  1. Gotta hold them here and hope the top of the lineup gets it done in the 9th Beltran & Wright can't suck all night, can they?
  2. Good news: Nats are leading the Yanx in the 9th Bad News: It's up to their bullpen
  3. I suppose that in a tie game you've got to look for every edge you can get ... but I thought that one smacked of desperation where it wasn't needed even before he did it and left him with little in reserve if/when things went wrong.
  4. That the switch didn't work is just an extra kick in the nads.
  5. I think Jerry's overdoing the switch thing here -- as Parnell was cruising along but gets pulled for a lefty/righty deal. Meanwhile we've still got this innings plus two more after this (and maybe extras) to cover and both Green & Rodriguez were heavily used last night.
  6. Y'mean Kobe Bryant isn't Japanese either?!?
  7. Sean Green -- Last 11 appearances: 12-1/3 IPs; 43 batters faced; 4 hits (3 singles + 1 double); 2 BBs; 9 Ks NYM 1Bs: --------------- AB -- H -- 2B -- HR -- RBI -- BA -- OBA -- SLG ---- Delgado - 94 -- 28 -- 7 -- 4 -- 23 -- .298 -- .393 -- .521 NOT Delgado - 139 - 31 - 5 -- 3 -- 17 -- .223 -- .326 -- .323

And that's kind of represents what Pelfrey is these days: good, but consistency or sustained goodness short of real good.
  9. And now it's 8-3 and I think we're safe on this one.
  10. 'bout time the Jays scored a run. They've had like 34 base-runners over the last 3 innings and have scored exactly twice (my count may be off a little).
  11. Pelfrey - 2.3 Green - 1.2 Felieciano - 0.5 Rodriguez - 0.7 Cora - 1.4 Schneider - 1.2 Wright - 1.1 FMartinez - 1.0 Church - 0.5
  12. Disappointing outing from Pelfrey overall. Cruised through the first 15 batters getting 14 of them out ... and then got only 2 of the next 9 hitters and his night was done. Nice job by Green settling things down after that and not making the game a 5 reliever affair.
  13. Jim Palmer is 64 years old and looks like he's been dipping into whatever stash Dick Clark kept around ... not to mention the stuff Keith uses.
  14. And the Jays tied up Phillie - albeit after getting only 1 run total after loading the bases in two consecutive innings.
  15. The worst part of this inning is bringing it around to the meat part of the order.
  16. Gwreck wrote: ="Frayed Knot"]I read about something else Rios did stupid just recently (forget the details). Talented guy but only occasionally matches up to what he seems like he could be. Caught on YouTube telling some fans who suggested that "nobody wanted his autograph anyway" to "go fuck yourself." That was it.
  17. Mel Hall always was a jackass. Didn't know he was a pervert too.
  18. Geez, the Jays load the bases w/one out in the 8th vs the Phils down by a run ... then get a long line-drive to the warning track but Alex Rios doesn't tag from 3rd!!!! Next guy up grounds out to end the inning and the Phils still lead. I read about something else Rios did stupid just recently (forget the details). Talented guy but only occasionally matches up to what he seems like he could be.
  19. Beat-up little seagull On a marble stair Tryin' to find the ocean Lookin' everywhere Hard times in the city In a hard town by the sea Ain't nowhere to run to There ain't nothin' here for free Hooker on the corner Waitin' for a train Drunk lyin' on the sidewalk Sleepin' in the rain And they hide their faces And they hide their eyes 'Cause the city's dyin' And they don't know why Oh Baltimore Man it's hard just to live Oh, Baltimore Man, it's hard just to live, just to live Get my sister Sandy And my little brother Ray Buy a big old wagon To haul us all away Live out in the country Where the mountain's high Never comin' back here 'Til the day I die Oh, Baltimore Man, it's hard just to live Oh, Baltimore Man, it's hard just to live, just to live -- Randy Newman Nice depressing little tune. Nils Lofgren did a version of it about a million years ago - long before hooking up with Bruce.
  20. A game is a distinct unit with a distinct value within the season, so I think it's important to maintain the same value in points. I know folks disagree, but I think it's sound mathematical thinking. Sound only if one confuses the terms 'distinct' with 'equal'.
  21. ] I think that it's ridiculous that this is a big story. ... To me, it's over with, and hopefully for him, it's over with. I don't think either of us are worried about it." "Hey, how was I supposed to know that giving unsolicited negative comments about the other team's star to the NYC press was going to cause a problem?"
  22. Of course Stokes surfaced today just in time to throw gas on the fire. I suppose he could blame rust.
  23. Takahashi - 1.0 Sheffield - 0.5

Martinez has to deserve that ranking. - show enough promise as a 16 y/o amateur to earn himself a mutli-million dollar bonus - have the type of physical prowess plus the baseball-specific skills which not only allows him to compete and succeed as a professional but also that scouts expect will allow him to grow in the sport as he advances - consistently played well in each step even as he's been advance rapidly, had to battle through several injuries, and been several rungs above the majority of his age group - been among the league's hitting leaders as a 20 y/o in AAA at the time of his call-up
  25. Ashie62 wrote: ="Edgy DC"]No. You didn't say the Mets should trade him. You said he should be sent down to preserve his trade value. I disagreed, and think his assignment sould be based on what his value is to the team as a player, not as a trading chip. And you told me I was wrong. Wouldn't value as a player and a trading chip be one in the same? No, because the former is based on the current while the latter (usually) on the future.
