: So you would guess that as the big names come off the board, unless those big names improbably sign with the Mets, that projection might dip below .500. Probably not, unless a disproportionate chunk of them end up in division.

Centerfield wrote: Question about these formulas. Let's say the Mets went nutty and signed Arrieta and Darvish this weekend. Obviously their projection improves. If that happens, do they take wins away from, say, Washington? Basically, I'm asking if a team's projection can change while standing still, or is each team's projection independent of another team? Yeah, it looks like it's a zero-sum game. Every win for one guy or one team is a loss somewhere else, though they probably don't add up exactly due to rounding.

Yeah, more dramatic to me is the bullishness of Conforto only getting 334 PA and Nimmo getting 111. Unlike the real world, these things tend to average out remarkable events, and so gravitate toward the mean, so I guess I'm unsurprised to see the Mets sitting on the mean.

While a lot of this is educated guesswork, that doesn't seem to be unreasonable. Betting's not my business, but I'd guess it to be a smart play to bet on the healthiest starter out there to miss three starts.

Yeah, as someone with no kids, I'm scared as hell that someone's just going to lock me in the closet when my mind starts going.

From The New York Post comes the unsettling story of Buddy Harrelson suffering from Alzheimer's Disease. [fimg=500]https://thenypost.files.wordpress.com/2018/02/hbh.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&w=1324[/fimg]

Just realizing that the team hasn't announced a coaching staff yet for Kingsport. Hmmm ...

It's been a tough offseason for Reynolds as back in January, his agent got suspended by MLB and fired by the agency for allegedly filming clients in the shower.

I like that port wine stain he sports behind his right eye socket. It speaks of a little no-bullshit character. No #gloryboy he.

Yeah, that's a flak jacket. Looks like Harvey is taking the #metstwitter death threat seriously.

Well, he would be outfielder number five, a role currently being squatted by nobody. Strictly pinch-hitting, double switching, and waiting for an injury. If by some chance everybody's healthy when Conforto returns, he can go back to the Continental Congress.

Todd Frazier and Todd Zeile both played third. Both played for the Mets. Both played for the Yankees. Both, also, have made pretty good lives out of the name Todd. Most importantly, they both married gymnasts. Frazier joined the balance beam club back in 2012, wedding his petite longtime girlfriend, fellow Scarlet Knight Jackie Verdon. The family has grown to four and they continue to make their home in Todd's boyhood home of Tom's River, New Jersey.
