  2. Edgy MD wrote: Good for Gary, alluding to the original sin of Dodger Stadium. I thought they'd bring that up yesterday when they were talking about Valenzuela and how Mexican Americans didn't really embrace the Dodgers prior to F.V.'s debut. They passed it off as a function of soccer being the preferred sport for the Mexican community but failed to mention the idea of resentment over past displacement.
  3. Three runs on one hit is nice. OTOH, they'd be on a GiDP per/Inning pace if the Dodgers infield were cooperating.
  4. ROX SWEEP!!!! Colorado completed their first series sweep in over a year with a 3-2 win this afternoon over Miami after taking games Monday (6-4) & Tuesday (3-2) This boosts their record up to 12-50 and rockets their projected season's record to 31 - 131 which, considering their projection was 25 - 137 when the weekend started and they were riding an eight game losing streak, is quite an improvement. Also the BoSox just knocked off the Angels with a walk-off 2R/2-out HR in the 9th. It was more like a little bloop justinside the 'Peskey Pole" and measured at a whopping 308 ft. If there were a garbage can sitting just inside the pole the ball would have dropped straight in.
  5. Not well played by Brandon, but a tough play either way. So a 10th inning win to each side. Two games to go in the series.
  6. The odds are not good now after a top 10th without getting a ball out of the infield. Especially seeing as how Butto has to face 1-2-3 in the LAD order ... but now they IW Ohtani so he'll face 2-3-4
  7. Does it seem to anyone else that Gary often knows it's a strikeout just a split second before you do? ... iow, that the audio is just a partial second ahead of the video?
  8. And so we go from trying to avoid extra innings to praying for them.

He is a smart fielder with good hands, but he moves around like a late-stage Bill Buckner and he has for a while now. In fairness to Freddie, he's been playing with leg issues most of the season and even going back to last year. But I guess you could say the same thing with Buckner back in the day. FFF does turn 36 in September
  10. Book 'em Garrett!! Retires 3-4-5 in the lineup after 2nd & 3rd and no outs!!!!
  11. Is everyone on the Dodgers hitting over .400 w/RiSP for the season?
  12. That jumped away from Alvarez like his glove had a pop-o-matic in it.
  13. This Casparius guy in ghosting NYM haters so far.
  14. We had the schedule advantage last week when the ChiSox & Rox were on the sked, but things change this week while we're out in Chavez Ravine. - Braves dropped their opener with Milwaukee so, after righting their ship and getting back over .500 following an 0-7 start, they've now lost 9 of their last dozen to drop back to five-under five-(hundred) at 27-32 - Phils knock off the Jays 8-3 in Toronto thanks in part to the return of Bryce Harper who sat out the last three games (HBP off the elbow) but HR'd in his first AB tonight plus two walks and scored twice.
  15. If Megill can get through this inning unscathed it'll be more than decent outing considering the start. 9 - 1- 2 due up and he's already taken care of #9
  16. Nimmo by a half-a-foot nets a run. Now how do you set the runners if Pete was trying to score from second on the play? He wasn't, but he could have been.
  17. As a fielder, Max Muncy is a real good hitter.
  18. Three LHBs in the lineup [soto, Nimmo, McNeil] vs Kershaw, who is now 37 (I was thinking, 'That's All!' but he's been in MLB since he was 20 so it only seems like he's 52) and hasn't been that good since his return. Three starts this year (and only ten since the close of the '23 season): 11 innings total, 6 ER, 11 Hits, 6 K, 6 BB, 1 HR One of those games came at the recent series in CitiField where he pitched two scoreless innings before the rains came. Betts back in the lineup for LAD
  19. fwiw, Nimmo's explanation, going back to early '24, was that he sensed pitchers starting to get wise to his discriminating eye and had curtailed feeding him stuff off the corners hoping that he'd fish for it. iow it wasn't necessarily a top-down organizational dictate, nor something specifically related to his spot in the order. He just figured that if they were going to feed him more strikes then he needed to swing the bat more, which is more and less a continuation of the trend of his entire career starting from early on when he was often selective to a fault (too many close, called third strikes) towards becoming more aggressive as he's aged. His walk rate has been trending downward for several years now. From his 'Isolated BB-rate' [OBA - BA] of around 130 pts from '17 thru '21 (about double league average) to a down-but-still-good low 90s since, it's not a skill he's lost but it probably isn't one he can get back to where it was five+ years ago simply by deciding to. The more current problem is that his BA has dropped some 40 & 50 points last season and this one: now .224 & .232, down from the 270s in '22 & '23. Combine that with a lower walk rate and the lost OPS/OPS+ points start to drift away. His walk rate so far this year is right around lg avg which may be the result of a small sample size or maybe not.
  20. Tapping the helmet was the signal used during ST (and in the minors) for a B/S pitch review. It's not clear to me that that's what the batter was doing but I guess umps are sensitive to that. I can only imagine how many recreational softball umps in recent years have been mocked by players who didn't like their calls making the 'Headphones' gesture.

Seems like a positively lovely time for a game on a Saturday in the summer: enjoy the afternoon, can go out to dinner and then hit the game. Depends on whether the 7th of June is summer in Denver. Could be 90, could be snowing.
  22. Nothing like throwing Blackburn directly into the line of fire. Gonna be a rough week for TV viewing: Mon, Tue, Wed are 10:10 starts, then a 4:10 on Thursday followed by 8:40 on Friday and 9:40 on Saturday in Denver. A 7:40 local time start on a Saturday night in Colorado ... WTF is up with that?!?
  23. He doesn't appear to be pitching that badly [3.43 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 10 G/8 Starts] but Taijuan Walker is being moved to the Philly pen - even though it was former Marlin Jesus Lazardo who gave up 12 ER on 12 Hits/3 BB in 3-1/3 IP on Saturday to the Brewers.
  24. Yanx salvage the final game of three out in LA (7-3) Yanx jumped all over Yamamoto while MFY got their second straight good start from journeyman Ryan Yarborough
  25. There's an ad on the CitiField outfield wall for Milagro Tequila
