  1. Braves 3B Austin Riley out 'six to eight weeks' with a broken hand from a HBP during Sunday's game in Anaheim. So that's essentially the regular season (and more?) including a late September series vs the Mets which could be meaningful. He's been down somewhat this year compared to his three straight Top-7 MVP seasons but still good on both sides of the ball. So Riley now joins Albies and Acuna on the shelf.
  2. Orioles lead MLB in HRs (even with Camden Yards no longer being the HR paradise it's been since its inception), are 3rd in RS/G, 2nd in OPS and tops in OPS+, and, unlike the Yanx who lead in OPS, their's is spread around more evenly. So that's a pretty tough two thru six in their lineup: Rutschman (118 OPS+), Henderson (167), Santander (136), Mountcastle (110), Jimenez (154 tho in limited playing time) and then there's Jackson Holliday batting 9th with a mere 624 OPS but 869 in 67 PA since his recall. And yet they're under .500 since July 8th [16 - 19]
  3. One 8-9-4-2 DP was enough for one game.
  4. The Mets have 8 successful sac bunts this season which is only slightly more than half the league avg (13.7) and only Philly (7) has fewer, so I don't think bunting is part of any kind of organizational strategy and if it were, believe me, I'd join you in the criticism. The bifl comment by KC above stands for 'Bunting is for Losers' and it's a longtime mantra on this board harkening back to the Willie Randolph Jerry Manual days when the knee-jerk reaction to getting leadoff runners on was to sac bunt because that was they way it was played in their day, particularly if you were a skinny infielder. I'm just saying that for all the reasons previous listed I think the bunt strategy a was defendable one rather than a hanging offense. And had JMcN hit into a GiDP and killed any comeback that way I wouldn't be calling for Mendoza's head for not bunting. Two Ks sandwiched around a 400 ft out just wasn't enough and it's not like this team hasn't found a myriad of ways NOT to score starting with two on and none out all season long.
  5. One more thing on the run expectancy numbers: 12 no outs has a run expectancy of 1.561, 23 1 out, 1.449. Remember that those figures are averages and one reason why the NON-bunt route is higher is that by not ceding an out (bunting) you increase the chances of a 'Big' inning [three, four, five runs or more] so those numbers are baked into the higher figure. But runs #3 and beyond are meaningless to the team in this particular case so if those three-and-up numbers were taken out of the calculations then the already low to begin with edge in not bunting (0.112 avg R) would be smaller still and would probably favor the sac bunt.
  6. Yanx score once in top 10, Tigers score twice!!!! [single, SB, single] 3-2 is your final. Tigers win, THAAAAA Tigers win!!
  7. Tigers tie it up with a 2-out 9th inning single ... and they're going to 10 and the clown car rules.

That's not 'business as usual' but it's certainly an example of the team inventing new and unique ways to not score.
  9. =SteveCohenStan post_id=166859 time=1724027396 user_id=165]You're slightly more likely to score 1
  10. Yanx lead Tigers 1-0 thru 7 in a tight well played game with several good plays. ESPN, the sole outlet for this game, has shown bits and pieces of it.
  11. That was actually one of the situations where bunting was a reasonable option. You want two runs there but you NEED one so a bunt puts both in scoring position, eliminates the traditional GiDP, and forces Miami to bring the infield in for at least one hitter and maybe two. If successful (and assuming the pre-determined outcome) Lindor's FO easily ties the game and puts the winning run 90 ft away. The problem was in the execution, not the decision to try.
  12. =whippoorwill post_id=166804 time=1724003074 user_id=79] Tonight's MLB players are arriving. Tigers were mobbed; Yankees damn near starting a riot Lolol
  13. 14. O's score a lot but their pitching isn't holding up their end, mostly because of multiple guys on the IL Trevor Rogers was their big deadline pickup as they attempt to remedy that issue.
  15. Braves up 3-1 in bottom 8 out in Disneyland Halos get the leadoff batter on. ... and then they never get another ball out of the infield for the rest of the game.
  16. I blame them for starting the inning with two on and none out. How many times have I said that it just kills their run production when that happens.
  17. So these early Sunday games are available ONLY on Roku, rather than Roku for the wider MLB world but still local for the teams involved? And while I do have access to Roku, I'm not going to be around at game time and I suspect there's no way to view the game via delay.
  18. Daddy, what does CG in the box score mean? * not that I think kids know what a box score is
  19. I'd still like another run or three here in bottom 8

  22. 5th inning: Picketus Fencus Interruptus

An interesting event on Friday night for a trio of rookies -- starting to be referred to as the 'Jackson 3' -- each hit a triple. That would be OFs Jackson Merrill (SDP) and Jackson Chourio (MIL), plus SS Jackson Holliday (BAL) Beyond that, pre-season #1 prospect Jackson Holliday, though still carrying around the anchor of his 2-for-34 start, has a 940 OPS since his recall Pre-season #2 prospect Jackson Chourio has played almost every game this season and boasts a 763 OPS/110 OPS+ Jackson Merrill, also a full time player, is 808/125 Merrill is 21 and neither Holliday or Chourio get to that mark until December and next March
  24. Chicks dig the stand-up triple.
  25. Gained on everyone in front of us except Phils - and I suppose we should include the Dodgers in there since they might wind up in the WC scrum at some point. But ARZ, SDP, and ATL lost so a good night all around.
