  1. =duan post_id=60666 time=1618352222 user_id=99] I get that. Can't remember who it was, but I remember hearing someone say 'until you get there you can't believe how FAST a Major League game goes for a manager' - the idea being the ramifications are so magnified from any other situation that you can't replicate it till you experience it.
  2. And, of course, the bigger problem: WE'VE GOT TWO FUCKING HITS!!!!!
  3. The leadoff walk was obviously a big problem, but that was a good inning otherwise for Castro. Got burned a shit hit (Harper) and two grounders not hit hard enough to turn two and to turn one.
  4. =duan post_id=60644 time=1618351118 user_id=99] I'd keep Castro in here.
  5. So a new pitcher comes in, walks the first hitter, and now the Phils need a mound meeting. What's he going to tell him, to NOT walk the next guy? ( or maybe he told him to throw a GiDP) Teams should get charged with three mound meetings for stuff like that.

  8. In a 7-inning game, shouldn't the arbitrary requirement of 5 innings for a starting pitcher to get a win be lowered? And anytime a pitcher retires the first two batters in the game, he gets credit for a quality start. OK I made that up

  11. Dom da-Dom Dom Dom da-Dom Dom DAH!!
  12. So after five games over almost two weeks, we'll now (hopefully) get in four games in the next 48 hours.
  13. =G-Fafif post_id=60570 time=1618338534 user_id=55] For all the talk of “wasting” deGrom's magnificent first two starts, don't sleep on Nimmo's seven hits and six walks in five games resulting in only two runs scored for Brandon. The 2021 Mets are proving capable of not taking advantage of any asset at their disposal.
  14. Yes, there was Bobby Righty / Whitey / Fresno Jones and Bobby Lefty / Afro / Jersey Jones
  15. Marlins, playing the Braves, have a replay overturn go against them so Mattingly gets tossed arguing with the umps on the field who agreed with him! He must still think he's on the Ysnquis where all the calls are supposed to automatically go in his favor.
  16. In Minneapolis, the Twins (vs BoSox), the NHL's Wild, and the NBA's Timberwolves all had home games scheduled for tonight. All three have been canceled. In tonight's Yanqui game, Aaron Hicks is going to sit out over the same issue.
  17. Classic. Was Big Al the same guy that once said, "we're not posting well as a forum?" Yup!
  18. Yeah, that's where I'm at too. I think the runner probably missed the plate but I don't overturn that based on what I just saw there (wasn't watching live). It's the same deal if he were called out; the Phils would challenge (at that point of the game there's no reason not to) but I wouldn't support flipping that call either. I'll reiterate what I've said here a bunch of times, that replay is always sold on the idea that it will only be used to reverse the obvious blown calls. Fans bought into the idea that Don Denkinger's call would have been undone, that the Galarraga kid from Detroit would have gotten his perfect game back, and the handful of obvious wrongs committed each season (only the one's against your team of course - the other way doesn't really exist) and the game will be a better game for all concerned. But instead things have slipped, as even a minimum amount of logic would tell you it would, into the situation where if the replay appears to show that the call was probably wrong then it gets flipped. So not only is the requirement not that of a jury trial: beyond a reasonable doubt, it's not even as high as the one for a civil suit which asks for 'a preponderance of evidence'. Instead it's more like what I tend to think of as the '51 %' standard. But the thing is, the more the over-seer umps refrain from overturning those kind of 'coin flip' calls, not only will replay at least start to resemble what it was supposedly built for in the first place, but also the more gun-shy managers (and their consultants on the other end of the phone line) will get about challenging those ticky-tack calls which accomplish little more than to delay the game for what are, at worst, minor misjudgments.
  19. He did ... they only WANT you to believe he died from Leukemia at the age of 36
  20. =stevejrogers post_id=60378 time=1618105300 user_id=57] I thought I saw/read somewhere that he was commissioned by WGN to do it
  21. The silly little ditty, GO CUBS GO, which is played after home wins at Wrigley and gained a national audience during their WS stretch run of 2016 was penned by the late folk singer Steve Goodman who wrote it as a retort to then manager Dallas Green complaining that Goodman's other Cubs tune, the Dying Cub Fan's Last Request, was "too depressing ".
  22. So in the pre-season prediction polls, whoever opined for, 'Worst Offense in the History of Mankind', please step up and claim your prize.
  23. Not much yet out of that #2-3 combo. That will change... be nice if it were soon.
  24. Braves take down Wheeler (plus several of the relievers we failed to dent) and the Phils 6-1. Nats fall to the Dodgers 1-0 on a Justin Turner HR
