  1. Fla/Atl = 14-14 in the 9th
  2. A bit hairy, but not too bad overall.
  3. Got the ERA down below infinity
  4. Your last setence is a key; "all this crap is slowing down his timeline to get into the Majors and get his arb elligible years ticking". His seemingly obsessive fighting for extra up-front money doesn't always work out best for the client in the long run. BP's Kevin Goldstein gave a nice review of past Boras battles last week.
  5. Santana - 3.6 Delgado - 2.4 Smith - 0.4 Ayala - 0.5 Feliciano - 0.2 Figeroa - 0.5 Murphy - 0.7 Beltran - 1.1 Church - 0.6
  6. - Yanx managed to take their 11-2 lead and hold on for a 13-9 win ... but Boston's Monday night win still drops the tragic number (tragic for them not me) to 19 - BP's playoff odds report drops them to [u:0ddd141fb7]under 1%[/u:0ddd141fb7] chance of reaching post-season (0.88%) - Mike Francesa pronounces them "Done"
  7. The problem with Gomez isn't just the OBP but that he needs all those infield hits and bunts just to get it to that point - and that there's almost no power to go along with it. There's potential there and it's certainly not too late, but I was never w/those Met fans who seemed to be going overboard over him last year while trashing Milledge in the process. I'd still bet on Lastings in the long run (who's only 7 months older). "Guerra was the most highly rated prospect of the four" Well, sort of. Highest potential ceiling maybe, but he was/is so young, so raw, and so far from the majors that he'd win most votes in all categories from best future career to most likely to flame out at an early age and anywhere in between. 'Most Intriguing' prospect is probably the better term but, yeah, he didn't exactly take a step forward this year. Humber finished up the year better than he started, but he's also about to turn 26 so that clock is ticking. Mid/back of the rotation is probably the best guess for Mulvey. Like the deal then, still like it now.
  8. VERY nice win. Lots o' suds for Johan & Carlos and then divvy up a case among a whole ton of relievers.
  9. "For as much as we piss and moan about the pen, that eighth was a thing of beauty." Yes it was, which is why giving away outs at the top of the order while trying to pad the lead is so fuckin' frustrating!!!!
  10. 2 relief IPs, 3 pitchers, 7 batters, 1 hit. So far so good. Only 1 inning to go ... and how much trouble can they get into in one measley inning?
  11. Sticking w/Figgy ... and why not? He only threw about 10 pitches in the 7th.
  12. No hits off Redding yet either. Yanx hang on to a 13-9 win. I'll have to check exactly but I think each side used 17 pitchers.
  13. Ba de ya - say do you remember Ba de ya - dancing in September Ba de ya - never was a cloudy day
  14. To steal one of Keith Olberman's schticks, our problems so far today: Worst (tie): Murphy's 1st inning bunt & Reyes's steal attempt Worster: Wright 1-out/runners-on K Worstest: Santana's balk
  15. Yost's Riske move comes back to bite him in the form of back-to-back walks.
  16. Nymr83 wrote: What happened to Sheets???? Tightness in his groin ... meaning he either needs therapy or looser shorts
  17. - Yanx jump out to an 8-1 lead but are now hanging on to a 11-8 edge thru 5 (they're in the same half-inning as our game despite starting an hour earlier) - Fish & Braves tied at 3 in the 9th - Nats put up a 2-spot in the 1st against Kendrick and the Phils
  18. Charles Newtown in to pitch for Milwaukee (Carlos Villanueva)
  19. I thought Yost's comments were a bit over the top too but, yeah, it's not like he devoted any effort to it other than 10 or 15 minutes after yesterday's game during the Q & A
  20. That was a do-or-die play on a high-chooper to Reyes ... he didn't exactly 'boot' it. And if it was one of those days the breaks just shifted in our favor as Sheets is mysteriously PH'ed-for in the 5th despite cruising right along.
  21. Good news: 7 of the 11 games are taking advantage of the holiday and playing in the afternoon Night games being played in Texas (heat); LA Dodgers (those SoCal teams always play at night); plus Boston & Cleveland (shame on them) Bad News: 11 games means that 8 teams aren't playing at all - and it would have been 10 but one game (NYY-Det) is a rain makeup Of particular interest: Phils & Washington: 3:05 -- & -- Braves & Marlins: 1:05 Already in progress: Justin Verlander earning his reputation on the 'Sucks' list by coughing up 7 runs to the Yanx before getting 6 outs
  22. Beltran - 1.2 Church - 0.6 Easley - 0.8 Evans - 1.3 Feliciano - 0.1 Hailman - 0.1 Martinez - 3.1 Reyes - 1.0 Schoeneweis - 0.1 Smith - 0.1 Stokes - 0.2 Wright - 1.4
  23. Castillo - 1.0 Murphy - 0.75 Pelfrey - 3.0 Reyes - 1.0 Stokes - 0.25 Wright - 2.0
  24. Thome's been a full-time DH for 3 years now (since his trade to Chicago) but I don't know that there's any reason why he couldn't play the field if the DH didn't exist. I mean I'm all for killing that rule but I'm not going to take anything away from Thome just because of it. If Mantle had taken better care of himself maybe he would have lasted a while longer and made himself tougher to catch.
  25. The 2005 draft is turning into a nice haul - even though we had no 2nd or 3rd rounders that year 1st rounder Pelfrey is now joined by the 7th round pick Niese, and Parnell from the 9th
