Of course. Twinks too. Carew couldn't escape it.

... Expos, Rangers, Royals ... . How many teams had road baby blues back in the Burt Reynolds era? https://media.gettyimages.com/photos/nolan-ryan-of-the-california-angels-poses-for-a-portrait-ryan-played-picture-id50812418?b=1&k=6&m=50812418&s=612x612&w=0&h=WAHp-BA6sBP6r8KmGvOvZqA7Ia62az4wI61Pkb38fVk=> https://i.pinimg.com/originals/57/89/04/57890439fd3cf4a4cc2c8d0bc18f237e.jpg>

How fried is he? Is he all lethargic and bloodshot and craving snacks?

What the judges were looking for was "Who is George Sanders?" Nobody gets the points and kcmets still controls the board. Make your pick, Kase!

McNeil introduces the F-word to SNY viewers.

Sorta like they're beating themselves and the Cards are just in the right place.

That was fast.

I'm kind of surprised the throw went home and not to first.

I'm feeling Wilsonian.

And in comes John Gant — 2011 Mets draftee, sent to the Braves in the Kelly Johnson/Juan Uribe deal.

Hey, bloaded and no out and LaCock at the plate!

Looks like 45 minutes on the mound makes Matz a better hitter.

Further neck pain delays any return for Nimmo. Congratulations are in order for Mike Barwis. Your kill count may be going up, Mike.

There's a kid behind home plate — about nine — doing the old arm-twirly thing.

None of the above. Ploof. Gary suggests Díaz might not be available for the nightcap. Oh.

In the last few weeks, they've tumbled from first place, tumbled behind the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, and tumbled behind the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. Suddenly, they've tumbled all the way to seven games back, losing four games from the pace in the last 10 contests alone, as they've gone 3-7 while the RailRiders have gone the opposite. But it's not all about the tumbling, and it's a full-season schedule, so there's time to make those games up. Last night, for instance, the team opened with a five-run first, and a late run in the eighth provided the difference in a 6-5 win over the Charlotte Knights. Anchoring the rotation in recent weeks has been late-arriver Walker Lockett. Texas Ranger started the season injured and then spent some rehab time with St. Lucie, but has been in consistent mid-season form since arriving in Syracuse, pitching 24 2/3 innings to the tune of a 3.28 ERA. That's all nice and spicy until you see that he has only nine strikeouts in that time. It's a small sample, sure, but it's not like his career numbers are that much better. I don't know if that'll fly in 2019, but the upside of pitching to contact is that it allows you to go deep into games, if you are effective. You get more strikeouts from your bullpen, anyhow, and one bullpenner who has been a spicy jar of salsa has been Ryan O'Rourke. Until he coughed up two runs in yesterday's win, he had been unscored upon in five straight appearances. He's got solid numbers against lefties and has been getting better as the season has progress. But it's the stats with the bats that impress all the cats. And one cool cat that has been a solid all-round offensive competitor has been Rubén Tejada, slashing a .343 / .434 / .500 // .934. Ruben was always a work in progress and though progress was slow and often stalled, it's worth remembering that he had a .360 OBP at just 21. It's also worth remembering that he might've helped one way or another in the 2015 World Series if he hadn't been assaulted by Chase Utley. There's no way to know for sure, but it's worth remembering. And it's worth remembering to head out to MBT Bank Stadium this evening to see the 'Cusers host Gwinnet. The Mets haven't announced a probable starter yet, but the voices in my head tell me it's probably going to to be the AAA debut of Anthony Kay. Be there. The Syracuse Mets will tumble 4 ya. "Yeah, pretty much."

Sheesh.

Benjamin Grimm wrote: Was there a day when the Mets had to finish a suspended game and had their starter for the regularly scheduled game take the mound for the resumption of the previous night's game? I think it may have been Seaver, and he ended up pitching one inning in the suspended game and getting a win, and then getting a second win that day in the "nightcap". Am I remembering correctly? (If only I had access to a database where I could look this kind of stuff up...) Kevin Kobel did this, I believe. 1979-ish. The Mets were cruising to a victory the night before — Pete Falcone was working on a shutout — when the last out was seemingly made. Folks started celebrating, shaking Falcone's hand, and walking off the field, when the second-base ump called his comrades together and let them know that, wait a minute, I had called time. The shortstop or secondbaseman or somebody had asked for time and it was granted before the final pitch was thrown. So everybody was called out on the field to finish up that last out. After three more pitches, somebody finally realized there was no firstbaseman. Ed Kranepool had headed into the clubhouse, jumped into the shower, and was too busy cleaning Little Krane to realize nobody else was around him. I mean, I assume this is what he was doing. I had occasion some years later to ask him where he had gone. He chose to take the focus off himself and turn the question around: "What was the first base umpire doing? What was he thinking? Three pitches and he doesn't realize he's alone out there? You can't blame the first base coach, because he's probably hoping nobody notices we're a fielder short, but that ump was asleep on the job." He even remembered which ump it was. I'm thinking Ed Montague, but that's probably not right. So, realizing the game had grown farcical, and the typical 1979 crowd of a few thousand had dwindled to a few hundred, it was decided to finish the game the next day before the start of the scheduled game. Pete Falcone, being in recovery mode by this time, was unallowed by Joe Torre to finish his shutout. Kobel took the mound, got the last out, and then continued on to start the regular game. Díaz. Is he pitching awfully because I still see him as alien? Or do I still see him as an alien because he's pitching awfully? Whichever it is, the dog won't stop barking.

I'm all about nobody for the ninth except the guy who is pitching well.
