  1. So is asking for a 'Crew Chief Review' restricted to certain innings? They got the call right in this one but the earlier one which wasn't reviewed was much more obviously wrong and was in a similarly important spot.
  2. Spencer Strider made his first start for the Braves since his 2024 season ended one year and 11 days ago on account of [CROSSOUT]a sprained mustache[/CROSSOUT] an elbow injury. Somehow his elbow surgery sidelined him for 53 weeks while NYM pitchers all need two full years. Must be the vegetarian diet. Or, y'know, a deal with the devil. But anyway: 5 innings, 97 Pitches! 2 ER, 5 H, 5 K, 1 BB, 1 HR. Braves trail 2-0, bottom 7th in Toronto
  3. That was too nasty to even contemplate coming up with a retribution joke.
  4. Umpiring crews are reserving their quota of self reviews for when Don Mattingly gets his next managerial job.

  6. Hagenman's ML debut ends at : 3.1 IP, 1 R (after he left), 3 H, 4 K, 0 BB Butto allows Hagenman's run to score on Harrison Bader 23rd hit of the series.
  7. Well now they're just inventing ways not to score.
  8. He pitched reasonably well (but got an 'L') last July in what was the 4th start of his career. https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYN/NYN202407300.shtmlhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYN/NYN202407300.shtml
  9. Didn't like that send ... not when there were no outs and the throw was coming from so shallow in LF
  10. =kcmets post_id=189830 time=1744820900 user_id=53] I think this may be Huascar's first career start?

But after that six straight Mets hit infielder grounders: Out, Out, [end of inning], Error, Out, Out [should have been a game-ending DP], snuck through for a single ... and then a game-ending K because, once again, we don't do hits w/RiSP

  13. That throw got past France's Maginot line.
  14. Two more ABs with RiSP, two more failures to even get the ball out of the infield. Team BA .163 and sinking like a stone
  15. We don't do hits w/RiSP. It's not our thing.
  16. Tacking on to the Gary/Keith/Gelbs discussion of Rod Carew: of the 33 members of the 3K+ hits club, only two had a larger percentage of singles than Carew's 78.7% - (mostly) dead-ball era Eddie Collins: 79.7% - Ichiro: 81.4% Others towards the bottom of that list, several mentioned in the G & K discussion 24th place: Ty Cobb, 72.9% 25th: Lou Brock, 74.3% 26th: Wade Boggs, 74.9% 27th: Derek Jeter, 74.9% 28th: Pete Rose, 75.5% 29th Tony Gwynn, 75.7% 30th: Cap Anson, 76.1%

  18. Chad ochoseis wrote: Tylor Megill vs Bailey Ober, who is apparently quite good. 1.06 career WHIP in is fifth season. Keeps guys off the bases, strikes out plenty and doesn't walk many, gives up a lot of home runs. He's also one of the few starters in MLB who can say to Megill, "Your turn Shorty", as they pass each other between half innings (listed at 6' 9" / 260)
  19. That's not at all surprising. Guys don't normally stay down like that after fouling a ball off their legs. Who was that (from the Angels? the A's?) who broke his leg after fouling a ball during a playoff series w/the Yanx about 20-some years ago?

  21. In 15 games this year Lindor has reached base leading off the 1st eight times (6 hits, one walk, one error). But despite being on 1st w/no outs four times, and on 2nd w/no outs three times, he's scored just two 1st inning runs. One of those runs was via his own HR. The other was on an Alonso HR. The rest of the 1st inning ABs behind him yielded a total of one single and two BBs. All the rest were outs including three GiDPs That's a lot of wasted opportunities.
  22. -- They're off and slugging in Philly where the 11-4 Giants are in for a series. Philly scores three in bottom 1st, Gants counter with Six in top 2 -- Braves are up 2-0 in their opening game in Toronto -- Nats will start the week in Pittsburgh while the Marlins host DBacks, both of those series start on Tuesday.
  23. As just posted in the TWiB notes thread: Cubs ace, Justin Steele, out for the season with some kind of elbow surgery to follow. That kind of puts the baby bears at the front of the line in the Sandy Alcantara sweepstakes as the Cubs system is said to be "loaded" (Buster Olney). The NL Central certainly seems to be there for the taking so the Cubs would seem to be a good bet to be aggressive in getting what they need either at or even before the trading deadline.
  24. Pete Crow-Armstrong, reportedly in talks with the Cubs on a long term contract despite slightly less than one year of service time as this season started, has two HRs [and a triple] vs the Dodgers on SNB* tonight. The Cubs, who romped 16 - 0 vs LAD on Saturday to even the series at 1-1, lead 3-2 with runners on and no outs in top 8. * Yes! ESPN chose the Dodgers for Sunday Night Baseball!!!!
