  1. Mets still out-hitting the Jay's in this game ... and losing 7-1
  2. Edgy MD wrote: Hey, look. Canada still has T=#FF8000]o=#00BF40]ys=#0000FF]Я=#00BF40]Us stores. Don't they also still have ESSO? I mean, that brand disappeared from this side of the 49th parallel in the early 70s
  3. Mets not getting the benefit of several B/S calls so far, in both halves of the innings.
  4. Ryu retires just four of the nine hitters he faced in innings 1 & 2 and yet NYM bats manage just one run.
  5. The tennis system is more akin to the proposed Robo-Ump which, as you know, is something I'm in favor of. It's a technology driven device with near-instant feedback which makes a definitive In/Out call. It involves no guesswork, no 14 camera angles to examine so as to Maybe get a new view, and no staring at super-slo-mo like it's the Zapruder film with some hidden info that will bust the case wide open if only we look long enough and hard enough. And, as far as I know anyway, tennis DOES have limits on challenges and they DO enforce them. The players (not some dude in a booth somewhere) make the appeal and it needs to be instant and they need to use them wisely rather than risk them on 50/50 shots on the basis that there's no harm in NOT trying it and maybe they'll get lucky.
  6. So MLB is telling us that that replay provided "definitive proof" not only to flip a call but to end a game by erasing the tying run with a flipped call? BULLSHIT!! Regardless of which team is helped or hurt, that one was no more or less definitive than the previous pickoff review and despite all the assurances that only "obvious" calls will be reversed, the track record shows that anything with 51% probability and guesswork is enough to stop the game a half dozen times and correct "wrongs" that couldn't carry an agreement beyond MAYBE a slight majority of those viewing it. This system sucks, it always sucked, the NFL has been at this since the Reagan administration and their system sucks worse and gets worse all the time despite claims that they just need a bit more time to "smooth out the rough edges". "But there will be challenge limits!! ... And there will be time constraints!! ... And if it corrects just one bad call it's worth it!!!" ... No! It! Isn't! And tonight was a 3-2, 8-1/2 inning game that took nearly 3-1/2 hours and MLB seemingly has no idea why or how to correct it. I might have a few suggestions for them.
  7. The story about Gary missing last night's game recalls the great WC Fields joke. In one of his movies, WC's character faked the death of his Mother in Law to get out of work and go to the track. "It must be hard to lose your mother in law" his boss said to him. "Yes" he replied, "it's nearly impossible".
  8. Bo Bichette's given first name is actually Bo, it's not short for anything. Papa Dante was born Alphonse Dante Bichette. Dante Jr., older brother of Bo, was a high draft pick by the Yanx but his career has seemingly stalled.
  9. Let's just get it over with and have reviews of every call.
  10. And the "limit" on replays is once again ignored.
  11. September 11, 1985 saw Pete Rose notch hit #4,192 to pass Ty Cobb on the all time hit list. If you happen to run into Pete you just might be able to convince him to talk about it.
  12. Edgy MD wrote: So, am I correct in assuming this rule will be in place for the post-season? No ... unless they change things up of course. If nothing else, this season has shown MLB to change on the fly like it's a well-coached NHL squad.
  13. I always find college football talk (or hoops for that matter) between guys with no connection to those colleges to be a bit strange, particularly when they're talking rivalry games. I mean, sure there are great histories and stories behind them ... but to me it's kind of like being at someone else's family reunion, none of those stories involve you.
  14. So, so far NYM bats have chashed Anderson and Kay-O'd Anthony.
  15. =ashie62 post_id=46343 time=1599866814 user_id=90] Andrew Cuomo is sitting next to Geddy.
  16. Geddy Lee cardboard cut-out in the house!! He's at least a semi-regular at Toronto based BJ games. Here he's front row four guys to the left.
  17. Remember, first pitch sked for 1837 EDT tonight.
  18. I thought this was going to be a Bret Saberhagen retrospective.
  19. In defense of, well not of Wacha & Porcello themselves but the thinking behind the strategy that brought them here, they weren't supposed to be what they became which was effectively the numbers 2 & 3 starters behind JdG. They were supposed to be fighting it out to see who'd grab the 5th starter slot and who'd be the 6th starter/long reliever/backup plan. As bad as those two have been, it's been made worse by the non-attendance and/or suckitude of Thor and Gsellman and the two Long Island boys. Going back to The Shawn Estes Experiment (they opened one time for Tears For Fears) now THAT was a staff made up of five hopes and five prayers. I'm betting that the thinking was that all those 2002 starters -- Leiter, Astacio, Estes, D'Amico, Trachsel -- had at one point laid claim to being their clubs #1 starter and so IFFFFF they all simultaneously put it all together again that you'd have the making of a good staff. But of course that's the baseball equivalent of being dealt a straight flush and it wasn't going to happen; Leiter was too old, Astacio was old before his time, while Estes, Trax, and d'Amico were only briefly aces and for not particularly good SF/MIL/TB teams. This year's staff, at least as constructed and planned last winter (which now seems like it was about a decade ago) wasn't depending on getting 'career best' stuff out of either of these guys.
  20. I love Gary's "Oh wow!" whenever anyone makes a great play. That's new, right or have I been asleep? Gary seems to drag out, 'Oh Wow' when HE is surprised that the play was made.

  22. This is where we were vs Philly last week ... erased an early deficit but started from so far behind that theres zero room for error as we get to crunch time.
  23. And how many times do you see it Ralph, a guy makes a great play to end the inning and he's batting fifth in the bottom half?
  24. CATCH. OF. THE. YEAR.
  25. Two HBPs, both w/two outs and two strikes
