Patchy: see the 'Way-Back' thread for the Mazzilli collision, although I don't know if that's the same one you're thinking of (but how many could Maz have had?).The biggest piece of information from the Stork interview is that Sid Rosenberg is the dumbest creature that still walks upright and has opposable thumbs (but you likely already knew that)."So George, you're from Utah, are you a Mormon?"GT: No"oh, so you like drink and stuff?"
Yes, which is sort of like naming someone the tallest midget in the circus.I don't remember this one specifically. Dan Norman couldn't play baseball worth a damn but he must have been a bitch to run into.
]Does anybody remember how much time Dave Parker missed after John Stearns broke his face?As I recall it was only a day or two.Of course when he resumed playing he was wearing a half hockey goaltenders mask.P.S. Our "embarrassing" lineup is 5th in the league in runs scored. And I'd prefer to leave the decision on whether Beltran goes to the DL to the doctors and staff.
7:55 update (WFAN):Cameron: Broken nose, fractures of cheek bone(s), slight concussionWill remain in hospital overnightHas been placed on DL - Diaz called upBeltran:Groggy, being taken for a CAT scanSore shoulder, cuts on left side of faceFloyd:Sore knee - no official word. Unlikely to start tomorrow
I was at that Hahn/Theodore game ... it was pretty violent but it didn't involve heads. The biggest damage of that collision was Stork's hip.Ralph Garr hit that ball (and then circled the bases).
[u:2f5652f317]Cameron[/u:2f5652f317]Duquette: "alert, concious, moving"Ed Coleman (a bit later): - still hospitalized -- may accompany team to LA- cut lip(s), maybe missing teeth,- a bit groggy [u:2f5652f317]Beltran[/u:2f5652f317]EC: - sore left shoulder, cuts on face, - will go with team to LA- no concussion - although doesn't remember the collisionAnd - just for good measure - [u:2f5652f317]Floyd[/u:2f5652f317]- will get precautionary X-Rays on knee
I noticed that in the Braves/Giants game that went 12 innings the other day both managers used pitchers as PHers (to hit for other pitchers). I don't think either had a hit.
Well the only reason I point that out goes along with your question of why the Mets don't release this info. I guy I know who works in the ticket dept swears that sched details are still changing well into the fall and that they just don't want to publicize anything only to have to retract it later. And keep in mind that this story isn't something the Sox are announcing, it's a leaked glimpse of a tentative format published because the writer knows he has a captive audience who can't get enough info about their once and future enemies (Yanx & Pedro). Not sure how/why the Mets pick their sale dates, I never asked him.
Do keep this little phrase from that piece in mind before you go finalizing vacation plans:"The schedule still must be approved by the 30 team owners and is subject to change."
Which would be weird because Pierzynski's rep before coming to the Sox was that of a class-A asshole. And here's something I just learned: Jon Garland was a 1st round pick (10th overall) by Chicago in 1997 ... but it was the Cubs!! The northsiders then dealt him to the southside barely a year later for the immortal Matt Karchner, a reliever who went on to make 58 appearances over 3 seasons for the Cubbies and hasn't resurfaced in MLB since 2000.Wow that's a bad trade! What could have possibly soured them on their 1st round pick from just 13 months earlier to deal him for a 31 y/o middle reliever? There's been talk now and then that Garland was one of those who was slow to put together all his talent, but do you really decide this is a fatal flaw when he's 19?
'learnin' about history ... havin' some food'And just to head off any panic about the elbow when we don't see Reyes in this afternoon's lineup, Willie was planning on resting him today anyway.Gary on the radio last night noted that he looked sluggish and was barely running out a grounder (he's also about 1 for his last 15).
]looked to me like he had a better chance of tagging wright out than throwing out beltran at the plate.... That's why Wright stopped. And even if he goes after him there the run will score during the chase. For that play alone our mgr gets the name WWBB - at least for the night.
ChiSox problem in a nutshell:Missing Frank Thomas (for the season) and Carl Everett (temporarily) they're sporting a lineup w/Timo Perez at DH and batting 5th.
Dodgers put up 2 in the 5th off Tejada and the Phils.2-0 w/Brad Penny in charge. And that would be 19 y/o Felix Hernandez making his 2nd ML start who's holding the Twinkies scoreless into the 7th (on 3 hits/0 walks). And his Seattle teammates just handed him a 1-0 lead.
Nats hold on for 6-5 win.Texas and Boston tied up in the 10th ... and now the Sox win it!Cleveland just dropped an 11-spot!! on KC in the top of the 9th to take a 13-7 lead.Still 7-0 Angels, now in the 5th. Loser is the WC leader, 3 games ahead of the Yanx.Bal'mer beats Tampa and Kazmir. Too little too late for the O'sToronto beats Detroit -- this is a good thing too though they're kinda hanging on the fringes of the WC race. Shouldn't have dropped 2 of 3 last weekend.
I'm kinda thinking that we should be pulling for the Nats this week while they're butting heads w/the 'Stros. I'd be more nervous seeing Houston threatening to run and hide than Washington.I'm holding out little hope of SF doing us any favors (although they just beat Houston 2 of 3).Yanx lost 2-1 to the ChiSox and Contreras.Only the Yanx can turn a 2-1 game into a 3-1/2 hour ordeal.
