  1. What was that, a 75 pitch inning? ,,, and now I foresee about a 9 pitch inning coming back and Wheeler's going to be right back out there.
  2. Man he's tough to watch at times. They haven't hit a ball hard all inning but this doing is still largely his fault.
  3. In fairness to Harvey, he hasn't been making road trips all year (hell, he had to fight them just to attend HOME games) which essentially makes him a baseball fan in NYC with his night free.
  4. He may be proud, but that doesn't make him a former ML player (and, yes, my previous post did not specify ML player when listing current GMs but I think that was pretty much implied)
  5. I have no idea who that is.

Dave Stewart -- the former hurler, not the Eurhythmics member -- named Arizona GM. Joins Jerry DiPota, Billy Beane, and Ruben Amaro Jr. as former players who are current GMs
  7. Team Wins in a Season vs. the Mets ... T4) Florida Marlins, 2004: 15 (11 saves by Benitez) I remember this stat/year specifically for a conversation that WFAN yakker Jody McDonald had with a Miami writer/broadcaster (I forget which) telling him how much they were going to regret having Benitez on their team. - and then when he got off to a good start Jody Mac had to revise he prediction about how he'd fall apart when he faced the Mets, that seeing 'New York' on unis was going to be more than he could handle - and then when he was near-perfect in a series in Miami he got revised further to he'd fall apart as soon as he pitched a series IN New York And on it went. But even though he gave himself about three different ways to say 'I told ya so', Armando skunked him at every turn.
  8. 3-run lead in the 9th, NYM win-pct in the upper-20s here. But now with a leadoff single it inches a bit lower.
  9. Brewers lose to Cincy this afternoon eliminating themselves and guaranteeing the Giants a spot in the post-season. The only question remaining in the NL now is whether the Pirates can catch the Cards. StL has 3 more in Arizona starting Friday. Pitt with one more vs Atlanta then 3 in Cincy
  10. Nice base-running this inning - EYJ's steal - EYJ scoring on a short single to an OF with a good arm - MdD following up by going to 2nd - Flores legging out an IF single (he's slow, but not AS slow as we were led to believe) - MdD scoring from 2nd on on Flores's hit I like when stuff like that happens to Tyler Clippard, because he's funny-looking, because he's an ex-MFY, and because he takes forever to deliver each pitch.
  11. This game looks like it's being played in front of multiple dozens of people.
  12. So do you suppose there's some just-hired flunky from Steiner Sports Collectibles whose job it is tonight to follow Jeter around and bag-up for sale the final dump he takes at the YSIII clubhouse bathroom?
  13. So you actually got to witness how the west was won!
  14. Edgy MD wrote: Seems like a handful of these 2014 games vs. the Nats have gone this way. Mets are the better team through five, but only lead by a run or two, and then the Nats break through for five. Indeed. In fact, with that 3-run top of the 5th, the odds of the Mets winning this game just jumped to 17%
  15. Every once in a while it helps to mix in an extra-base hit. Doubles > double plays
  16. Edgy MD wrote: Four hits in the first seven batters. Mets looking to knock off the Treinin wheels. And Treinan only retired 7 of the first 14 batters he faced. But two outs on the basepaths (1 CS + 1 GiDP) and a bunch of LOBs = just 1 run
  17. Now THIS is the song that should have accompanied that Gatorade commercial And now, the end is here its time for Jetes to just retire His bat has gotten slow his range is gone, he dont inspire. To the Bronx, he bids farewell. No more Os, or Rays, or Blue Jays. Just one more trip, but its a pip, he goes to Fennnnn-Way Cheap gifts, he got a slew, most of them crap, but in his honor. The tributes were all his due, or so I heard, from Ian OConnor. He laughed, he gripped and grinned, but cmon, what else could he say? But then, just check next week, theyll be on Eeeeee-Bay. But what of the sport? It wont survive, sans Number 2, or some such jive. Without his clutch, without his leaps. But as ye sow, so shall ye reap. So when youre gone, the game will go on. Go hit the Higggggh-Waaaaay.
  18. Considering that the Nats now have DH's on tap for Thursday AND for Friday (vs Marlins) I suspect we'll see a bunch of subs and lots of pitching changes in the two games today. Of course it's likely that those subs (and maybe the pitchers too) will still out-HR us ... but at least this makes it closer to a fair fight.
  19. Look at it this way: no Nationals hit HRs off NYM pitching tonight.
  20. Turns out that Hughes was pulled because a monsoon hit delaying the game for an hour or so and ending his day - so apparently nothing underhanded going on there w/Twins mgmt.
  21. Yeah, root for the Pirates to keep the Braves down and to catch the Cards, and for the Phils to knock down the Marlins.
  22. RAINED OUT!! Day/Night DH tomorrow
  23. seawolf17 wrote: https://twitter.com/ESPNStatsInfo/status/514878013205667840 Phil Hughes (@Twins) will NOT come back out for 9th inning. He is at 209 2/3 IP & gets a $500k bonus if he reaches 210 IP in 2014 OUCH. Ouch indeed. Hughes also set an ML record for K/BB ratio, K'ing 186 while BB'ing just 16 for the season. The 11.63 K/BB ratio breaks Bret Saberhagen's 1994 mark of 11.00
  24. Strategy for tonight: Get an early lead then hold on until the rain shows up. It's really our only chance.
  25. Tigers win this afternoon, putting them 1.5 ahead of KCR Oakland down 3-0 in the 4th - they may have the Yanx off their tail but still have some work to do in order to out-last Seattle & Cleveland.
