  1. Cliffy goes bang-zoom with a laser over the CF fence following a gift 2-out IF single for Beltran. Burnett isn't getting much help from his 'D' so far but we've also hit a few shots: Kaz, Cliff, Diaz 4-zip bottom 3
  2. Yeah, I wonder if those Yanqui fans who are drooling over John Peter as their next leadoff hitter/CFer realize that his arm is barely better than Bernie's. Or that his OBP is nothing to write home about these days also. Seo dances around another walk & an infield single to toss a scoreless 2nd.
  3. SPEED KILLS! Castro uses his "speed" to create a run. First he legs out a potential DP ball - thanks to a double-clutch by Castillo at 2nd ... and then scores standing all the way from 1st on a Diaz 2-out 2B - thanks largely to the fact that while Cabrera may be a terrific hitter he's an awful runner/OFer who failed to cut-off what was essentially a liner over SS.
  4. I suspect that some of Heilman's early appearences when he was essentially the long man may be skewing those results a bit. Coming in earlier in the game is almost automatically going to lower the "leverage" score.
  5. KazMat stars in the bottom of the 1st also with 2 nice plays. Seo works around a 2-out walk to Cabrera to end the inning courtesy of a decent running catch of a foul ball by Cliff.
  6. As in; Save Our Season Anyway, Mets take 1-0 lead off Burnett in the 1st as a Beltran groundout drives in [u:a86f048d56]Matsui!!![/u:a86f048d56] who was on 3rd following a loooong triple to RCF. Jae Seo on the mound
  7. The usual answer to that question (being Long Island and all) was; "with a WBAB bumpa sticka!" " ... and could ya play some 'Zebra for me'?"
  8. Ah, so ROE is 'Reached on Error'. And XI, I'm guessing, is hits in eXtra Innings? My original post was my way of saying I had no fuckin idea what either of those columns meant.
  9. Only 1 'ROE' and 0 'XI' for the entire time? ... Jeez he suxx!!!!
  10. "I wonder how much of a factor this is in the current state of affairs." Shouldn't matter at all. He'll only be '10 & 5' if/when they pick up the option, in the meantime it won't matter if they pitch him 6 days a week or if they stick him in the corner and ignore him for the rest of the year.
  11. Braves up 7-4 in the 8th despite getting out-hit 14-9 Cards 3 - Astros 2 in the 9th Philly romps on the Nats 7 - 1 Boston gets only 4 hits and loses. I wonder if their fans are bitching that they never hit rookie pitchers? Recent Baltimore call-up John Maine (great name to pitch in New England) starts and wins. seriously, I just used a racist word when I really meant "Guardians" up 6-0 over Twinkies late Yanx just starting in Oakland Seattle up 1 - 0 in the 1st in Anaheim
  12. We ain't gonna win getting 5 or 6 singles a night.
  13. The important games: Phils 7 - Nats 1 in the 4th (David Bell GS) Braves 2 - Reds 0 in the 4th (Chipper HR) Astros 2 - Cards 1 in the 2nd Bal'mer 4 - BoSox 3 in the 6th (One-time Met farmhand Lenny DiNardo making his 1st even ML start for Boston) ChiSox 4 - Tigers 0 - 3rd Indians 1 - Twins 0 in the 3rd
  14. S for George Seaver we knew him as Tom. His fastball was lightning his curveball da bomb.
  15. Trax is slated to start on Monday. He's not an option here.
  16. Zambrano's not getting hit hard, but he's sure getting hit often.
  17. MFS62 wrote: If the Mets pick up the option on Steve Traschell for 2006, is there a rule concerning the earliest they can trade him? (An NBA-type sign and trade deal) Newly signed FAs can't be traded until mid-season unless the player consents to waive that right (sign & trades don't exist in MLB). But the kink in the ointment here is that Trax becomes "10 & 5" if he re-ups here and therefore will have blanket no-trade protection both before and after that mid-season date. ]If the Mets don't pick up his option, can they still offer him arbitration? Yes, but that could be a more expensive way to go about things. As is, the option is for only something like $2.5mil (although I think there are complicated incentives that could drive it higher). Arb for him - even with the lost year - would automatically be pretty high just based on his service time alone. ]If not, and he becomes a free agent, when is the earliest they can re-sign him? It's not so much the earliest as the latest. Once the deadline passes for offering arb (early January?) you in effect give up any rights to him by not offering. This is to force teams to "declare" whether they want the player back and discourages them from cutting guys simply to try and drive his price down. If no arb is offered, his last team then can't sign him for the remainder of the winter and would have to wait to something like early May -- in other words, every other team would have to pass on him to the point where he'd still be unemployed a month into the season. I'm not sure this situation has happened since the collusion days. ]I think there's a two week window after the World Series when only they can sign him. Is this true? Yes. The open FA season doesn't begin until 2 weeks after baseball's season officially ends. Until then, a player can only talk money with his current team (although both sides certainly sniff around). ]If they don't sign him during that two week window, isn't there some rule that says they can't re-sign him until next Spring Training? No, he'll just a regular FA after those 2 weeks and all other clubs will have the same access to him as his current team. The restriction on his current team doesn't come until that arb cut-off date mentioned above.
  18. Am I supposed to know who the chick is - Toni (Tony?, Tone?) Roberts - on those Las Vegas radio commercials that are running endlesslyduring Met games? She comes on like her name is common knowledge but I have no idea who she is except that she sounds like Melanie Griffith ... which isn't really a good thing either. Griffith may be the worst "big name" actress in the business and this one sounds like she's reading cue cards just like MG does.

  20. "I'm gonna say this to everyone I see today."Pennsylvania man found brutally beaten; police search for a motive.

  23. Yes I believe that Valent is still on the 40. He was exposed to waivers when he was sent down but he wasn't picked up. And Valent/Calloway, Calloway/Valent ... is there really that big a difference?Point is that Calloway has at least as much ML experience as Valent and with the possibility of Cliff getting hurt, Cameron getting traded, or Diaz falling on his face, there was certainly no harm in keeping Calloway around (AAA is filled with one-time MLers like him). And again, I don't think there's been anyone whose ML callup has been delayed due to him staying on the 40-man.
  24. "What I don't get is replacing DeFelice with Castro. Why take a bat off the bench?"DeFelice was pnich-hit for and had to be replaced.
  25. Once you get to the 9th inning at home there's no longer going to be a save situation. So, unless you're under the impression that one of these call-ups is less likely than our supposed best reliever to give up a run, then you're decreasing the odds of coming back by bringing in someone other than Looper.
