  1. So there was a classic John Sterling last night on Aaron Judge's 5th inning AB: Deep to left. It is high, it is far, it is GONE!! Aaron Judge has just hit his twenty- ... Wait, he caught that?
  2. “I always want to be here,” Cabrera told The Post after the Mets beat the Marlins, 8-0, on Wednesday night at Marlins Park. “This is a great team. In that moment when I said that, [u:24sftxxa]I wasn’t saying I want to get traded[/u:24sftxxa]. I was just saying it didn’t seem like they had a plan for me. … If they’ve got a plan, they should tell me.” [u:24sftxxa]I wasn’t saying I want to get traded[/u:24sftxxa] -- Uh, yeah, you pretty much were. In fact I think there's a quote with you saying exactly that on film. Not that I specifically mind on that sort of stuff. It's spur of the moment shit and you were upset, I understand that and always suspected that it was a soon to be back-walked comment. But you DID say that you asked your agent to get you outta there so let's not pretend otherwise. http://nypost.com/2017/06/29/asdrubal-cabreras-trade-flip-flop-i-always-want-to-be-here/
  3. Yeah, there's little reason to have a lot of enthusiasm on this. He should be looked at as a possible addition to what we have currently, not as a savior or as a replacement for anyone. As much as we may have liked him over the last couple of years, an 8.10 ERA across 13 starts is not something to be dismissed. Yeah, the hitter-friendly ballpark in Cobb County probably had something to do with it, but that still translates to a 6.10, or maybe 7.10 somewhere else.
  4. Nice inning from the Edge. K's Stanton and induces Yelich into the GiDP On the DP that ended the previous half-inning, not much Bruce could do on that one. But more importantly, there seem to be a lot (as in far too many) of that type of hit off Reyes's bat this year, balls that start out looking like decent line-drives up the middle but wind up without enough oomph behind them to even get out of the infield. Probably a sign that he's getting beat more often than he's used to. #slowbat

Mets have these RH hitting second basemen types coming out of the their butts. Reynolds, Cheech, TJ, Flores -- all decent players. Yeah, although I wouldn't exactly tab Flores as Mr. Fundamentals The rest though would bring a shot of youth and daring onto this team which hasn't had a lot of either recently. The vets on this team don't necessarily take either of those running chances, and if they did they might have been out.
  6. Nice running by Reynolds ... first on the decision to go 2nd to 3rd and then 3rd to home. Neither one was a gimme.
  7. Short bench tonight ... I would have left Zimmo in to face the LHP
  8. Leadoff triples following shaky defensive innings will get you to heaven Matt.
  9. R. Rivera guns out Dee Gordon stealing. Close but he was out. Not sure why Mattingly didn't challenge it anyway. He gets six challenges per game, right?
  10. bmfc1 wrote: The Phillies have an off-day while the Mets play tonight in Miami. Does the CBA fix such inequities? Nah, there are always going to be those situations. It's tough enough to make the schedule without then having to synch-up mutual off days. The only thing I know that will kick in next year is a requirement that get-away games be day games if the team getting out of town has to cross more than one time zone.
  11. That coming-across-the-bag DP just turned was exactly the type that Murphy failed to turn (he never got it out of his glove) which continued the Cubs 9th inning which led to them scoring twice and stealing the game earlier today.
  12. Catcher Tomas Nido and Amed Rosario will be your Mets representing the World squad in the 'Futures Game' during the ASB
  13. I remember a mock ad for a Terrance Trent Barbie doll -- Wishing Well sold separately.
  14. Bruce has run more in these three innings than I have in the last three years.
  15. Really pounding the crap out of the ball this inning, ain't we? ... two IF hits, followed by a bloop, and now a solid RBI hit
  16. THIS IS NOT WHY WE INVENTED REPLAY!!!! # toofuckinglong #toofuckingclose
  17. I was watching part of that game when Turner got HBP'd. It didn't look as bad as Conforto's but, as I've said before, I don't understand how 90 mph pitches don't break bones Every. Single. Time., and mostly I think the fact that one pitch does while another one doesn't is mostly just a matter of luck.
  18. Last night was Bart's first outing after three weeks on the DL. But at the same time he wasn't any better prior to going out so it's not like you can simply chalk it up to rust. I mean, he made 13 starts this season and two were good, his first and third starts of the season (#1 was against us back on April 5) iow, I don't know what a minor league 'rehab' session is going to do for him except make him a couple weeks older still. And since he'd be signed for the ML minimum a major or minor league contract is of little difference. If there's room for him on the 40 then I think you do this. The worst that can happen is that it fails.
  19. It's a mystery as to why he went downhill so quickly ... but then I guess one could say it's as big a mystery as to how he was as good as he was in his early '40s while throwing in the upper '80s (or was it the other way around?) The bottom line is that Atlanta was looking for short-term options while their young pitching developed and Bartolo went downhill quicker than expected at the same time the lefty Sean Newcomb who we saw once so far (4 starts, 1.48 ERA, 1.07 WHIP) arrived ahead of schedule so this move for the Braves was more a question of when than if. The Mets are certainly going to wait until he clears waivers before striking even if they're inclined to, although that of course opens him up to other teams looking for a patch as well. I'd be tempted to bring him on because you can use him in a variety of roles -- start, short, middle, long -- and hope for the best, cuz right now they're about two injuries away from giving ME a call and my shoulder is killing me these days.
  20. What, too soon?
  21. Murphy fails to turn a game-ending DP ... then three straight hits follow and the Cubs take the lead with 3 in top 9 as the Nats blow a multi-run late game lead AGAIN!! 5-4 CHI, now in bottom 9
  22. If she had slipped out of his grasp would Tumpane have been charged with a blown save?
  23. Nymr83 wrote: I think the thought is more that he plays "well" enough to continue selling jerseys and boosting attendance well into next spring. That's certainly part of it and although I think the "windfall" that the Mets are making off this is probably being exaggerated. The Wilpons DO own the PSL affiliate but they don't own either Columbia or Binghamton so the direct dollars into NYM profits is limited, plus much of that money is sent into the general fund so the Mets only see 1/30 of it anyway. And I don't think either the Mets or Tebow have committed to a second season of this. He may not want to continue beyond this year and even if he does it's questionable whether the Mets would give him the spot to do it in. The opposing teams in the (SEC-centric) Sally League and now in the FSL are probably making as much out of this as the Mets are. TT is coming to town ... get your tickets NOW!!!!!
  24. The thing about Tebow is that obviously his learning curve/timetable has to be sped up seeing as he's about 7-8 years behind the growth chart at this point. And you don't expect this experiment to last long -- I mean, do we really think he's still going to be at this three years from now? -- so he needs to be challenged and at three steps below the majors it's still not like his presence is killing someone else's dream. So you throw him into the (slightly) deeper end of the pool and see how things go. The worst he can do is flunk and the best is that maybe he converts some of that athleticism into some actual results to where the thought that he might contribute at the ML level doesn't seem so crazy. It almost certainly doesn't happen that way but this is the best way to find out.
  25. Nice timing considering that it came on a night after the bullpen had to cover 6 innings and the replacement called up today was a position player. If they had to go long today it could have been a disaster considering that one 'long man' pitched multiple innings last night (Seaweed) and the other is slated to start soon (Montero).
