  1. Or we can just have Addison take care of it on [crossout:hc1ep3yb]10[/crossout:hc1ep3yb] [crossout:hc1ep3yb]11[/crossout:hc1ep3yb] [crossout:hc1ep3yb]12[/crossout:hc1ep3yb] 13 pitches and go home.
  2. As long as the tying run doesn't score on account of Grandy's (lack of) arm.
  3. Wouldn't have done it either. Yeah you increase your chances of a GS, but that's not what you need there.
  4. Someone obviously failed to tell these new guys -- Matz & Lugo -- that 90 pitches is the proper amount for four innings, not seven. I'm willing to let them slide for now but pitch count efficiency is not something we're going to continue to tolerate around here.
  5. [fimg=400]http://www.csnchicago.com/sites/csnchicago/files/styles/article_hero_image/public/2016/04/12/hawk-harrelson-0524.png?itok=a0dV8Rhi[/fimg] You can take it off the boooooooard ... Yes!
  6. Numbers and also available options. Same as Pill vis-a-vis Neil Ramirez. One can be demoted without exposure to waivers and the other can't. Not that those are always good ideas for long-term roster make-up, but in the short term it can save you a player you might need later on.
  7. Back up to 13th place in both ERA and ERA+ and gaining on still others -- four straight games of allowing 3, 3, 1, 1 runs will do wonderful things to your pitching stats. And look at our starters over the last four games (Wheeler, Harvey, Gsellman, Matz): 25.2 IP, [u:2yv2k8g5]2 ER[/u:2yv2k8g5] on 19 + 8 walks, 19 Ks Now they just need to: a) keep that up, and get deGrom straightened out so he can join the party

Nice game all around except for the part about how a grounder to one of our infielders seems like a 50/50 proposition at this point. Flores is suddenly perhaps the most dependable guy out there. That alone is a scary thought.
  9. Hopefully he got his rest as he and the boys were playing all night on Saturday.
  10. Looking for some heart on a Saturday night. [youtube:11bfs1h8]f7UHd7NVegE[/youtube:11bfs1h8]

  12. Edgy MD wrote: Zack Thornton, booty from the Ike Davis Trade, has been injured, rehabbed, DFA'd, removed from the roster, and finally completed his cascade of indignities with a non-tendering. He finally finds a new employer in the Atlantic League. Blake Taylor was the party of the other part and the main target of the Mets in that Ike trade. He's not exactly flourishing in his trip through the minors either. Once the 2nd round (51st overall) pick of the Pirates four years ago, he's currently 0-6, 4.47 in 9 starts for Columbia On the other hand he's still just 21 y/o (was still several months away from turning 18 when drafted) and has 48 innings under his belt so far in 2017 which is only slightly less than what he threw from 2014-2016 combined (41 + 12 + 9) so maybe it's just a case of catching up and shedding rust. Ike, btw, is hitting .214 w/3 HRs in 56 ABs for AAA Oklahoma City in the LAD chain.
  13. Jim Callis (mlb.com) in his latest (last?) 1st round mock draft throws out the possibility of a rarity among 1st pick projections: a HS 1st baseman. But, of course, that wouldn't be a novelty for the Mets (see: Smith, Dominic) Specifically Nick Pratto of Huntington Beach, CA [L/L, 6' 1" - 195] who he describes as "the best pure hitter among preps in the draft" where the 20th overall pick is his "absolute floor". Reportedly a good bat, good glove, good athleticism, the big question, as it is for all 1st basemen (I've seen no suggestion that he'll play anywhere else except maybe as a pitcher) is how much power eventually develops. Born during the first week of the 1998 ML post-season -- a point by which some of the crew here were already chatting with each other via the interwebs -- feel free to insert your "I feel old" line here. Other possibilities include: Texas HS OF Tristen Lutz -- big power, big arm, CF now but probably a corner OF later David Peterson, LHP, U-Oregon -- 6'6"/240, big K guy whose stock increased this year when his previously high walk rate plummeted: K/BB this season = 107/6 UCLA RHP Griffin Canning -- smallish for a pitcher (6' 1" - 190) has the "full arsenal" of pitches and the previously mentioned Logan Warmoth (SS UNC) or Keston Hiura from UC Irvine although positional (2B? OF?) and health questions (elbow) make Hiura tough to project.
  14. I think Keith is penciled in for the Chicago series starting Monday at home. Don't think he's going to travel to hot 'lanta for this one unless he was already down there for the Gregg Allman services or something. One never knows who Keith knows.
  15. Chad Ochoseis wrote: Frayed Knot wrote: . Fortunately the Expos never saw fit to stitch 'Spos across their chest and even the ever-experimenting Astros never reverted to 'Stros. The Metropolitans, on the other hand... Yeah but at least no one (to my knowledge anyway) has ever attempted to dub them the 'tans and even the Wilpons haven't dreamt up putting that on a uniform.
  16. Baseball Prospectus ranks their draft prediction by most interesting name. I thought only we did that? Maybe BP, like Gary Cohen, reads this place and steals our ideas. They assign Hans Crouse (RHP from a Calif HS) to the Mets, a player they say sounds like the 'villain in an action movie about a tough, street-wise cop who saves the day with guile and wit' 1st round goes off Monday at 6PM, just as we're ready to drop the puck at home vs the defending WS champs.
  17. DocTee wrote: Do you think they're watching the game on their phone, or using the device to video-record an historic moment? Their main purpose, I'm sure, is to record the moment. But in doing so they wind up viewing said moment on a screen a fraction of the size that those who aren't there can see it on, and it all seems to be based around the idea that having proof you were there for such an event is more important then actually viewing the event itself from the great vantage point you were lucky enough to have in the first place. Personally, I'd just watch the damn game and then maybe record the celebration if I felt it necessary to capture the feeling for posterity. Videos of moments like those usually suck anyway. If I wanted to see vids with a combination of jumpy, poorly-framed, out of focus, and skewed perspective I could just Google up 'The Best of Walmart Parking Lot Fights'.
  18. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Frayed Knot wrote: And Jerry Blevins vultures the win. I think the official scorer should have the discretion to give the win to Wheeler in a game like this. I know that there's the "brief-and-ineffective" rule, but you rarely see it, and when it does get invoked, the win seems to always go to the pitcher who came after Mr. Brief-And-Ineffective, and not to the one who preceded him. Yes, I think that's right. There's no precedence for retroactively assigning the win to a guy who wasn't in the game at any point during or after the lead was grabbed for good. So that leaves only Reed but, since you can't get a win and a save in the same game, the 'W' goes to Mr. Vulture du jour.
  19. And Jerry Blevins vultures the win.
  20. Reynolds was so deep against Gallo that he practically needed a relay man for that 4-3 put-out.

  22. Never had it Andrus. If this is over-turned on review I want it appealed to the World Court in The Hague. Now let's have d'Arnaud knock the prison tattoos off this guy for some insurance runs.
  23. Run for Lucas? Terry says Yes!
  24. Y'know what else strikes again ... the curse of the backup catcher!! If I get ambitious over the next few days I'm going to start counting up how many HRs this staff has served up to backup backstops this year.
