  1. Santana - 4.5 Castillo - 1.0 Parnell - 0.5 Reed - 0.5
  2. I think the readings were mostly done pre-game. Chris Coste got the nod for Philly and did a decent job of it. Of course FOX didn't show it live (gotta run those pre-game spots) but rather shoe-horned it in in pieces between batters and ads a couple innings later but I guess that's better than nothing. And Albert & McCarver both spoke about the topic in conjunction with the reading. And, speaking of McCarver, good for him for at least acknowledging that sports media depts - including his network - were largely responsible for Manny hype. It's one thing for a talking head to question why Manny is being treated as some kind of celebrity comeback story while ARod and others were condemned as filthy cheaters. But most who take that route fail to even comprehend (or do and simply are too chicken-shit to say so) that the guys who sign their paychecks are often the reason behind the inequity.
  3. We need to find the big thread on this so we know where we left off in 2008
  4. That the Mets have been 'out-defensed' by the Phils this season is painfully obvious to even casual watchers of the head to head games. They're kicking our butts in OF defense, in up the middle 'D' w/Utley & Rollins, and Feliz just sucks up everything that comes near him. And then yesterday even the breaks were going against them as three consecutive shots were banked off Moyer - but two deflected directly to fielders for outs.
  5. 7/4 -- Omir Santos, in the CBP, with the catcher's glove. Directly leads to one run and comes just two outs after Wright inexplicably backs off of a foul pop up.
  6. Bump Today is ALS day throughout MLB Not sure exactly what's going to take place in each game - and being that our game is in Philly it's probably their thing to arrange. Hopefully FOX won't step all over whatever it is.
  7. Hey, even the Yanx wore the red yesterday - and they're usually the ones to say; "F.U. MLB, we're sticking with our tradition and we don't care what the cause is".
  8. The pitcher we're facing - Rodrigo Lopez - is call-up making not only his Phils debut but also his first ML appearance since 2007 w/the Rox. He's replacing Anthony Bastardo who's on the shelf w/an injury after he was called up to replace the injured (and stupid) Brett Myers). Lopez spent 2008 pitching only a handful of innings (injured I guess) in the lower levels of the Braves system, and 2009 to date at AAA for the Phils with decent results. He seems to keep the ball in the park and not walk too many (4 HR & 13 BBs in 13 starts/71 IP) which helps him get away with a hits>IP trend (83/71) and still keep the ERA low-ish at 3.91
  9. ][David's] .365 batting average also led the team ... and his .380 slugging and .380 OBP That should be .529 & .432 I mean, we all know his slugging is down this year but I had to double-check that one.
  10. At least his name doesn't start with 'U'. Urbina is the only "Big" name player from the current crop of int'l teens to sign w/the Mets so far - although even this one isn't official yet and others may trickle in over the next few days. Yesterday was the first day these signings could take place and most of the time teams don't like to announce things until all the paperwork is complete.
  11. Houston & SD delayed 52 minutes by a swarm of bees
  12. Braves tack up 3 in the 8th (inc a 2R PH HR by G Anderson) to take a 5-2 lead and leaves them just one inning short of completing a sweep. It'll also make it 17 losses by the Phils in their last 24 games if this one holds up and cause a 4-team pile-up in the NL East: 2 games separating 1st place & 4th. Oh, and the Mariners smacked CC around and lead 6-4 in the 8th.
  13. Misch - 0.2 Dessens - 0.5 Green - 0.8 Stokes - 1.1 Rodriguez - 0.3 Church - 2.4 Tatis - 2.7 Cora - 0.8 Wright - 0.6 Evans - 0.4 Reed - 0.2
  14. ="Benjamin Grimm":1d2w3xrz]July 2 in Pittsburgh.[/quote:1d2w3xrz] Definitely! LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Jul 02 2009 07:11 PM ="Benjamin Grimm":1fmti51e]July 2 in Pittsburgh.[/quote:1fmti51e] Thirded. The fact that this so easily could've been the other way only underscores the tenuousness of the whole baseball bidness. We've got to get a bunch more of these-- this has been one slow-motion-kick-to-the-balls way to get to .500 after 78 games. Ashie62 Jul 03 2009 08:05 AM ="Benjamin Grimm":3ezg9a97]July 2 in Pittsburgh.[/quote:3ezg9a97] me too..my turning it off made it all the sweeter like Christmas morn smg58 Jul 03 2009 10:54 AM I'm going to nominate Pelfrey's gem on July 1. The Mets desperately needed a pitcher to step up, and hopefully we will look back on that game as the turning point of the season. John Cougar Lunchbucket Jul 25 2009 09:02 PM Saturday July 25 at Houston: Niese pitches well D makes the plays 3 HRs including Wright's first of July Starts astonishing win streak* *-perhaps
  15. Frankie blows the save but vultures himself a win.
  16. Shines had to send Tatis there but even a decent throw has him dead at the plate.
  17. SHOW US YOUR TATIS!!!!
  18. Nice inning boys ... complete with a Bugs Bunny Bat-around!
  19. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: ="Benjamin Grimm"]Santos walks (that's a non-single!) and Reed to hit for Dessens. Watching Gameday, and the endless stream of fastballs, I'm kind of in disbelief that he didn't strike out on a slider in the dirt. Karstens tried to drop a big ol' slow curve on him but it stayed high. He it dropped into the strike zone Santos would have been caught doing his best Beltran impression.
  20. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: You don't leave in Dessens here? Not if we have to PH for him I don't.
  21. Edgy DC wrote: Who's your next pitcher? Stokes. Be nice if we could mix in a non-single somewhere along the line - but, for now, I'll take it.
  22. LHBs with 5 of the hits today (Church x 2, Cora x 2, Murphy x 1) vs the LHP Maholm
  23. Has it ever NOT rained in Pittsburgh while the Mets were there?
  24. "Garrett Jones LF " They're starting to clone and breed our old heros in some kind of warped attempt to build a race of super ballplayers!!
