  1. Well they are accurate, just in a generic sense. Essentially they're saying that teams in the position of the Mets in that specific situation [score, baserunners, outs remaining] have a 2.5% chance of winning. iow, put a team in that situation 1,000 times and they'd come back to win in 25 of them. New positive plays improve those odds by calculate amounts just as negative ones lower them right up until the final out gets you to 100 or 0 depending on which dugout you're in. But those odds are not specific to the particular teams playing; who's available that day, or where in the lineup they are; who's on the mound and who's warming up; the stadium, weather, importance, etc.
  2. Riding on this game is the difference between an impressive (3-1) series win against a top opponent vs a disappointing split after a hot (2-0) start.
  3. Which of the triumvirate thought That was a good idea?
  4. Doesn't look like they're even going to pretend to score tonight.

  6. Big time sweep right there. Taking care of business vs the DBacks was one thing but they're the JV of NL West. The Giants are the varsity and were also a hot team coming in (5 straight W's) who, oh yeah, won 107 games last year. Can do no worse now than split the four-game series and can do a helluva lot better. Bassitt-hound tomorrow, then the Cookie Monster on Thursday afternoon when it will hopefully be warmer.
  7. A CG (or, y'know, that) is probably too much to hope for in this era and this early in the season. But Mad Max is thru 5 on just 67 pitches.
  8. Delayed thoughts on the Game !!! (cuz I watched the game on delay) - Both replay reviews were obviously big (one built a run for us the other took one off the board for them) and both were Probably correct. But both were razor close and (IMO) fell short of the "definitive" standard that supposedly exists and I would have been one bitchin' sum-bitch if we had been on the opposite end of either of those calls much less both of them. - Like Gary, I'm not sure how Buck got away with that double-switch w/Nimmo. It ultimately didn't matter but it should call Willie Randolph to mind from one of his early games (was it his very first?). Coming as early as it did it led to charges that Willie didn't know how to double-switch but he was more a victim of unusual circumstances as the inning ended on a CS (or maybe a pickoff) and Doug Meintkiewicz (I used to know how to spell that) ran onto the field before anyone had a chance to tell him he was out of the game. The umps didn't let Willie get away with it then and I don't see why they didn't swat away Buck's attempt today. - The Jankowsi/Dom back-to-back-K's hurt although, in Jandowski's defense, he was thrown a couple of nasty pitches. Would have helped if he was looking away in that situation but it didn't look like it he was. Dom simply looked bad in his AB. - Lindor's throwing is a bit worrisome.
  9. =G-Fafif post_id=89748 time=1650393936 user_id=55] Nimmo activated. Plummer optioned. 29th man TK for second game (to give SFG the chance to get their pokey addition to New York).

  11. I use three letter codes often and have for years. I guess I pretty much made up my own on the ones that weren't obvious and have been treating those as if they are the universal standard ... because of course they should be. NYM, PHI, ATL, WAS, MIA CHC, PIT, MIL, StL*, CIN LAD, SFG, SDP, ARZ, COL NYY (when not using MFY), BOS, TOR, TBR, BAL CHW, CLE, KCR, DET, MIN TEX, HOU, LAA, SEA, OAK * And, yes, I usually take the trouble to use the lower case t
  12. In what can only be descried as a sign of the times, there's an article in the NY Post today explaining why MLB's package on PEACOCK+ is better than the one on APPLE+ ... only I can't tell you what it says because, rather than being part of the regular NYPost sports section, the article sits behind a pay wall on NYPOST SPORTS+
  13. I noticed the flat side as well a coupla days ago.
  14. Better that Jackie be considered as the 20th century civil rights leader second only MLK Jr rather than M. Ali who is sometimes touted (and grossly undeserving IMO) for that spot.
  15. Offense held hostage: Day Two
  16. Didn't help that the bats couldn't touch pitchers named Half Gallen and Mary Poppen.
  17. Always helps to have a weak opponent too.

  19. Looking up Billy Williams after his mention by the booth: there were 12 consecutive seasons [1962-1973] where he played in 150 or more games including nine where he was at 160+ Talk about the best ability often being availability

  21. "Those Clemson pussies can't handle our cocks" Or so claims Gamecock fans in their disparagement of Clemson Tiger supporters. Former poster 'Jersey Shore' was a U South Carolina grad who wrote that way back when. My bevy of Clemson relatives might have other ideas on the subject.
  22. 50 years old is Butch. Can't tell if he still has his freckles.
  23. Wasn't sure off the bat that that one had enough ... turned out it had plenty.
