  1. Traffic and weather on the eights! No more Sean Hannity dates! I think this is the worst and best legacy of the Sandy Alderson era — the struggling franchise sliding into less-desirable relationships post 2010 (going from Buff to Vegas, almost losing Binghamton, losing their GCL team briefly, losing WFAN) and rebuilding that infrastructure and equity piece by piece.
  2. The sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll parts of the memoir are pretty embarrassing.
  3. Get the admissions gate open and we might!! I think I'm going to need a presidential indictment to salvage my day.
  4. That run-scoring orgy can begin any time now.
  5. NATIONAL LEAGUE POSITION-PLAYER ROOKIES RANKED BY fWAR T1) Harrison Bader, Cardinals: 2.6 (104 G) T1) Juan Soto, Nationals: 2.6 (82 G) T1) Ronald Acuna, Braves: 2.6 (75 G) 4) Brian Anderson, Marlins: 2.1 (127 G) 5) Jorge Alfaro, Phillies: 1.4 (92 G) 6) Christian Villanueva, Padres: 1.3 (110 G) 7) David Bote, Cubs: 1.1 (41 G) T8) Jeff McNeil, Mets: 0.9 (28 G) T8) Jesse Winker, Reds: 0.9 (89 G) 10) Tyler O'Neill, Cardinals: 0.7 (32 G) Counting pitchers, he'd be 19th. He may have come up too late to make a full splash in the JR RoY race, but he has a damn good chance to get that Topps All-Rookie Team trophy on his card next year. And that trophy is forever!
  6. Benjamin Grimm wrote: dgwphotography wrote: It's impossible to fill both slots. The first player is younger than you, and the second player is older than you That's quite true! Well, he could work out sort of if you go with Miguel Tejada or somebody like that, who retired with a different birthday than he came into the league with.
  7. I take it back. Cobb was the second oldest to appear that year, but the oldest, Jack Quinn, played his last game on July 7, while Cobb lasted until September. So there you have it. The Georgia Peach was both the youngest and oldest guy in big league baseball at different times. Now we just have to find a 131-year-old born a few days after him.
  8. Rusty Staub debuted young and retired old, but he was never the youngest (he was fifth) or oldest (he was fourth). Ty Cobb was the youngest when he debuted in 1905, and the second-oldest when he retired in 1928. Almost.
  9. Passed Cincy again last night. Also pulled within five games of San Francisco. Win today and it's middle class, here we come.
  10. deGrom and Wheeler and Syndergaard are helping take the edge off a little bit, too.
  11. I'm capped by Miguel Garcia and Jamie Moyer. But I'm not really interested in my endcaps who were MLB players, I'm more interested in who the first Met who was younger than me and the last Met who was older than me. I never wanted to be merely a big-league player. I wanted to be a Met. I'm almost certain the answer to those are Gregg Jefferies and Julio Franco.
  12. All three pitchers scoreless through two. SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE!!
  13. Reports leaking today that some team or another has claimed Harvey on waivers. Billy Hamilton also.
  14. Santana exited Monday's game after getting hit by a pitch in his second trip to the plate. He's got real helium. I've seen him ranked between #9 and #18 on Mets prospect lists recently, while rarely cracking the top 50 going into the season. Hopefully it's just a day-to-day thing. He hasn't been DL'd.
  15. batmagadanleadoff wrote: deGrom passed Kershaw, who dropped from 4th to 6th. And Kershaw was #1 for like 2 1/2 years. There are a lot of guys tied at 227 (including José Fernandez!), but a handful of guys ranked even lower than that. I'd still like to have given Lugo another chance to show his merits as a starter this season.
  16. This is like the fifth straight series where a sweep was within reach. The last game in which the other team beat them clearly without the Mets helping was the 6-1 loss to Cincinnati.
  17. WtF is Austin Slater? Is he from Saved by the Bell?
  18. In Bill James Starting Pitcher Rankings, Since the Start of the Season, Jacob deGrom has climbed from the 13th-ranked starting pitcher to the fifth. Noah Syndergaard has fallen from the 62nd-ranked starting pitcher to the 64th (which will change tomorrow morning). Zack Wheeler has climbed from the 182nd-ranked starting pitcher to the 80th. Matt Harvey has climbed (!) from the 182nd-ranked starting pitcher (tied with Wheelie) to the 119th. Stephen Matz has climbed (also !) from the 174th-ranked starting pitcher to the 125th. Jason Vargas has fallen from the 100th-ranked starting pitcher to the 147th. Corey Oswald has climbed from an unranked starting pitcher to the 176th. Vance Worley has fallen from the 182nd-ranked starting pitcher to the 227th. A.J. Griffin has fallen from the 142nd-ranked starting pitcher to the 227th (tied withe Worley). Chris Flexen has fallen from the 182nd-ranked starting pitcher (tie) to the 227th (tied again). Robert Gsellman has fallen from the 151st-ranked starting pitcher (tie) to the 227th (tied again). Jerry Blevins (remember his start) has climbed from an unranked starting pitcher (tie) to the 227th (such a logjam). Drew Gagnon has climbed from an unranked starting pitcher (tie) to the 227th Seth Lugo has fallen from the 131st-ranked starting pitcher (tie) to the 227th. Rafael Montero has fallen from the 182nd-ranked starting pitcher (tie) to the 227th. P.J. Conlon has fallen from the 137th-ranked starting pitcher (tie) to the 227th. Cody Martin has fallen from the 137th-ranked starting pitcher (tie) to the 227th.
  19. Reinheimer slated to become the 127th shortstop in Mets history. Interesting, considering the team's revolving door this season, but he'll become only the third Mets shortstop of 2018, following Rosario and Reyes, the two most doggedly healthy Mets.
  20. Like Jeter would've gotten to that anyhow.
  21. Rehab updates: Wright: 1-4, single RBI with St. Lucie, 0 SO. Seven innings in the field, no chances. Brucie: 3-4, 2B, RS, 0 SO, 2 putouts in nine innings on the field. Rivera, Swarzak, et al.: Chillin'.
  22. Wait a minute ... isn't Chief Wahoo gone after this season?
  23. Five homers last night for Vegas in their 13-6 victory over Salt Lake: Bryce Brentz (15), Patrick Kivlehan (16), Matt den Dekker (13), Luis Guillorme (3), and Peter Alonso (16). Alonso now had 31 homers and 108 RBI across AA and AAA. The Las Vegas tragic number nonetheless fell to 1 as the first-place El Paso Chihuahuas ran their winning streak to 7 games, looking to clinch their division running away.
  24. Mets spent the day in Canada in 2018.
  25. Oh, he's been visited in our FSL thread. If he was at AA with that start, he might have gotten cut loose. Guys don't seem to get released as frequently at St. Loo. Very encouraging turnaround that's come in the midst of a difficult second half for the FSL Mets.
