  1. Rays walk-off Brewers with 2-out in the 9th with a runner scoring from 1st on a single.
  2. Not as bad as Thursday's game, but this one is also headed over three hours (2:12 thru 6, although could be saved by no bottom 9th). But there are still three innings to go and four runs is certainly not an insurmountable lead.
  3. A final pitching autopsy on this game - 425 pitches thrown: 213 total/134 strikes by Oakland, 212/110 by NY - each of the five NYM relievers was credited with one inning pitched and every one of them needed at least 20 pitches [27, 24, 25, 24, 20] - 32 combined swing-and-misses [7.5%] or about one pitch in 14. There was a time when that was considered normal but not today. Gary kept talking about the number of pitches fouled off

And you wanted the whole roster released yesterday. HAH! After that game I wanted each position player released and each pitcher released twice just in case there were any clerical errors the first time.

  6. A GiDP not turned yesterday cracked open the deluge from which we never recovered. A smaller deficit here, but we don't hit bullpens lately.

  8. Building off that call at the plate where the HP ump signaled safe even though the runner never touched the plate, this HP ump Didn't make a safe sign, or sign of any kind, following Nimmo's slide implying that he never touched. What's going on here?
  9. I'd test the pitcher for too much stick'um after that throw.
  10. Not just a 1st inning walk but a leadoff 1st inning walk. And not just a leadoff walk but an 11-pitch leadoff walk. I've seen this movie before.
  11. Weekend match ups: - Nats @ Phillies - Snakes @ Rays - Padres @ Rockies - Braves @ Angels And for those teams on our tail rather than our front - SFG (-1.5 behind NYM) are oddly off tonight as they get a two-game Bay Area series v Oakland - StL (-2.0) host the Dodgers - Reds (-2.0) host the Royals
  12. After yesterday's game I was hoping to check in here and see that they released the entire ML roster.

The other thing about the C.D.P. is that my grandfather may hold the all-time record for letters to the editor published in that particular broadsheet. IIRC the paper even noted his frequent missives in his obituary notice. Papa was a good writer and a mighty opinionated guy who lived in that area from the early-'60s until his death in 1991 at age 92. iow, right in the sweet spot of one's curmudgeon years.
  14. Just finished watching via delay and even with FF'ing through the commercials the game took over 3 hours. Even if they came back to win that one they should have been forced to give it back. They didn't deserve it.
  15. Padres & Dbacks won earlier today. Braves just underway in SF Jazz Chisholm to the IL for Yanx and possibly to surgery (non-throwing elbow) though the knife part is still TBD ChiSox lead Yanx 2-1 thu 6 tonight but I have little cahnfidence that score will hold. All five NYY runs between yesterday (two solos plus a 2R) and so far today (1 solo) are via Juan Soto HRs
  16. With all due respect to Mike Cam, I don't think the problem with the modern in-stadium experience is a dearth of scoreboard driven cheering encouragement.

  18. I was less sure on that send [Nimmo's Sac Fly] but the throw was weak so the Mets probably knew that while I didn't.
  19. I thought Lindor's hit was down all the way; a better read on it by Gamel would have been two runs ... and now it is anyway.

  21. Peterson says 'I coulda done that!'
  22. Edgy MD wrote: Bad send gets Gamel pegged at the plate, but it's cool to seem Mike Cameron watch his son make the play. There were two outs, I had no problem with the send. You usually want to send everyone.
  23. Late night stuff of interest from the left coast Tuesday (and none of it good): - DBacks beat Colorado 4-3; Second straight win for ARZ, both by one run - Padres win second straight over Pirates; 2-1 and 3-0 - Braves over Giants 4-3 in 10; also a second straight win, both in 10 innings So not only are we sucking at the moment but no one else is cooperating.
  24. =Gwreck post_id=166288 time=1723600879 user_id=56] A 3 run inning is a good inning, even if it could (should) have been better.
  25. Two hits and a walk vs four Oakland pitchers across four innings. So the offense has had one good inning but only if you want to put the tag of 'good' on an inning where you go 0/3 starting with two on, none out, and a 3-0 count.
