  1. Does anyone remember what Arencibia was famous for in his playing career?
  2. =roger_that post_id=116378 time=1673288297 user_id=128] Funny, I was just reading Catfish Hunter's autobiography last night (I plan to hunt some catfish later this week is why)
  3. Also, the Tigers included a bat as a throw-in in that deal.
  4. Nate Colbert was once the answer to a trivia question about which player had the highest percentage of his team's RBIs in one season. Not sure if he still holds that distinction. IIRC, it was paired with the same question about the pitcher with the highest pct of his team's wins - which was, of course, Steve Carlton I don't remember the format but I do remember guessing both correctly.
  5. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=116216 time=1672989747 user_id=68] This situation is no different than if Coca-Cola owned SNY instead of Sterling/Wilpon.
  6. Heyman, Post: Correa/NYM talks hit a "hiccup" leading Correa/Boras to be in contact with "at least one other team".
  7. Oven Mitt vs Opera Glove Two of Marvel Comics' lesser known characters.
  8. I'm amazed that a) someone remembered Anthony Banda And remembered (and found) the existence of a 'Memories of Anthony Banda' thread.
  9. Back to the subject at hand, Ken Rosenthal apparently told a podcast connected to The Athletic that a NYM/Carlos Correa contract could look "dramatically different" than the announced original.
  10. Not a coming or a going but a staying as Jeff Passan reports that the BoSox and 3B Rafael Devers are "finalizing" an 11-year deal. Unlike some of the other mega-deals (and possible deals!) Devers is not yet a FA and just recently turned 26.
  11. DiComo has a good summary piece on mlb.com, but neither side is currently leaking anything so there's no actual new news.
  12. So, it's a new year but no new news on Carlos Correa.
  13. I particularly liked the time one of the Tabs went with: EVERYBODY'S GOT SOMETHING TO HIDE 'CEPT FOR ME AND MY MONKEY They did have to use smaller type than usual if I'm remembering it correctly.
  14. Similar to Hillary's conveniently-discovered-when-she-was-running-for-NYS-Senate NYY fandom.
  15. I've long thought that it's a testament to the umps as a whole that I rarely have opinions on any of them specifically ... with occasional exceptions of course [cough Angel, cough] But I usually noticed Ted Barrett. He was a big sum-bitch for one. But he also gave off that impression of being in control without having to resort to his size or getting loud and argumentative. Like if Gil Hodges had ever become an ump.
  16. =smg58 post_id=115728 time=1672353182 user_id=62] I hadn't appreciated how good Rolen's case is until I looked at his stats just recently.
  17. Not sure that the short game is in Correa's interest. The problem isn't his health now but the possibility that the plate in his ankle, already nearly a decade old, will cause problems as he ages into his thirties. So, while he can choose to two-year deal it all he wants, those are likely to peter out long before a single twelve-year deal will.
  18. The Braves simply had a number that they wouldn't surpass and Swanson, a Georgia native, wanted to surpass it. They've also got Vaughn Grissom, the call up they used at 2nd while Albies was injured part of '22, waiting in the wings even if they're not yet totally sold that he'll be able to cut it at SS defensively.
  19. =MFS62 post_id=114620 time=1670877331 user_id=60] According to Jeff Passan, the Braves have traded for A's catcher Sean Murphy. No other details available yet.
  20. Nathan Eovaldi, RHP, Texas, two years
  21. I thought it was going to be about the BoSox selling a tall, thin lefty.
  22. btw, the NYT now owns the Athletic and I've seen offers of discounted subscription prices if you order both. Might be worth looking into if you're thinking of signing up for either.
  23. Hill is the oldest active player in MLB and Pittsburgh will be the 12th team of his career.
  24. A Boy Named Seo wrote: ... did you get anything Metly this year? Like maybe a concerning MRI? Great thread title btw
  25. NY Post; "one source" lists the chances at 55% of the Mets and Correa coming to an agreement.
