  1. No, no, those weren't their names. It was Afro Jones and Whitey Jones. Afro, we were assured by he who hung those monikers on the duo, was the good one while Whitey sucked.
  2. Kevin. Not that Kevin but the other Kevin.
  3. 24 combined runs on 33 hits and, surprisingly, Only eight combined pitchers (several of whom were sacrificial lambs): 3:02 ToG How long would this contest have taken prior to the speed-up rules? Lemme put it this way, it would probably still be going. The Average game [which is approximately nine runs scored combined] in the years just prior to the rule changes topped out at around 3:07
  4. It's a bit of a small sample as I only caught pieces of this whole WAS series but, while my feeling is that Muffy needs some smoothing out in his timing and delivery, the analysis part of his game is pretty good. I think he's every bit as good as Keith in talking about the mechanics and mindset of hitting (or at least is on the road to being so), plus is more apt to incorporate modern stats/ideas into his thinking rather than just falling back strictly on old skool BA/RBI type of stuff.
  5. =Cowtipper post_id=191104 time=1745892479 user_id=166] Oh yeah I didn't actually read your post.
  6. Okay excluding his rookie season and 2020, he still has averaged just 118 games and 411 ABs per season. Yes, I know, I'm the one who gave those stats, except I cited PA rather than AB because it's a more accurate appraisal. I also noted that the majority of that missed time was from two seasons four and six years ago while you continue to imply that chunks of missed time from Nimmo is a current and ongoing issue despite him appearing in 89% of games since 2020. "Still an underachiever." -- An underachiever who's provided OPS+ of 128 for his career as a whole and in every single season since becoming a regular. Got it. "Achievers are there. You can't achieve if you're not there for nearly 1/3 of the season." -- 118 G/yr is 3/4 of a season played not "nearly 1/3" missed, and virtually no missed time in the most recent three complete seasons. If you want to have a discussion about Nimmo's past, present, and future, have an honest one. You're not even trying.
  7. Always been an underachiever, Tough to hang a label of "underachiever" on a guy who has put up above average offense in every season (save for his partial rookie one) or "two year wonder" on a guy with 32% better offense (by OPS+) over six consecutive season span, but we'll put that aside for now because, speaking of partial seasons, this "has barely averaged 100 games and not even 350 ABs per year" is absurdly misleading and, I suspect, intentionally so so as to fit a predetermined conclusion. He only has "ten seasons" if one includes the rookie year when he wasn't called up until late July, the Covid season when every player in the league 'Missed' 100 games, and this current season which is basically a month old and average those in and treat them as fully played seasons. And then we site ABs rather than PAs so the numbers look even smaller due to his normally high walk rates. Take '16, '20 and '25 out of the mix and he averages 118 G/year and just shy of 500 PAs, not "barely 100 and /350" The most recent seasons where he Actually missed games were four and six years ago, and he's appeared in 150+ each of the last three. Debate his future projections all you want, but don't do so while distorting the past.
  8. That's actually what I meant to say, but had 'forearm' on the brain and so typed it twice.
  9. 'Left [CROSSOUT]Forearm[/CROSSOUT] Triceps Tightness' for Minter. And while that's not good, it's usually forearm tightness that is the precursor to TJS.
  10. When they were down 2-sniffle last night did it feel like they were winning?

  12. So the Padres lost today (6-0 to Tigers) which means the Mets currently enjoy the best record in the NL. Best in all of MLB for that matter. Yanx salvaged the finale of their three game set vs Cleveland. But the real story is Aaron Judge this season: .415 / .513 / .734 // 1247 What's shocking is that it's not even the best OPS in MLB. Arizona's Pavin Smith = .397 / .500 / .759 // 1259 -- 13 of his 23 hits are for XB (9 2Bs, 4 HRs) Braves have now won five of their last six [3-0 vs MIN; 2-1 vs StL] to climb to 10 - 14
  13. The Phillies appear to lead the league in headbands.
  14. Surprised that there was no SB attempt but maybe the thinking was you'd start the 10th inning with Lindor - Solo - Pete as long as the runner didn't make the 3rd out.
  15. OK, Edwin's evil twin was left locked in his cage today. No someone go out and win this one before we get to the clown car rules.
  16. High wire act time in top 9, aka: Diaz
  17. Good on the umps for sticking to the time limit. I mean, they weren't winning the challenge anyway, but let that limit slide by a couple seconds and soon teams will want a full minute to contemplate their decision.

Back on 4/7 vs TOR: Lindor bunt single, Soto RBI 2B Which, when you consider that they always hit in the same inning except following an inning where Lindor made the 3rd out, is kind of lame.

  20. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Some dumb guys started a MVP chant for Lindor. Too early for that. That's at least the third game in the past week where I've heard some of that going on. Put that shit in a box and then see how things look four months from now (at least).
  21. Wheeler's had three good starts out of five: 4 ER, 10 H, over 20 innings combined. But the two others were kind of rough, particularly by his standards: 9 ER on 15 H in 11.1 innings combined Of course the competition may have had something to do with that. Good games = WAS, COL, MIA; Bad games = ATL, StL
  22. My bad on Azocar getting to 2nd. But if Acuna is only going to try to dive back into 3rd as soon as the fielders turn their attention to him then he was too far off of 3rd. If he was going to force an issue by dashing home then he needed to start while they were still concerned with Azocar. By hanging out more or less stationary in between 3rd & home he was essentially saying to them, 'Hey get me, the more important runner, in a pickle instead of him'. And, yes, speed helps in those situations, but it still winds up as an out 90+% of the time. P.S. today's game is a 1:10 start
  23. Yes, the main fault is with Azocar wandering too soon in the first place. Most times, the defense is going to get one out from that kind of situation. You'd rather it be the guy between 1st & 2nd but, even if he's out trying to dash home there, forcing the defense to go after him gives the other runner a free stroll into 2nd and you've still got a runner in scoring position. Acuna's problem was that he wound up indecisive and in the middle. He's got to hang close enough to 3rd so that he can get back if they try to throw behind him. Then, if he senses an opening or sees that the fielder with the ball turns his back for too long, he can break for the plate. Taylor did this in a game last week and stole a run. Hanging close enough to 3rd and giving them a free out on Azocar is the next best option. Getting caught at the base you start at is the worst of the three as it doesn't even advance the other runner. It turns it into the equivalent of Him being picked off.
  24. Gary mentioned Butto serving up two 3R HRs to Bohm in his (Butto's) ML debut ... so I looked that game up. Butto's first six ML batters faced went: Single - Walk - HR - Double - Single [schwarber, Hoskins, Bohm, Realmuto, Castellanos]. After that is was: K - RBI Single - Pop-Out - K His line that day was: 4 IP, 7 ER, 9 H, 2 BB, 5 K [15.75 ERA; WHIP = 2.56]. It was his only ML game of 2022 (8/21/22) Always good to get a reminder to not over-react too soon.
