The Mets might have made two outs on the bases this inning if Segura could catch the throws and get the tag down.

Vargas needs to knock Pivetta the fuck out.

Man, Brad Holt. We should make up a team of guys who killed it in Brooklyn and were never heard from again. The Blaedergroen Bunch. Actually, the Blade peaked in the South Atlantic League. Make it the Concepción Cabal.

There's something different about this shot of Casey. He looks level-headed and engaged, rather than enigmatic and inscrutable. He looks like a more gnomish version of Spencer Tracey. It's a side of him that his players all insisted was there, but he didn't like to let the public see. Or maybe he's just not drunk. That said, I voted Willie.

It looks like they went well under slot for all of picks 4 through 10. I don't know how a team swings that, but they all signed. Looks like the highest pick not yet signed is from Round 11 — Louisiana State outfielder Antoine Duplantis, who either found his power stroke his senior season, or the SEC is using Rob Manfred's balls.

Wrong World Series. Do you really expect the intern that put that section together to know the difference between Bob & Johnny Murphy? Or Oakland and Baltimore for that matter? I think we should cut the kid some slack. What if it was the same junior staffer that worked blue as Mr. Met?

As for alienating the fan base, unless that's an actual mission-specific goal, that feeds into the rankings. Fan attrition, defection, and self-immolation can be prevented and/or ameliorated by the insertion of a familiar, more-trusted face — Wright, Alfonso, even Teufel or even Terry. These faces suggest that, despite the rough sailing, there's still a course fixed in place. A beloved somebody with a Mets pennant or championship in his pocket is actually willing to steward this thing for a few weeks? At risk to their rep and historical standing? Maybe this thing isn't totally hopeless. That implied message might sell six or eight tickets.

A 4-1 start had the Cyclones dreaming of the boardwalk and arcade, the pretty girls in their own little worlds, the corner boys all acting like they got the key. But the ‘Clones found themselves pretty keyless also this weekend, taking it on the chin, getting swept by the rival Staten Island Yankees. It was a weird home-and-home-and-home series, with the two teams meeting in Brooklyn Friday night, off to Staten Island for Saturday's game, and then back to the beach for Sunday's matinee. They could have played on Neptune and still come up short, being outscored 26-6 over the weekend. But a win tonight behind special guest pitcher Noah Syndergaard put them back on their winning ways, and with a 5-5 record, they sit but a half game out of first in The New York-Penn League McNamara Division. The best starter out-of the gate was third-year Dominican righthander Malky Mena. After spending 2018 working out the pen, this year, 'Clones manager, Edgardo Alfonzo has made him part of the Brooklyn rotation, and his instincts quickly proved intuitive as The Malkontent dominated a Lowell Spinners team that leads the circuit in virtually every meaningful offensive category. M&M walked none and struck out dive in six inning, allowing only one run to cross. Looking like a diamond in the rough so far has been reliever Andrew Edwards. Andy Edgy, the Mets' 31st-round pick from this month's draft, has thrown five innings so far without giving up a single run. Moreover, he's only given up one hit thus far along with two walks, moving into the closer spot and earning two saves in two tries so far. Swinging the bat like it's earning him Best Western rewards points, ninth-round June pick and South Florida alum Joe Genord has brought his A-game north with him. Slashing .333 / .394 / .556 // .949 through his first 31 trips to the plate, Ocean Avenue Joe has already logged three doubles and a homer. I'm not sure which unit represents the most talent here. I'm keeping an eye on Zach Rheams, because he sounds like a sex criminal, and Guillermo Granadillo, whose name literally means "Little Pomegranate," but I like to think of it as "Little Handgrenade." Yeudy Colón has the grooviest thumbnail portrait, which is not insignificant. It happens all the time. Interim managers are a bargain anyhow.

Alonso really left a Canó-ful of baserunners on this evening.

Related, but varying theories, with varying levels of speculation. All within the realm of possibility. I have to say I'm at least a little surprised that Mickey could redass his way into the doghouse like that. The out-of-control manager is just a dying breed. How many hothead managers have the Mets ever even had? Dallas Green. Maybe Yogi a bit. Casey could go nuts but it was almost always part of his working the game. I realize that Nimmo's absence makes kicking Canó out of the lineup that much harder, but relegating Can-Can to pinch-hitting until further notice would be so sweet that I'd have to brush my teeth.

Phillies get their closer up with none out in the eighth. Clearly Tim Healey has gotten to them.

Ramos batting in front of Rosario is kind of takes a little edge off the latter's speed.

Baseball in 2019 is a war of attrition. Relievers fall like soldiers at Antietam.

Lockett was living on borrowed time. He caught some guys by surprise with his curveball, but it wasn't exactly Lord Charles.

Five innings, three runs for Syndergaard in Brooklyn. On the other hand, no walks and nine strikeouts.

Lockett down to a single digit ERA!

Alonso is no Ike Davis!

That 3-2 cutter to Conforto was the first time tonight I saw old Arrieta show up.

McNeil Clemente.

Smith's homer = also kinda goofy.

Lockett ERA down to 14.54!

What a goofy homer by Rosario.
