  1. 4 hours 50 minutes, and that doesn't even include the 1:16 of weather delays. It is said to be the longest 9-inning game, regular or post-season, in MLB history. I'm sure that, outside of a select number of avid but sleepy MFY & Injun fans, the end of this game was likely witnessed by a nation of dozens. Manfred (and Selig) must be so proud.
  2. Rays dispose of the Buffalo Legacies in two games. Await the winner of NYY/CLE, Game 2 of which is being delayed due to storms of biblical proportion.
  3. Highest average exit velocity in MLB this year 1. Tatis Jr 2. Christian Yelich 3. Mike Trout 4. Travis F. d'Arnaud !!! (stat seen on one of today's games)
  4. The Marlins, who have never lost a playoff series in franchise history, draw first blood vs the Cubbies but lose OF Starling Marte to a late game HBP/broken hand
  5. You betcha!
  6. Home team winning pct in 2019: 52.5% Home team winning pct in 2020 w/no fans: 55.17% Just sayin'
  7. And a Freddie single wins it in the 13th Reds went to a five-IF alignment but it didn't matter.
  8. Astros 3 -- Twins 1 ... and it's 18 straight. That simply defies all logic.
  9. Expansion, yes. Sale, no. Unless Stevie's into a little bribery, that is, in order to make sure that the sale goes through.
  10. Twinkies head to the 9th down 2-1 That's two runs scored in 17 innings and it's not like Houston is running Cole & Verlander out there this year. A loss here would extend their playoff losing streak 0-18 and make them the first team to go home even before some of the others play their first game
  11. Braves v Reds scoreless headed to bottom 10
  12. Or, that that, just by itself, is automatically a good thing. What I suspect Manfred is saying here is that, while we usually handle things via our regularly scheduled calendar, the transfer of a major market franchise is worthy of being dealt with on its own.
  13. I think it's questionable whether the lowest levels of minor league baseball can survive as independent pro leagues. As it was they were kept afloat by being subsidized by their parent club who in turn were permitted to underpay the labor. So now that MLB is scrambling to distance themselves from part two of that equation it's not surprising that part one is going away as well. I suspect there will be some attempts at forming new indy ball leagues once the fallout from all this reshuffling settles down, but I think that's more likely to occur in areas with metropolises larger than those found in Appalachia.
  14. =whippoorwill post_id=47707 time=1601422026 user_id=79] Indians are my sons favorite team
  15. As per the opening post in this thread, all games in the opening round will be played at the home park of the higher seeded team. After that the series in both leagues head for bubbles, one in SoCal, the other in Texas.
  16. And the two early games end within a minute of each other with the home teams losing 4-1 in both.
  17. The Twins bad luck/play continues. With two outs in top 9, an error extended the inning. A bases-loaded walk and two-run single followed and Mini-Soda is down 4-1 in bottom 9 Giving away post-season games is bad enough ... doing it in a best-of-three is deadly.
  18. Wed Sept 30; -- Reds @ Braves -- 1200 (EDT) ESPN -- Marlins @ Cubs -- 1400 ABC -- Cards @ Padres -- 1700 ESPN2 -- Brewers @ Dodgers -- 2200 ESPN
  19. Twins & Astros have somehow turned 7 innings of a 1-1 game into three-plus hours. Houston batting in top 8 w/a man on.
  20. A's get a lead-off single to start the 7th and break up the perfecto. 3-0 ChiSox
  21. I'm not sure he was ever here.
  22. Tuesday's sked: -- Astros @ Twins: 1400 EDT on ABC (I guess they're pre-empting soap operas for this?) -- ChiSox @ A's: 1500 on ESPN (so that's noon local time) -- Jays @ Rays: 1700, TBS -- Yanx @ Indians: 1900, ESPN
  23. I noticed that minutes ago and was just about to post the exact same thing. I wasn't sure whether to count that score as a 5 (I also got Maris, Strasburg, and Toriii) or a 4 since counting Hargrove as a right answer twice seems like cheating.
  24. - The Twins last won a playoff series in 2002 when they beat that other star-crossed AL post-season team, the A's, 3 games to 2 in the first round. They then won Game 1 of the ALCS vs eventual champs Anaheim, but lost the next four straight - In 2003 they beat the Yanx in Game one of the ALDS ... and then lost the next three straight - In 2004 they beat the Yanx in Game One of the ALDS ... and then lost the next three straight They've since lost 13 consecutive post-season games, the last ten of which were to the Yanx: - three straight to Oakland in '06 - three straight to the Yanx in '09 - three straight to the Yanx in '10 - the 2017 WC play-in game to the Yanx - and then three straight to the Yanx in 2019 So that's ten straight post-season losses to the Yanx and 2-19 in six series over the last 17 seasons Overall they have 13 straight playoff losses and are 3-23 in all post season games since their lone 21st century series victory Their previous victory prior to that was their win in the 1991 WS, aka: the Morris/Smoltz game
  25. I'm, perhaps oddly, less opinionated in the NL this year than the AL I generally like to see the best teams get through especially this year as a lower seed winning could mean a sub-500 team in the WS -- although maybe that would serve as a warning not to do this again. Part of me sadistically wants to see the Dodgers reach the WS again only to lose it again. Definitely Padres over Cardinals although SD's pitching starting coming apart at the seems in the final week. I'm sort of Brewer & Red ignorant this season. And speaking of the Reds, I wonder if Thom Brennerman's 'Fag Capital' got their team in this year's playoffs?
