  1. What Morgan, Miller & Gammons were talking about during the game is also what Minaya was having a mini-Q & A w/reporters before the game. I only caught a piece of it on the radio. Basically he felt pain again during his simulated inning between games and will see the docs tomorrow. From Rubin's blog: All-Star closer Billy Wagner just cut short a simulated game after about a dozen pitches because of what GM Omar Minaya called discomfort in his left elbow. Wagner ... will consult with team doctors once again Monday in Manhattan.
  2. I'm not sure Delgado would hit Dorothy Hammels this hard!
  3. Give Morgan some credit here, he's all over this Hamels/Delgado battle.
  4. metirish wrote: Morgan said Hamels pinch hit against the Mets last week , I remember Myers doing it but not Hamels. That might only mean I have a crap memory. Hamels did too - in that extra inning game. He's actually a good hitter. It was Myers they had not swing just so there was no chance he'd hit into a DP.
  5. Tragic number = 12 Y'know what might be the funniest thing is that the Yanx high-lights aren't even getting on ESPN these days. If the show starts to run low on time theirs is one of the games getting skipped along with the other bottom feeders.
  6. You're not all RATTLED or anything are you now Mr. Hamels?
  7. WOW! Breaks definitely going our way so far.
  8. Yo, nice play Cano ... er, I mean Utley.
  9. Nice of ESPN to end their football round table a good 15, or maybe 20 seconds prior to 1st pitch. I was beginning to think they were going to confine the game to a small box in the corner while the main screen showed 3 more hours of Berman and the other lunkheads crying over the Tom Brady highlights and jerking off to the Brett Favre ones. OK, I'm done ranting now. Wright was lucky as hell on the call at 3rd but that play also set up the rest of the inning with Beltran following and all. I think Charlie M. was pissed off on the catcher-interference play because he thought the ump got talked into by Wright. Def the correct call though.
  10. Go throw that bait at somebody stupid enough to take it.
  11. Not to be confused with Pedro's older brother who is retired at the present moment and you could look it up. This one split the 2008 season between Las Vegas (LAD system) and New Orleans and was called up with the rest of the horde last week. He'll be the logical replacement if/when they want to give Reyes a rest.
  12. The real heavy stuff started falling right about at what would have been first pitch. Nice that they actually made the smart call by canning the game early this AM. Dodgers/Snakes game being show instead. The tennis found an interesting way to deal with the weather. The mens' semis were supposed to be consecutive, around 11AM and then about 2PM. But instead they used seperate courts to run them concurrently (with about a one hour stagger) in order to beat the rain. It actually kind of sucks for those who bought tickets expecting to see both matches. I guess you got your choice of either/or but I doubt they worked any refund into that. CBS then maintained a news blackout on the 2nd semi while they were showing the first so they could then show #2 right afterward under the "plausibly live" method (to borrow Dick Ebersol's phrase from his Olympic telecasts). They didn't get the full 2nd semi in, but at least they don't have to start from scratch when they pick it up tomorrow. Guess they'll push the final to Monday. The women's final was to be a seperate admission deal at night and I assume they've already pushed that until tomorrow.
  13. Rained for a while overnight but now is just cloudy, humid and soupy. Sounds like it's going to be off and on for this afternoon eventually getting steadier, harder & windier as it gets later and into overnight. If this were a 1:00 game they might get it in but probably not with the 3:55 start. Leftover stuff Sunday morning but should be gone in time for the likely 1:00 / 8:00 DH What this is really going to screw up is the tennis. Saturday is their big day: both Men's semis then the women's final - all starting around 11 AM Good luck with that!
  14. He's really only missing one game here seeing as how both Saturday's & Sunday's games are network jobs. And, yes, there is a stipulation that he spend X number of days per year in Florida in order to claim tax-exempt residency there. But between the off-season, Spring training, and road games @ Marlins I think that takes care of most of it and he's probably just spending the weekend slumming on the east end.
  15. Pelfrey - 4.0 Murphy - 1.8 Stokes - 0.3 Rincon - 0.2 Sanchez - 0.1 Wright - 0.4 Delgado - 0.3 Beltran - 0.4
  16. Eh, not to worry, it's not like that was Brandon Morrow's 1st ML start or anything ... oh wait, it was! Tragic number for WC down to 14 BP playoff odds down to 0.268% - and actually below that of Toronto The 7 games the NYY have coming up against Angels and ChiSox probably has a lot to do with that.
  17. Ianniciello is tickets and related stuff.
  18. I don't think anything has been decided or "leaked". To me this sounds like Adam speculating on the outcome of the Murphy to 2nd in the AZL experiment. It's a logical speculation, but it's not like things have been set on an irreverible course here. If transitioning to a middle infield position were easy half the league would be doing it.
  19. The DH. Not only is it the one thing I most want to see gone but it's the one thing that the people within baseball have the power to affect. Beyond that, I think the next biggest problem is the pacing of these games. There's nothing wrong with a 3 hour game but 3 hours shouldn't be the average with 3:20 games being as common as 2:30. And it only gets worse in the post-season which, when combined with the later start times, makes them that much tougher to follow. Want to know where your TV has gone Bud? There are a myriad of factors which contribute to this so it's not an easy thing to fix, but I feel it's like the solution to our energy situation in this country: TRY EVERYTHING! Game Times: 1969 World Series: 2:13; 2:20; 2:23; 2:33 (10 innings); 2:14 5 games = 11 hours - 43 minutes 2007 WS: 3:30; 3:39 (2-1 game, 8-1/2 innings); 4:19; 3:35 4 games = 15 hours - 3 minutes

In the early decades of the 1900s they used to never make up rainouts and league championships were often decided by narrow margins between teams playing differing number of games.
  21. Valadius wrote: If there's one thing about MLB that bothers me, it's that they don't force teams to play all 162 games. ?!!? There are 2,430 scheduled MLB games each season and I'd be surprised if they don't average at least 2,425 played each year - and the few that don't get played are usually late-season wash-outs where there's no time (and no reason) to re-sked.
  22. Those were the stats [u:cd886e9148]Pre[/u:cd886e9148] last night's loss. NYY post-season odds now down at 0.75%
  23. A larger pct of games are going to be in prime time anyway on account of the extra days off which they built in for TV purposes starting last year. That said, I HATE those extra off days - and it really bit them in the ass last year when only 2 series of the possible 7 went beyond the minimum leaving lots of holes in the sked.
  24. I can't imaging that the PCL would approve of that. Think of the travel. Atlanta is one of the few teams that actually owns their AAA team and they announced months ago that they're abandoning Richmond, VA and moving the team to ... Atlanta! A suburban county near Atlanta actually some 20-30 miles outside of town.
  25. Desperate times; Girardi pulled his starter (Rasner) with just one out in the 2nd (3 runs in and 2 on). Some pitcher wearing #91 is now in. You're playing in the state of Florida and there are quick hooks and high numbers on guys you've never heard of ... It's Spring Training!!
