  1. As soon as the Giants started their runners on those two pitches (first one fouled off) I was thinking Triple Play ... almost got it but Posey's "liner" was too soft.

  3. Yanx fought back from 7-0 down to get to 7-6 Judge singled w/2 outs in the 9th to bring up Gary Sanchez ... who K'd to end the game. That's now 10 losses in 12

  5. HUNTER PENCE ATTEMPTS STOLEN BASES IN CRAZY SITUATIONS
  6. Besides, if you're going to deal away the likes of Conforto, Smith, Matz, etc. what are you looking for, young players under team control? ... that's what those guys are. You'd essentially be looking to get back guys who you hope will grow into what you gave away.

  8. Is it true that every day is Wilmer Flores BOBBLE day? I hat to pick on Wilmer during a game where he's had two big hits and nary an error (so far anyway) but the set up was too good to pass up

  10. Reyes and Grandy are both now just a single, double, and homer short of a cycle tonight.
  11. Five full innings in 1:20 ... is that even allowed in baseball these days?
  12. Vasgerjian (sp?) and Smoltz are a decent pair as network announcing teams go so your options aren't too bad even without NY radio. And a Wilmer HR as I type!!
  13. On the flip side of this issue, Asdrubal has barely made an out since moving over to that side of 2B (5 hits in 8 ABs) so if he keeps this up we may be able to sell it to other teams at trading time as a cause-and-effect kind of thing.
  14. Yanx release 1B/DH Chris Carter, completing his < one year fall from NL HR champ to FA afterthought to now unemployed baseball player. A .204/.286 BA/OBA w/70 K in 167 ABs will do that to a guy. They brought him on late in the winter for low money fearing that oft-injured Greg Bird might not be able to answer the bell. Well Bird hasn't been able to play but Carter's been so bad that they dumped him mid-stream anyway and have brought up a minor leaguer to try there instead. Yanx about to go down to the stRangers 8-1 (and there they go!). It was close until the Yanx played the Tyler Clippard card in the 8th The only NYY run was on a Judge HR (26).
  15. 7:15 start on FOX, which I believe means as a non-cable-subscriber who watches on MLB.tv, I'm SOL tonight. You're only SOL if the FOX affiliate in your area is on tap to show Mets/Giants. Conflicting with a FOX game used to mean an automatic shut-out for MLB.tv subscribers whether you were getting that particular game in your area or not, but the rules changed in the last couple years and, seeing as how you're in an AL city nowhere near either SF or NYC, there's a decent chance that your area is showing one of FOX's other games. I know BOS/LAA is also on their menu tonight and there may be a third game as well.
  16. You understand that maybe the club c/should have given him a better heads-up on this, but he's the one who made the whole thing a lot worse by yapping to the press about how pissed off he was over it. What he wants (and has apparently asked about in the past) is for the Mets to pick up the option they have on him for 2018. Players like to look for any leverage they might have (like by waiving a No-Trade clause) to pressure clubs into more guaranteed money and it sounds like he saw this as an opportunity to make a deal: I'll agree to the switch if you agree to the option. Problem is that, between his injuries, his season, his advancing age, and Rosario in his mirror, he's not exactly in a strong bargaining position and then started pouting when his ploy didn't work. In the end I don't know that he was ever more than a 50/50 bet to picked up anyway and he wasn't going to be the 2018 SS even if he did, all of which makes his protests seem out of proportion to forced move. And while sitting him now out of spite or as a version of punishment for yapping doesn't really do anyone any good, the fact that neither he nor the team is having the year they envisioned means that the time he was likely to become an ex-NYM had already jumped up from October to July and last night's soap opera will be largely irrelevant as to either the reason or the timing in that.
  17. Maybe we should advocate for a dual 3rd-baseman system. We station two guys out there where T.J. will field the ball and then hand it over the Wilmer to throw it over to 1st. It won't end our errors on grounders but it may cut them down to merely 1 or 2 per game.
  18. So does Terry call Yoenis into the office tomorrow and tell him he's playing RF? probably not

It's a silly quiz anyway (inspired by the RF's first name) and we probably don't have enough of a quorum here for these late games, so I'm just going to reveal the answer: [fimg=200]https://d1ldy8a769gy68.cloudfront.net/180/081/297/724/6/0812977246.jpg[/fimg]

  21. Nothing like Blach to Blach to Blach doubles (yes, I'm on slight delay here).
  22. I don't know how you folks keep all those flicks straight. I've probably seen less than a dozen films from Vic's list of 105 on Page 1 of this thread but I'm not even sure which ones as even those few start to blend together in my mind.
  23. Yeah, the main quarrel many had with the 'Pons was them not "opening the wallet" which in turn led many to assume that a different wealthy father-son duo would do better and seeing as how the Dolans ran Long Island based Cablevision, then the owner/distributer of SportsChannel which carried the NYM games, it made them the logical target for Knight in Shining Armor status. What this 'solution' ignored (aside from the whole part about not knowing whether Dolan pere or fils was any good at running a sports team - since proven 'Not') was that the Mets payroll in those days was consistently among the top tier in MLB. But for some fans it didn't match their (made up) idea of where the payroll should be and of course it didn't match the Yanqui payroll so anything south of that was forever doomed to be branded as inadequate.
  24. Blach -- yet another lefty in our current string of southpaws -- is actually the one pitcher who's been kinda, sorta good for the Giants this year. 4-4; 4.23; 1.22 WHiP in 18 games / 11 starts Plus I assume he was sent home early to rest up for the game, unlike the rest of their squad who were not only in Atlanta for a game Thursday but it was a night game and they had a two-plus hour rain delay and they had a 3-1/2 hour 12-11 loss which ended barely before the west coast games. I don't know when they arrived back in SF (or even IF they're in yet) but it was certainly after the Mets and their one hour flight. It's not often that the home team has the rougher travel schedule.
  25. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Inevitably, 3 nights of watching these games caught up to me and I saw little past Grandy's homer. Quick recap then: - Matz held them to three hits over six, but both those hits were all in a row and all for XBs (HR - 2B - HR). Oh yeah and he walked five - Seward was the first reliever and it was also his turn to serve up a HR on the first pitch he threw. He followed that with a walk and a single - Next came the worst outing of Jerry Blevins' NYM career; he got Bellinger to FO as his first hitter and then walked the next three ... #2 in that sequence was reliever Pedro Baez in his 3rd ML AB ... on four pitches ... with the bases loaded ... and two outs. - Met pitchers walked nine on the night and gave up three more HRs - Met batters went 1-8 w/RiSP and that one hit didn't even score a run - The last best hope was when Conforto PH in bottom 8 with the bases loaded ... he fouled out on the first pitch IOW, it was our best game all week. But at least it was over in a tidy 3:33
