  1. Following the GiDP can we avoid giving up more run(s) after two outs no one on???? .... Nope Double - Walk - RBI Single - and more?
  2. Kris Bryant in the midst of his third season w/the Rox: 42, 80 & 32 (and counting) games played. All of which adds up to just about one full season played [154 Games, 650 PA] And the results -- playing half the time in Coors! -- is a combined 716 / 90 OPS/OPS+ His Chicago (and 1/2 season in SF) years produced a 880 / 132 OPS/OPS+ over seven seasons. And he's still only 32 y/o
  3. All Rox runs tonight scored either via NYM errors or after there were two outs.
  4. We now have White Sox news, in-game comments, and out of town scores all in last week's TWiB Notes thread. It's this kind of sloppy posting that is keeping us out of the WC position.
  5. Winker gets quickly on board with the team edict of no hits w/RiSP
  6. The ChiSox are currently on pace to go 38 - 124 this season (.234)
  7. Benjamin Grimm wrote: The White Sox have now lost 21 consecutive games. This ties the season-opening streak that the Orioles suffered through in 1988. In modern (since 1900) history, only one team has had a longer losing streak; the 1961 Phillies lost 23 in a row. Those '88 O's, who were already on their second manager before the streak was even half over, ended the streak with a 9-0 win against ... the White Sox. They then dropped to next two games in that series. From 0-21 they went on to go 54 - 86 (.388) to finish at 54 - 107 (.335) The '61 Phils won the back half of a DH on July 28th. Prior to that they had lost five straight and were already 29-59 before that mini-streak started. They didn't win again until Game 2 of a DH on August 20, so that's 23 straight (and 28 of 29) between DH splits including three DH sweeps in between. They went on to record a 47-107-1 record (.305) in the final year of the 154 game season.
  8. I read it too. Thought it was good, but, yeah, maybe not great. The book and the docu had virtually the same title, but there's no credit that I can find showing that the author had any input into the film.
  9. Just finished watching it last night. It ends with Rose claiming he quit gambling six months ago (not clear specifically when he said that). But,as one of the Cincy area writers said, 'If there's a Liar's HoF Rose would have been in years ago', so there's little reason to believe that his claim is anything more than just one last shot (he'll turn 84 next April) at reinstatement and then possible HoF induction (two different things). Mostly he and the whole sordid story come off as just sad. Living out in Vegas because -- well first because it is/was the best access to sports gambling -- but also because it's where he can make the most money from card shows, ball/memorabilia signings, and video birthday recordings, most of them seemingly for men not much younger than him. And while it's hard to tell, you wonder to what extent he needs the money.
  10. 'Oh Huascar, Huascar, Huascar'! Huascar: 'I know, I know, I know'
  11. Gleyber Torres (once again) loafed to 1st, this time turning a shot off the wall into a single. He then got thrown out at the plate to end the inning on a subsequent double. The only difference this time is that Boone pulled him from the game.
  12. I think Spotrac, whoever that is, is way off, unless perhaps those numbers were calculated prior to the 2024 season. I would be very surprised if he got anything close to that. And even if that $32.9 number is in the ballpark of where his Current value is, that doesn't mean it's a smart idea to simply take that and multiply it by eight for Pete to sign on the bottom line. My guess is that the Mets will look to go much shorter term. That starts with the one-year Qualifying Offer and from there discuss three to four years. Boras isn't going to like that but if I'm Stearns/Cohen I'm daring some team to offer Pete five-plus and would be willing to wave bye-bye if one did.
  13. Marlon's clearly safe there, I don't know what Molina thought he saw. But even a halfway decent relay has him out by ten feet which, considering it was maybe a 100ft throw, made it a terrible peg.
  14. And yet they're still in last place in the AL West and 20 games under .500
  15. Mike Trout shut down for the season. Games played since 2021: 36, 119, 82, 29, or about 41% of Angels games. The last time he played 150+ games was 2016
  16. ARZ 17 8 0.680 NYM 17 10 0.630 OAK 15 9 0.625 PIT 15 10 0.600 SDP 13 9 0.591 KCR 13 10 0.565 DET 14 11 0.560 HOU 14 11 0.560 TEX 14 11 0.560 BOS 13 11 0.542 TBR 13 11 0.542 CHC 13 11 0.542 MIN 12 11 0.522 CLE 13 12 0.520 STL 13 12 0.520 CIN 13 12 0.520 SFG 13 12 0.520 BAL 12 13 0.480 ATL 12 13 0.480 NYY 11 13 0.458 MIL 11 13 0.458 LAD 11 13 0.458 LAA 11 14 0.440 COL 11 15 0.423 SEA 10 14 0.417 PHI 10 14 0.417 MIA 10 14 0.417 WSN 10 16 0.385 CHW 3 22 0.120 So the second best record for the month and tied for most wins. Also played more games than anyone, at least one more than every other team and as many as five more (SDP) which is kind of odd. 27 games is a lot in a month with the ASB in the middle.
  17. I'll take a 39 rarity score for today's grid. It's just that 23 of that came on my final pick.
  18. Some rough days ahead for those who like to view their baseball in real time. Most are too late, some are too early, with very few just right. After the day off on Thursday Friday - Anaheim 9:38 Saturday - Anaheim 9:38 (grrrrr) Sunday - Anaheim 4:07 Monday - St Louis 5:15 Tuesday - Colorado 8:40 Wednesday - Colorado 8:40 Thursday - Colorado 3:10 Friday - Seattle - 10:10 Saturday - Seattle 9:40 (grrrr) Sunday - Seattle 7:10* Monday - Off * I bet the Mets are thrilled to close out an eleven game/four city/four time-zone shifting road trip with an ESPN-scheduled night game ahead of a west-to-east, time-losing, cross-country flight
  19. We're still just two three-run homers away from tying the game.
  20. I wonder if Huascar ever pitched to anyone named Felix?
  21. Only two three-run HRs away from tying the game!!
  22. Pre-season #1 prospect Jackson Holliday recalled by the Orioles. He hopes to improve on his two week stint earlier in the year. He almost can't NOT improve [2-for-34 w/18 Ks].
  23. Well that fell apart quickly. Five batters faced, five runs scored in the 3rd.
  24. And if you're not gaining ground then you're losing it. Tuesday's NYM win kept them from losing ground to: ATL - who were 5-1 winners in Milwaukee StL - 8-1 over Texas ARZ - they dispensed with the late inning drama this time and knocked off the Nats 17-0 PIT - 6-2 for their second straight win over Houston SDP - scored twice in the 9th then once more in the 10th for a walk-off vs LAD Among NL WC contenders only the Giants lost. Also the Phils dropped their second straight so the NL East tightened up a bit. Mets now 8 games behind the Phils which sounds like a lot (and it is) but less so when you consider they were 17.5 out on June 11 So the Mets gained 9.5 on the Phils since 6/11, 7.0 on the Braves, and went from 2.5 behind WAS to 8.5 ahead
