    Trea Turner hits the only grounder where it's possible to turn a DP on Trea Turner and we still can't turn it. Wilmer's glove is killing us lately, no matter where you place him.

    What's with all this two-out hitting? I was previously unfamiliar with the concept. 2-out hits on Saturday was not applicable since every time they got runners on with one out they'd hit into a DP

    I was hoping to see Cecchini in for Reyes today -- which, considering Jose has gone: K - Foul Pop - Dribbler, might have been a good idea -- but maybe Terry is thinking about it for one (or more) of the three LHPs we're going to see in the four game series in LA.

    Ronnie lets on that one of the reasons for the Jefferies/McDowell fight was lingering resentment over Roger "doing things" to Gregg's (then unique) personalized bat bag. I suspect I'm not alone in thinking that "doing things" included 'took a shit in'.

    I agree that Smith shouldn't be treated as a lock to out-shine the current incumbent. It's just that with Smith and Rosario as the in-house replacements most likely capable of stepping into a full-time job in the next year, and neither he nor Duda able to play anywhere else on the field, dealing him away would necessitate either the risky move of retaining the 32 y/o oft-injured Duda on a multi-year deal or going in a completely different direction at a time when four or five other positions are also up for grabs. That said, if Smith could say be a piece in an Adam Eaton-like trade such as the Nats pulled off this past winter (with Giolito as the anchor) where he helps net us a leadoff/CF type of guy (Eaton's busted-up knee aside) or some other position where we're weak, I certainly wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger on it. Rosario, Conforto, and Céspedes, for all practical considerations, should be viewed as the only untouchables among position players at this point.

    That would imply you want to be proactive about re-signing the 32 y/o Duda to a _____? year deal. Or that you'd be comfortable with handing the 1B job to Flores

    The papers were the secondary reason but it was specifically Young's column mentioning Nolan Ryan and the wives that made the situation irreparable. There was a chance to still fix things, and then there wasn't.

    Not content to merely go 0-7 w/RiSP, they've managed to make 10 outs in those situations with 3 their GiDPs and have just one ball out of the infield (Flores's Sac Fly).

After the Sac Fly, Dusty challenged Cespedes leaving 3rd too early, considered challenging the slide at the plate, and I think he asked about challenging each of the pitches during the AB which led to the Sac Fly but was told he couldn't.

    Another bad throw to 1st (Reyes) on a routine grounder, only this time with the pitcher (half) running there was enough time to make it not matter.

    Not sure if even the Nats bullpen can blow this one.

    Two runs in, bases loaded, still an out to get, and the Nats haven't hit a ball hard all inning. Met infielders had two chances to put this inning to bed and messed up both times. I mean it certainly wasn't a good inning by Salas, but between bunt singles, end of the bat singles, and weak IF play, it could have been a lot better.

    It's also an ESPN game tonight (in most areas anyway) in addition to SNY & MASN, check your local listings. When you only have seven baserunners in the game, having three of them erased by GiDPs is a bad scoring strategy.
