  1. Someone needs to help (him) Aranda / help him get it out of his glove
  2. Just caught up via tape delay. And they win the damn thing ...
  3. DET righty Jackson Jobe, let us introduce you to Thomas John The 3rd overall pick in 2021 out of an Oklahoma HS, the 22 y/o goes out two relief appearances last season and 10 starts this year. And, wait! He's getting Tommy John surgery and his name is Jobe?!? How did the Tigers not see this coming?
  4. Mets trying to get to 20 G over .500 for the season, a mark they never reached at all last year (hit +17 several times during September but never higher)
  5. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Two starts in a row for Torrens. Is he the guy now, or did Alvarez hurt something? Paternity leave. Senger was called up yesterday.
  6. =Cowtipper post_id=195145 time=1749672130 user_id=166] The magic of AI says the Mets are likely to clinch the division between August 1 and September 21; if one wishes to tighten that up a bit, the prediction becomes somewhere between August 10 and September 20.
  7. Justin falls between Wayne Garrett and Rod Gaspar alphabetically. Those names have been side by side since 1969. Brilliant!!
  8. btw, I love that this thread is now 2-1/2 years old and still going strong.
  9. I was getting ready to type that McNeil wasn't going to bunt he was going to line the first pitch into RF I was too slow. Happy birthday Bucket!
  10. In today's game there's been a guy named Lord and one named Garrett. All we need is for actor Paul Dano to show up and we'd have the makings for a retro TV show.
  11. And he just barely scored prior to Pete being tagged out at 2nd because he wasn't running hard around 3rd either. He probably doesn't realize that he's almost begging fans to Not be on his side.
  12. Soto better hope he's not either held at 3rd or thrown out on home following a single cuz he should have been on 3rd
  13. Edgy MD wrote: Has Keith called Justin Garza "Matt" yet? If he has he's doing so from his living room ... or possibly his local in Sag Harbor.
  14. Well, except that some of those early XBHs were off his breaking stuff. Biggest problem was that he wasn't always getting ahead with the fastball and so the Nats wound up sitting on some curves.
  15. P - Gore (1st Round / 3rd overall pick by SDP in 2018) SS - CJ Abrams (1st / 6th in 2019) CF - Robert Hassell (1st / 8th in 2020) LF - James Wood (2nd round / 62nd in 2021) Also included was Jarlin Susana, a 6' 6" RH just recently turned 21 y/o, currently in AA and a top 50-ish prospect prior to this season.
  16. And he played a bit in the minors but -- like Edgy talks about with Nimmo/McN/Marte -- deploying a work in progress out there in late innings or during a stretch run/playoff series probably isn't where they want to go right now. Next year might be a different story re: Acuna.
  17. Boras will certainly point to Judge and Freeman for ammo. Not that Pete is as good as either of them but that, at age 35, Freddie currently sports his highest BA and his 2nd best OPS of his career. And Judge, in the midst of his age 33 season, has his highest BA, OBA, SLG, OPS, OPS+ of his career by A Lot! 'So you see, Steve and David, Boras is bound to say, you've got nothing to worry about when it comes to signing mid-30s sluggers. Particularly when the guy we're talking just had (assuming current pace) 'HIS best season ever for BA, OBA, SLG, OPS and he's three and five years younger than those guys. And if you don't think so I've got 47 other teams waiting to talk to me and surely some of them will see it that way.'
  18. A modest number of games on this Monday, but the Phils and Braves are among them and the road doesn't get easier for either struggling team although both will throw out their Ace hurler. - Phils host the Cubbies for the first of three tonight: Matthew Boyd v Zack Wheeler - the Braves travel to Milwaukee to take on the recently hot Brew Crew: Chris Sale v Aaron Civale The other series of interest starting today is Dodgers/Padres with LAD holding on to a 1 game lead over SDP in the west (SFG also one back).
  19. In your previous post I meant to add the caveat that the above projection dates were based on Pete not hitting any more HRs today. So ignore everything I wrote above ... y'know, like most of you usually do.
  20. And now he's no HRs away from tying Wright. With Pete's HR pace picking up lately, the timing for the tie-Straw and break-Straw now projects to occur in late July. It was mid-August last time I checked. At his current HR pace for the year, #252 is slated for game #105 on 7/28, right in the middle of the remaining west coast swing to SF & SD, with #253 slated for four to five days later when the club is back home.
  21. Phils just got swept by the Pirates, are 1-6 in June, and have lost 8 of their last 9 Braves are 0-7 in June and have lost 14 of 17 Mets were 3.0 game behind Philly on May 24th and 5.5 ahead of ATL As of tonight, barely a week later, they're 4.5 and 11.5 ahead. And while part of that is us playing series vs COL, CHW, and COL recently, there was also a four-game series with LAD mixed in. Plus there's the whole deal where we wind up with a total of 13 games vs LAD & NYY while the other NL teams only have to play them nine times so I'm not listening to any whining on their part. Also, I'm just now realizing that we haven't played the Braves AT ALL this season (how fucked up is that?) but we will get them 7 times in our next 16 games and them or PHI in 10 of the next 16 right after dealing with WAS & TBR in the next six.
  22. How is it I'm just learning now that Pawtucket, R.I. is no longer the AAA affiliate for the BoSox? Not only that but they relocated the franchise to Worcester, Mass after the 2019 season so there's been no team at all in Pawtucket for six years now. Not that this is earth shattering news or anything but it just seems weird as the 'Paw Sox' were one of those constants that had been linked with the big city up the road* for most of my life (since the early '70s). * Less than 50 miles, about the same as from Boston to Worcester Yanx & BoSox are trading HRs. 5-3 Boston in the 6th. Carlos Rodon just pulled.
