  3. I have absolutely no recollection of Brandon Waddell.
  4. Held 'em to one run that inning. So that's a kind of improvement.
  5. The finale of this three game set was moved up from a 7:10 start to a 1:10 start and, remember, all those who are late do not get fruit cup. Griffin Canning [5-1, 2.88, 1.32] vs Shane Smith [1-3, 2.36, 1.11] Smith has been a great find for the Pale Hose. A non-drafted FA signed by Milwaukee out of Wake Forest in July '21 and then snagged in the Rule 5 draft by Chicago this past winter, the 6' 3" / 240 lb 25 y/o RH was thrown directly into the starting rotation and has yet to allow more than 3 ER in any of his ten starts. He's basically a 5-6 inning guy at his point (who isn't these days?) but, with 41 hits and only 3 HRs allowed in 53.1 innings, that's not much to complain about for a guy you essentially got for free and are paying minimum wage. A sweep would be nice. Not to mention that I'm on an IGT roll which is at least as important as the team's success.
  6. Manaea is the only guy of those three who automatically slots in front of Megill in the pecking order and he could be the third of the three to return, he certainly won't be the first. So let's not fall victim to the 'backup QB' logic here and assume that the replacements we've yet to see throw a pitch are destined to be instant upgrades. And who knows what the situation will be when the first or any of that trio returns. These things sometimes have a way of working themselves out, sometimes positively, sometimes not. Right now Megill is pitching to a 3.5 ERA, a 1.36 WHIP and a K-rate a shade over 12/9 -- kind of the definition of a 3rd/4th starter at worst on most teams. He walks too many (as does the entire staff) and seems to lose effectiveness quickly at some point usually around the 5th or 6th but, as mentioned, it's not like there's an obvious better choice on hand on either the major or minor league level aside from Manaea and he's at least a month from being ready.
  7. Boy Lindor's been behind in counts a lot. ... but he snuck one through the IF anyway.
  8. 2-0 Phillies is your phinal.
  9. And Butto sets minds at ease with one pitch. I thought that was an easy out off the bat then I remembered: Wait, that's not Harrison Bader out there and it's not Tyrone Taylor ... it's Jeff McNeil!! But he got the job done even if with a couple fewer style points.

  11. This is where Megill needs to start to show he's capable of more than five innings.
  12. How can that not be a hit for Soto? - Ventura got credit for a single on his GSS - Tim McCarver, who famously hit a Bicentennial Day Grand Slam then somehow managed to pass Garry Maddox on the base-path between 1st and 2nd, got credit for a 3 RBI single. Soto reached 1st safely and then was called out for passing Nimmo between 1st & 2nd. I guess the fact that Nimmo wound up back on 1st base is what negates the hit but that seems like a non-sensical exception.
  13. As per Gary a minute or so ago, Wednesday's game (5/28) has been changed from its scheduled night time start to a 1:10 first pitch due to impending weather!
  14. The Alvarez HBP looked exactly how Bryce Harper's did in the Braves/Philly game just a short time ago ... but Harper's seemed much more painful.
  15. Jared Young only 251 HRs behind Strawberry for the NYM record.
  16. No excuse there for neither runner to see the ump's call - particularly Soto and the 1st base coach who were right in the neighborhood.
  17. the NYM staff got away with walking seven last night ... they gotta find a way to cut that shit out. They're not listening to me.
  18. Bottom of 1st in the first of a three game series in Philly, Bryce Harper takes a Spencer Strider fastball off his right elbow (no guard) and immediately has to leave the game. Scoreless thru 1 but this development bears watching. Ranger Suarez on the bump for Philly.
  19. Game two of this three game set features two very large RH'ers as Tylor Megill take the mound against Jonathan Cannon Cannon (6' 6" / 225) was a 2022 3rd round pick out of U Georgia. He made 21 starts as a rookie last year and this will be his 11th game / 9th start this season. Currently 2-5, 3.76 ERA / 1.31 WHIP and has so far shown a somewhat low K-rate (6.7/9), for this era anyway. And now you know as much about him as I do, but about 90% of this White Sox roster is anonymous to me so that's no surprise. The offense has got to be better tonight (is does, doesn't it?) but one could say that for both sides who combined for a grand total of 3 runs on 11 hits (8 of them singles) and went a collective 1/18 w/RiSP and even that hit didn't knock in anyone as the runs came in via a Sac fly, a Sac Fly, and a Sac Fly. Fortunately two of those were ours. That the NYM staff got away with walking seven last night is a tribute to the suckitide of the Chicago offense but they gotta find a way to cut that shit out.
  20. I tend to pay less attention to details of uniforms as compared to most of the geeks 'round these parts so the fact that I'm just now getting around to noticing something that has been going on for six years is perhaps the least surprising thing on this forum.
  21. Y'know what they call an often ugly game like that? A Win.
  22. The pattern continues: two on/nobody out - weak grounder, weak grounder, semi-intentional walk, K-looking.
  23. The good news is that the defense has kept this to just a one run game despite two hits and [CROSSOUT]no[/CROSSOUT] walks, now one. The ChiSox only have four hits (+ two walks) but could have seven or eight and we'd be down by three or more.
  24. We have to rename PFP, Pitcher's Fielding Practice, into 'Pete's Fielding Practice' cuz he needs the work on the old 3-1 a lot more than the staff does.
  25. Is this the first time for the poppy on the uni for Memorial Day? Both teams are wearing the same one so I assume this is a league-wide deal. I tend to think of the poppy symbol as more an English (and therefore also Canadian) tradition for 'Remembrance (Veterans) Day' but not so much an American thing.
