Man, Contreras just bought it.

I could be wrong, but I seem to recall a period of Philadelphia 76er history when they played a few home games in Syracuse to honor their forebears. Am I making this up? I'm making it up, aren't I?

God dammit, I should've stepped on Eiland's toes.

Well, none of us saw Eiland's head rolling.

I've been really disturbed by the way Hernandez has been answering the phone of late.

The St. Lucie Mets may have picked just the right time to get hot. After finishing the first half out of the money with a 32-34 record, they opened the second half by sweeping The Lakeland Flying Tigers in three straight, marching to the top of The Florida State League South Division.. Game Two was the joyful result of a walkoff wild pitch, but Games One and Three were decisive victories of 6-1 and 5-1. With two straight shutout appearances, Kyle Wilson has gotten his season back on track, lowering his ERA from 4.79 to 3.68 over his last three starts. He's been keeping the ball in the park also — after giving up three homers in April, he's only allowed one in eight starts since. Ezequiel Zabaleta is a name that represents a lot of value in a game of Scrabble, and still more value in a minor league bullpen. The relieving weapon has gone his last 10 2/3 innings — spanning 5+ appearances, without allowing the run. His powers are increasing as the season advances also. In his last four innings, he's allowed no hits. Zeke the Freak has struck out 13 in 13 innings with Florida, continuing the same strikeout-per-inning pace he established earlier this season with Columbia, but his control hasn't been as pinpoint. But when your guy is holding opposing batters to a .146 batting average against, you don't tend to complain a lot. Those looking to complain certainly haven't fixated on firstbaseman Jeremy Vasquez. A throwback firstbaseman with good contact and a good eye from the left side, the Germ has, as yet, only fair power, But he left Lakeland pitchers spinning in their beds, going 5-for-11 in the second-half opening series, with two doubles. His .363 on-base percentage is eighth in the league and climbing. And that's what YOUR St. Lucie Mets are doing: climbing. They visit the Florida Fire Frogs this evening, with Kevin Smith of Dunwoody, Georgia taking the mound. Take it and make it your own, K. AT 8:05 tonight, the Mets visit Wrigley for the first time in 2019, as we pray Walker Locket don't put his finger in a socket. Tyler Chatwood goes for the Cubs. He's a righthander with a beard who has been a fringey starter, going in and out and in and out of MLB rotations since 2011, first with the Angels, then with the Rox, and the last two seasons with the Cubbies. He's been mostly bullpenning this season, however, and this will be only his second start. The Mets are reeling after taking an apple corer right up the butts last night in Atlanta. They need some new beginnings and Chicago is as good a place as any to find them. And so they turn to Robert Lamm and Walter "Walker" Parazaider's thunderous alto sax work with this track from Chicago's first album, Chicago Transit Authority. Sweet trumpet figures from Lee Loughlane on the intro, too.

4th Place Mets. So much for optimism. Tonight's "FU's" go to Matz, Rosario, Mickey, DiSarcina and Brodie. It's like alternative-universe Schaefer points — where instead of beer, they get assaulted by the dildo in Kevin Plawecki's old locker.

flkfsnp!

Woosh. Canó watches strike three right down the pipe and looks at the ump.

Wow. Two powder puff hits in Nogosek's first three batters.

1083 is Stephen Nogosek. Go-go, No-go!

Adeiny makes a great play and Gary calls it giving credit to Rosario. Rosy hasn't made a play close to that all year.

Swingin' at ballz. Swingin' at ballz.

Minter is all over the place here.

Does it have to be in Vonnegut's style?

I could have sworn one of his early hits went: Double Switch, Double Switch, Double Switch is back! Stone cold sober as a matter of fact Double Switch, Double Switch, he's much better than you! He moves like Bruce Lee, 'cuz he's the king of kung fu, OH-OO-OH!

Double Switch wrote: Having seen EJ in person back in the day and having known him since his very first album, I don't plan to see a biopic about him. His music was the background of my life for decades and I'm glad for him he's still standing. Wait a minute. Tell your story.

No, I think that's a great angle. Ryan saved a lot of lives. Ryan and Reg. I'm greenlighting that at Crane Pool Studios.

The two additions are probably smart. Probably the best options. But Zamora was on the Injured List up until quite recently with Syracuse, and Novoselic has only 12 2/3 innings at AAA. Of course, they were 12 2/3 shutout innings, adding to his great season of a 0.57 ERA across 31 2/3 innings between two levels. That's a promotion they've got to make. Gooden's spoken about this with regard to deGrom, saying that as magical as 1985 was, not being able to go out and just do it again led to him hating the game. He had to come to realize despite all his work and skill development, a lot had that he couldn't control had to go right for 1985 to happen, and he had to get back to doing what everybody else in the league was doing, trying to take care of business one game at a time, one batter at a time. deGromio is hoping for a perfect game every time out. That's fine until you give up a run or two, and you still have to get your team deep into the game. You feel like you've already failed, because you have such high expectations of yourself, and you start beating yourself when bad results come, instead of adjusting to adversity. deGrom yielded something like a batting average of .015 with runners in scoring position last season. It felt like that, anyhow. He can pitch his ass off for 100 years and that still might not happen again. He needs to grow his hair, play with his kids — play the flute and dance and sing his song.

Gary asked Ron if the bad ninth ruin all the positive vibes of the game, and Ron said that at the moment, he probably feels like crap, but once the game gets nailed down, everybody shakes hands, and he's standing in front of his locker, he'll be on Cloud Nine. But it was more like Cloud Four.
