  1. On the AL front: Devil-Dogs score 4 times in the 1st against Jaret wright and lead by that score in the 4th. Yanx w/no hits thru 3 off something named Waechter. Sheffield left the game early w/some unexplained leg injury. Oakland scored [u:adb65eff0e]5 times in the 9th[/u:adb65eff0e] to beat Seattle 8-7. Nick Swisher gets the "walk-off walk" off Jeff Nelson the 7th Mariner pitcher of the day Boston tallies 3 in the 3rd to take a 4-3 lead over Anaheim Cleveland leading Detroit 3-1
  2. From what I gathered from various print & radio snippets: - Giles suprised even his coach by blowing around 3rd, it's not like that was a set play - Reyes, as I suspected, did NOT rotate toward 3rd (acc to wwsb). That means all Pedro could have done is looked his way and hope that the glance would stop his charge because they was no way to throw behind him - Willie reiterated that Castro is sometimes not as assertive as he could be ... maybe from still having a backup's mentality Willie also said that Kaz claimed to have lost the handle on the ball on that potential GiDP
  3. Catchers - Huber, Hundley 3B - Wright, Alfonzo, Huskey? SS - Reyes, Ordonez OF - Escobar, Preston Wilson, Payton, Burnitz RHP - Paul Wilson, Heilman, Grant Roberts, Pat Strange, Anthony Young LHP - Pulsipher, Kazmir (although you said only one lefty I think both Pulse & Kaz were - did you count one as a RHP?) 3-timers: Escobar, Hundley, Peston Wilson #1 bonus: hmmm, not sure
  4. Officially nobody's moved anywhere and until we actually waste several months arguing over the 2005 rankings it's unknown exactly where these guys will wind up, nor do they ever really occupy a place in between. What Edgy is doing is something along the lines of concocting an in-season ranking as well as either using an ongoing win total or projecting a final total Having said that, Piazza's spot is pretty much sewn up. There's almost no chance that he winds up anywhere other than the #5 spot as mentioned. And even if he stays here and plays another year or two he'll probably stay at #5 unless he defies the odds and the gods (and Bret S. of course) and somehow retuns to superstardom level again.
  5. Edgy DC wrote: As of today, Cliff is the 58th most accomplished Met of all time, Crane Pool-style. He is 84 points behind Bret Saberhagen (57) and 28 ahead of Jack Fisher (59). There is a big gap between Saberhagen and Turk Wendell (56) and Floyd projects to land in that gap and finish the season behind the Turkster as ALL-TIME MET 57. What do you do, update this stuff daily? Ignoring for a second that much of the Met populace regards McReynolds as slightly lower than Joe Foy, Cleon did spend 12 seasons as a Met (about 9 or 10 full ones) to only about half that for K-Mac.
  6. Opinion: Gooden also may have surpassed Alexander in substance abuse - which was a pretty tough task from what I know about G.C.A. Fact: Met #1 overall draft pick Steve Chilcott was one of only two #1 draft picks never to make the major leagues..
  7. Well you're gonna hate it even more now: Including Tuesday's games: Division = .712% Wild Card = 7.801% Total = 8.513%
  8. What I'm not sure about on that play is whether Reyes was covering 3rd (as he should have been). If not then there would have been little for Pedro to do even if he did realize that Giles was coming except maybe freeze him and lose the out at 1st. Because Wright was charging the slow roller and had his back to the play, there was nothing stopping Giles from not makng his huge turn. If Reyes covers 3rd then a warning would have hung Giles out to dry but it's unclear whether Castro said anything. One of the announcers mentioned the other day that Willie (talking about some unrelated topic)thinks Castro isn't assertive enough at times and Trax claims that no word came from him on that bunt/pop-up the previous night.
  9. This is just phuking phrustrating. Every one of these recent losses (except the last Pedro start a week ago) is by 1 or 2 runs. A hit here or a hit there ...
  10. The difference in this game is in grounders, mainly in DPs turned and DPs not turned.
  11. You forgot about it because it was never really a trend, merely a coincidence, and it did what coincidences normally do, it went away.
  12. The caller in this case certainly sounded sincere and it's not like he offered any info that Rocky was in trouble, only that he couldn't reach him and started to wonder. He just brought it up to the radio station in case they might hear something.
  13. Pittsburgh is Art Howe's home town. Hmmmmm.
  14. More Beatles: I carry myself in a masculine way to stop the fans from wondering if I am gaaaaaaaaay
  15. Well you can't find anything about it because it's not a news story. All that has "happened" so far is that a caller to WFAN who claimed to know Swoboda said he couldn't reach him or the TV station he does work for, neither of which seems all that surprising considering the state of phone service and business shutdowns at the moment plus the fact that most people who lived in N.O. got the hell out of there. 'Not being able to reach' and 'missing' aren't necc the same thing.
  16. The results of Monday's games drops us to: 1.63% (division) + 10.44% (WC) = 12.07% shot of the playoffs. Also the Cards become the first team to hit the 100% mark; they're listed at 99.9991% to win their division and have the remaining 0.0009% chance at the WC if they happen to collapse in the Central.
  17. "I think we under-rate starting pitching a little and relief pitching more than a little."Well, that's why we'll look at things subjectively when it comes time to rate the entire year.In any case, I'd be surprised if Wright/Floyd/Pedro (in one order or another) don't wind up as the top 3 as they are in the PotG.
  18. ]Sending Diaz was a good movie, too. Was it as good as 'Educating Rita', 'Finding Nemo', or 'Eating Raul'?
  19. 'Funk' is this case is/was Taguchi's slower than slow changeup which is the "different look" that made him Willie's choice to pitch there in the first place. His fastball - the one that Cabrera hit - is nothing special. Problem was that he had missed with his previous change or two and got behind. So I guess Willie wanted Taguchi to bring on da funk but not bring in da noise.
  20. Cliff leaves 2 on after a bunch of loud fouls. 70 pitches for Thomson thru 3.
  21. Inning 1: Reyes - 1B & SB Matsui - GO moves Reyes Beltran - 2B to RF Floyd - FO Wright - FO Furcal - chopper back to the mound Giles - 2B CJones - RBI 2B AJones - GO (nice play by Wright) Hollandsworth - BB Francoeur - GO Both pitchers were made to work in the 1st. Thomson (29) & Trax (28) both threw a buncha pitches.
  22. ]And indeed, we moved up a bit, going to a 1.30613% for the division, 7.51038% for the wild card and 8.81650 overall. Those were the odds before Sunday's games were counted. Now it's up to: 2.79% for the division and 12.21% for the WC, or 15..00% shot at post-season all together. ]Washington was (as of the start of yesterday) and is ahead of us by half a game. Yes, but behind us in this particular playoff odds chart. That's where the RS/RA ratio comes in; this method figures the Mets to win more from here on out than the Nats because our run differential is considerably better.
  23. The recent losing stretch dropped us to less than a 9% chance of making the playoffs: 1.3% shot at winning the division, 7.5% of the WC, according to the 'Baseball Prospectus' odds chart. Philly - 38.5%, Houston - 31.1%, & Florida - 22.75% were considerably ahead. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/ps_odds.php At one point last week we were up in the mid-30s pct range but things are going to change more rapidly now as the time to make up for lost ground dwindles. Sunday's games - where our win combined with all except Washington (and they're behind us anyway) losing - should improve matters when they get around to updating the info.
  24. Seo - 4.4 Floyd - 2.0 Matsui - 1.8 Wright - 0.6 Beltran - 0.5 Diaz - 0.5 Hernandez - 0.1 Looper - 0.1
  25. Uno - Two - Tres for JWS in the 3rd
