  1. ]I believe Ishii got the nod based on seniority and his contract size. When Trachsel went to the DL due to his back, I think the Mets lacked faith in Seo, which prompted the trade for Ishii at the start of the season.Remember also that Benson was down as the season started. And, yes, the fact that they traded for Ishii in the first place showed the lack of faith in Seo and/or Heliman although, coming off last year, it's not like either one had earned themselves a whole lot of slack. The argument that the team then stayed too long with Ishii while Heilman was cleaning up in the pen and JWS toiling in the minors is probably true - although it does tend to scan over the parts where Ishii did provide (early) a few more good starts than he seems to get credit for; that the supposed weak pen would have been a whole lot weaker w/o Heilman there to bolster it; and that Seo has emerged from his exile with a wider variety of pitches then just the two he was (by some accounts) stubbornly clinging to for the last few seasons.

  4. Hey Z-dude, if you want the Phils series at the end of August it's yours. As mentioned, you can flip through some of the earlier examples here as a guideline - but it's not like there are any hard and fast rules about what's gotta be in it. It's just a way of letting the forum know more about the upcoming opponent they probably haven't seen for a while ... so most KTEs tell us about the scheduled pitching matchups, who's hot/who's not, recent callups/DLs, ex-Mets we might be seeing, your personal sexual experiences with any of the opposing players, new police blotter info, stuff like that.If you're game, have it ready to go either the day the series starts or the day before since there's a off-day on Monday 29th.
  5. I think that about the time Sept 1st rolls around we're going to have about a 15 man pen.
  6. That's your opinion.I'm not sure which I got sick of quicker, those, or the Costanza/Iacocca Chrysler ads.
  7. Yo 'Metsaholic', you haven't flippped us off in this thread yet.Don't want to skip this one because you never know if we'll miss your message in the other 7 threads.
  8. I think that in certain seats bringing a glove should be almost mandatory.
  9. I believe that site will update those numbers on at least a semi-regular basis.
  10. I think you can find references to this if you check in the newly created (by popular demand apparently) 'Mets Documentary Forum'; the same place where this thread will soon wind up.

  14. Nate Colbert still may hold the record for the largest pct of his team's RBIs for one of those early '70s Padre teams.on edit: He had 111 Ribbies for the '72 Pads who only had a team total of 452. 2nd place went to LeRon Lee with 47.
  15. That's as good a throw as I've seen from Wright all year. His decision making and footwork still need some work but I'm not worried about his defense long-term.
  16. Dukey making Cliffy look silly
  17. BA: A 21st-round pick out of Division II Molloy College on Long Island [and Wantagh HS], Joe Holden is opening some eyes in the short-season New York-Penn League. The outfielder went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored to help lead Brooklyn to a 9-1 victory against New Jersey. On the season, the 21-year-old is hitting .335/.399/.432 with 16 stolen bases in 19 attempts.
  18. I just realized that after I posted.KC won in '85 against those speedy cardinals.Oh well, too late to change now.
  19. KC last won in '87, just after the Mets won their last WS.

  21. ]he was in the minors and majors in 2001-03, but starting in 2004 hasn't been in the minors. Are you sure about this? He looked to be pretty much a full-time ML player by '02 and I don't see any record of him as being in the minors since '01.So perhaps if the TBDR didn't use all those options back when they were available it could explain why he still has some "leftover".I think this is all moot anyway since I don't see him as minor legue bound anytime soon.
  22. ]I do think that Diaz could develop into a pretty consistent offensive threat in the future.I do too. I'd just wish fans would refrain from acting as if that's already the case.
  23. "Flu-like symptoms" is what's used by athletes to cover all extraneous illnesses from hangovers to various social diseases.
  24. Yes, although as of around the mid-season point this year, the NL was actually out-scoring the AL on a per/game basis. Not sure if that's kept up and it certainly would be the exception rather than the rule if it did.
  25. I will catch for the Mets before Roberto Hernendez does.
