  1. I thought Reyes might start instead of Cora since he hasn't had a day off since his return. Maybe tomorrow. Other than that the lineup is as expected against the RHP.
  2. it's an orangy sky always it's some other guy it's just a broken lullaby
  3. Pelfrey - 1.5 Sheffield - 1.5 Misch - 0.25
  4. Nymr83 wrote: why is CC allowed to delay the game ten minutes to bitch about the mound? what if the Mets' pitchers like it the way it was? are we going to wait to change it back and forth every inning? Because he's used to pitching at Yanqui Stadium where everything is perfect all the time.
  5. No way do the Yanx dominate a game like this without Jeter Oh wait!
  6. Phils lose, Braves lose, Marlins losing w/2 out in the 9th
  7. Gwreck wrote: On that home run, Gary Cohen just referred to the right field corner as "Utley's Corner." Seriously? WTF? There was a "study" on some fantasy site that listed the HRs that weren't at Citi that would have been at Shea (a bunch including 6 for Wright). And there were two HRs that would NOT have been at Shea but were at CF - both by Chase Utley.
  8. I have this fear of backup Yanqui catchers -- they're all like .210 hitters but somehow manage to hit around .460 when I'm watching. I swear whenever Posada sits and I'm watching the game their offense improves. oe: Hey, we got a fucking call!!!! on 2nd edit: today it's their backup SS
  9. Phils also down 4-0 (in the 5th) but Toronto probably had to earn theirs rather than have it handed to them on a fuckin' platter.
  10. The 1st base ump has called more strikes in the bottom half of innings tonight than the home plate ump has called in the top halves so far.
  11. This is a new twist, everyone except Castillo makes an error. The next hard hit ball the Yanx have will be their first.
  12. Several "regional" matchups going on in this final IL weekend of the season. AL leads 113-96 at this point and will almost certainly "win" the series for the 5th straight year. Cubs drew first blood in the all-Chicago series 5-4 this afternnon (Friday day game at Comiskey!) - Marlins @ Tampa (Johnson & Shields) - Ohio series Cincy @ Cleveland - and the 'Beltway' teams, Washington @ Baltimore and then there are those of particular interest to us: - Philly is at Toronto (Hamels v Romero) Rollins is apparently going to be benched for at least two games on account of he ain't hitting - Boston @ Atlanta (Becket v Jurrjens)
  13. Niese trying to get back on track -- "... in his four starts since June 7. ... Niese has allowed three runs in 26 1/3 innings, while striking out 25, walking seven and not allowing a single home run. He went a clean 2-0, 0.69 this week, giving up 12 hits to go with a sterling 14-to-3 strikeout-to-walk ratio " -- BA
  14. How about sounds of silence? And, no, I'm not talking about the Simon and Garfunkel song.
  15. Sheff returns, Church gets to roam CF but gets moved down vs the LHP, and Evans gets the nod over Murphy for the same reason Castillo, 2b Cora, ss Wright, 3b Sheffield, lf Tatis, rf Church, cf Evans, 1b Santos, c Pelfrey, rhp One downside for tonight: CC can hit
  16. ="Benjamin Grimm":3i0tzfg7]I was surprised, when I was in the UK, to see that highway (or motorway) distances were measured in miles and not kilometers. I guess it's the same way in Ireland? It does seem that in Europe the continent is more metric than the island nations.[/quote:3i0tzfg7] England was always non-metric, that's how we inherited that stupid system. Their big switch was changing to a metric money system a few decades back. Prior to that it had been 12 pence to a Shilling and nonsense like that.
  17. btw, all three games will be at night, and both Saturday's and Sunday's games will be available to even those out-of-towners w/o MLB's EI package. Saturday will be picked up by MLB Network for national distribution and Sunday will be ESPN's game of the week: aka the Stevie, Joe & Jon show
  18. They should do another montage of Michael hits. Only, you know, updated for the situation. - (He just) Beat It - Guess I Can Say Goodbye - I Won't Be There - The Thrill(er's) Gone ... OK, I know that's not his but we can do some covers too
  19. Yanx hang on ... but it was nice of Pettitte to make them run through most of their pen even after being handed a big lead -- and then having to go through a 4-hour game prior to their 800 mile trip on the eve of our series.
  20. Lowe vs Yanx: 3 IP, 8 Runs (6 earned), 11 hits, 3 BBs 8-3 NYY - end of 4 In DC, Smoltz debut not going well: 5 IP, 5 ER, 7 H -- including 4 in the 1st Nats lead 7-1 thru 6
  21. The game among various prospects which is played during the ML-ASG week. It's not really an All-Star game itself in that it's not necessarily based on who's having the best season. It's more like a showcase for those dubbed as potential future stars and rigged so that not only is each organization represented but also each of the full-season minor leagues. RHP Jenrry Mejia (AA - Eastern Lg) & SS Wilmer Flores (Low-A So Atlantic) represent the Mets system. Rosters[/url:1cjztcnf]
  22. Nieve - 3.5 Wright - 2.4 Evans - 1.5 Church - 2.0 Tatis - 0.6
  23. Santana - 4.5 Rodriguez - 0.8 Feliciano - 0.7 Evans - 2.0 Tatis - 1.0 Wright - 0.5 Castillo - 0.5
  24. ="John Cougar Lunchbucket"]]What's the most lopsided shutout? 16-0. A loss to the Braves at Shea on July 2, 1999. Masato Yoshii started for the Mets and Greg Maddux went for Atlanta. I remember this one. Ambler at the old mofo described this as "Hiroshima." Fascinating list by the way and thanks. That one-run games are more common than 2-run games probably says something about how 2-run leads are treated. IIRC, this one was also declared to be "all Bobby's fault" by several on that forum -- a conclusion I dubbed "stupidity cubed".
