Edgy MD

When Rosario scored from first on the double in the first, he seemed to be grinding a little. He was still fast as hell, but his wheels didn't seem to be in alignment. He may be dealing with something.

I have this notion, that someday soon, perhaps next spring, Rosiario will have grown into that gangly body of his and be the dervish that prospect watchers thought he could be. But these days, he too often continues to look like a clumsy marionette out there, operated by an overexcited Von Trapp child. Especially when he's going back into the outfield.

Ronnie: I don't know why, but the whole league this year is having trouble hitting lefties. Edgy: Not when the lefties are Vargas and Matz, they aren't.

How does Ivan Rodriguez sire a similar-bodied son and he doesn't become a catcher. That guy had the catcheriest frame ever.

Josh and Howie were expressing certainty that Frazier would get the night off today, but they didn't want to sit him agin' the lefty. Meanwhile, the Mets unveil their first all-righthanded starting outfield in forever.

He's the incumbent, so he's got to be at the top of next year's depth chart, at least as it's penciled in on August 20. But with Smith, Alonso, Wright, and Bruce all pushing away at the corner infield spots, one of which Wilmer Flores has finally settled into and the other occupied by the highly paid Todd Frazier, something's got to give, perhaps via a trade. Maybe Wilmer becomes McNeil's platoon partner and super sub again. Maybe the Mets should stop signing former Reds sluggers.

Shortly after You've Gotta Have Wa, Robert Whiting ended up co-writing Warren Cromartie's memoir.

He sat there alone, watching on the television as Max Scherzer clung to a one-run lead through seven gutsy innings. He watched as Koda Glover hung on through an adventurous eighth. He watched Ryan Zimmerman find redemption against Brandon Kintzler when he drove home insurance runs in the eighth. Then he watched Ryan Madson surrender a walk-off grand slam. Welcome to deGrom's world, man. Just exhibit #1,000 in the case of "Don't get too caught up in building your bullpen." Get a bunch of good arms; try not to get to committed to them financially, allowing yourself to swap guys in and out when necessary; don't coddle the late inning guys and treat them as a class apart; don't lift guys who are pitching well. Bullpens for Dummies, man.

Yes, they did the team handshakes. When in Rome ... Look at all the stuff in Bones' pockets.

One probably shouldn't count Nola out either. The cool thing is, with all three pitchers in the same division, and one rough start possibly the difference maker in the race, their teammates may end up deciding this. The Mets play the Phils six more times and the Nats seven more times. The Nats and Phils lock up nine more times, starting tomorrow.

Go, Mets! Won the long series, and had a sweep close to within reach.

Contributions from both D. Smiths in one game.

And he racks up an RBI double!!

A Dom Smith sighting!

Here comes the hook. Conforto doing an uncomfortable amount of fielding this inning.

He might end up the all-time MLB wins leader for Williamsport. ¡¡Viva El Niño!!

Cro managed an all-Japanese, all-traveling team in the indy, US-based Golden Baseball League.

Mets have six hits in 10 trips to the plate, and three strikeouts. Apart from catching Rosario stealing, the Phils aren't being asked to make a whole lot of outs in the field.

Sorry, I've been out of town a few days. But if you miss a Rhame transaction, that's OK. In few days, he'll be right back where he was. I think his Player's Weekend name should be "Yo-Yo." But of course, it won't because he'll be called this week and then shipped out right again just before Players Weekend begins. I just love the great form everybody shows. US commercials featuring baseball always seem to feature actors who've never touched a bat before directed by somebody who's never seen a game. There's a Nathan's ad out there that I weep over that plays during the Mets' MLB.TV broadcasts.

I spent about two weeks in college once, reverse engineering, trying to figure out the formula for quarterback ratings. Got nothing. Interesting Trivia: Blasphemers of Jake have won more Grammys than The Beatles.

The only world I want to live in. [youtube:2s3t33md]OpWUEj5RoGc[/youtube:2s3t33md]
