  1. Only four days off between May and June. They play 20 straight days at one point, followed by a day off, followed by eight straight days, followed by a day off, followed by 18 straight. That's 46 games in 48 days. Mickey should use about 35 pitchers. Then they get every Monday off in July. Weird.
  2. By the way, that's Val Pascucci that's the Binghamton batting coach.
  3. I was betting on the Mets. Can you imagine Harper's leverage without even the draft pick compensation to hold him back?
  4. Hunter Pence liked Fifty Shades Freed!
  5. Get Lehrer to play shortstop!
  6. Dear heavens, Conforto. When you go the other way like that, the whole universe smiles on you.
  7. Freeman is totally stealing PotG honors from Corey.
  8. A Reyes triple might help that.
  9. Oh, shit. They still need to win this.
  10. And we're tied up! And that restless goofball in the khaki shirt doing calisthenics four rows behind home plate is hilarious.
  11. And hey, Hunter Penis! Get dressed, you dope!
  12. This inning is like the start of a sentence. The Mets need to capitalize.
  13. Nice to see some Ichiro hitting from McNeil. Matz has already left some poo in the bed.
  14. Not pictured: My brother is eight rows behind home plate.
  15. Devil Anse Hatfield? SIGN DEVIL ANSE HATFIELD NOW!!!!
  16. Met Docs 1. Gooden 2. Edwards 3. Medich 4. k Ellis
  17. Trying to sneak posts in between tasks at work. What can I say? And now a word from our sponsor: Rheinland Beer.
  18. I never watch these things. I think I saw one on TV once. The one with the Kuala Lumpur Tower. But we saw this in a drive-in last week, and I called all the plot turns. Bleh.
  19. Yeah, I'm not sure either. I'm just cornsnoggled by the reality that we got beat by giving up a pair of shit popups over 13 innings.
  20. A relentless Binghamton Mets team scored in each of the last three innings, but their furious rally against the Altoona Curve came up short in the ninth, as Joey Terdaslovich, who had homered earlier in the game, flew out with the bases loaded. Knuckleballer Mickey Jannis went six scoreless for the win his last time out. Tricky Mickey has been red hot, going 27 1/3 innings over his last four starts, giving up just two runs. Moreover, Mickey has tied the record — and will break it the next time he takes the mound — for the most starts in Binghamton franchise history, with 66. A pair of authentic Mets skyline sox go to whoever guesses whose record Jannis just tied. It’s a toughie. Also rocking with classic Binghamton spirit in recent weeks has been newcomer Will Toffey. The Toffer had been a real disappointment in High-A for the Athletics this year, but the Mets still liked him, and not only jumped at the chance to grab him in the Jeurys Familia trade, but immediately promoted him to AA, and boy has that Pony responded, going .274 / .425 / .452 // .877 over 29 games, compared to his .244 / .357 / .384 // .741 as an Oakland prospect. That’s a 136-point difference. And yeah, a lot of that his marvelous .151 was rate, but he’s also racked up 11 extra-base hits in his 29 Bingoriffic games, compared to 13 in 48 games with Sockton in the California League. You’ve already seen Daniel Zamora in the big league (and Little League) parks, but you may be wondering how he got called up all the way from AA with just a 3.48 ERA. Well, that’s a good question, but consider that the bulk of his runs allowed (7 of 20) came in the team’s lost July. So far in August, DZ has given up just 1 run in 5 2/3 innings, walking one and striking out 8. That may not scream callus, but you can imagine why Mickey would want to get a look at him before the chaos of next spring ensues. The loss leaves the Pony Show at 60-66 and a precarious 10 1/2 games out with their elimination number down to seven. They’ve certainly shown signs of strength in recent weeks, but the middle third of the season was a real struggle as they took a while to adjust to the promotions of Jeff McNeil and Pete Alonso, along with the season-ending injury to Tim Tebow. The division may seem out of reach, but right now they sit a half game behind the third-place Reading Phillies, and who doesn’t want to beat THEM?! The RP’s are just underway right now, with the bump mounted by Harol Gonzalez, a strong pitcher in the A’s but who hasn’t yet found his feet in AA. 21. Erin Fish with the scoop: [tweet:3kj4g9z9] [/tweet:3kj4g9z9]
  22. Well, it wasn't about experience, so much as it was about Holland throwing withe his left hand. Recall that Conforto and McNeil were out of the lineup also. That said, I still advocate for Smith at first and Flores in left if they are going to be in the lineup at the same time. It may not have changed yesterday's outcome, but it's a better way to get a look for the future. Flores has not only established that he can play first, but that he's the best option there right now. But going forward, he's going to be looking for at-bats around the diamond again, so he might as well get familiar with left. And if they want a further look at Smith, it should be at the position he's going to be competing for going forward. As for that pop-up, with a traditional alignment, the shortstop would have been camped under it clipping his nails by the time it came down.
