  1. OK, fine. But this only means that YOU CAN'T BLOW IT NOW!!!!!
  2. NL WC game will be 8PM Wednesday on ESPN
  3. Pathetic in that we can't hit, and pathetic in that it's on track to be a 1-0 game that takes over three hours to complete.
  4. Edgy MD wrote: Your instinct is guiding you well. It's garbage. Plus it adds evidence to my notion that about 80% of current music is released with a 'Featured' guest, as if an admission that the main guy isn't enough to carry the tune and/or album. Meanwhile, this is a pathetic game.
  5. Are we going to have enough bodies to play the game tomorrow?
  6. Frayed Knot wrote: I think it would be a real good idea if we got some hits tonight. And when I said 'some' I didn't mean one, and certainly didn't mean for that one to result in an inning-ending out.

  8. Pitt wins, but StL pulls one out in extras in Arizona so the Cards remain one game up in the NLC with two to go. And, unlike in the days of just one WC, a tie here would require a one-game play-off to determine division winner vs Wild Card Nationals clinch best NL record. Will host the WC survivor and have the HF-edge in Round 2 The Cubs have a shot at tying Cincy for 4th place in the Central. Think of where those two teams were (both in the standings and in perception) in relation to each other early in the season.
  9. Oakland won last night in Texas but isn't home free yet. 2 up on Seattle with 2 to go KC pulls to within one game of Detroit. Cleveland got knocked out on Friday Houston's win last night assures that they won't finish last.
  10. Niese - 2.5 Goeddel - 1.0 Granderson - 1.5
  11. Torres - 0.5 Edgin - 0.3 Matsuzaka - 0.1 Flores - 1.6 Nieuwenhuis - 1.0 den Dekker - 1.0 Granderson - 0.5 Tejada - 0.5
  12. Well, except for deGrom, every one of the others is a legit injury (of varying degrees).
  13. Edgy MD wrote: There's no way Francessa got both those "r's" out. I was para-spelling what he said. btw, there's a rumor that Harvey left YSII about an hour prior to the end of the game.
  14. Yes, those words do appear with the caveat that there's no indication that this is anything like that. Bone chips & TJ surgery are two very different things. Meanwhile, the list of folks being shut down for the season prior to its natural end keeps rising. Wright d'Arnaud Lagares Herrera deGrom Eveland Black and those are just the ones who were active when September began
  15. No, den Dekker's going to hit one tonight. There, I said it!
  16. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: Mike and Mike took a few moments out of their non-stop NFL coverage to devote a few minutes to Jeter. Greenie said that if this was a game that counted, the Orioles would have walked Jeter in that situation. I call BS on that. Jeter and his .255 stick and no power or speed is the guy they'd want in the box. The difference is that in a game that counted, A) They wouldn't have grooved him a pitch, or there would have been a pinch hitter. Discussion then followed that Jeter should be a unanimous selection to the Hall of Fame. Having recovered from the shock of baseball talk on ESPN radio, I switched stations. This is the part about baseball that guys on ESPN (not just Greeny & Golic but virtually everyone empaled there) don't get because they pay so little attention to it unless and until forced to. As a contrast, even as big an MFY fan that Francesa is, the brief ten minutes I caught of him yesterday showed that he gets it. He compared Jeter to Pete Rose. Both a HoF-worthy players who anchored dynastic teams, but neither, he admitted, were the best player on those team most of the time (maybe in a given year they were but not overall) much less in all of baseball. But through a combination of personality, luck, looks, attitude, timing, flash, press adoration, or a host of other factors, they had a 'Star Power' that out-shone their equally talented (or sometimes more) teammates. But since ESPN is built around equating star power with 'Best' it's only natural to them that Jeter is unanimously regarded as the best around and therefore should go into the HoF with the highest pct ever if not unanimously, or even simply by acclaim without bothering with the silly five-year rule that exists for mere mortals. They don't think Jeter's a mere mortal because it doesn't occur to them that the most famous guy ISN'T the best all-around player ever.
  17. So as Butch and Sundance kept saying to each other: "who are those guys?" After seeing them 6-12 times per year for half a century, it now looks like we last saw them back in early 2011 Two guys have been out there just about every day for them: 2B - Jose Altuve -- really good [.343/.379/.455 - 222 Hits, 46 2Bs, 56 SBs - should get some MVP votes], and really short [listed at 5' 6" but even that might be wearing really thick socks]. Only 24, already in 4th season 3B - Matt Dominguez -- also 24 y/o. 1st round pick by the Marlins back in 2007. Great glove, some pop (16 HRs), but not hitting much [.215/.256/.332] More or less regulars: C - Jason Castro (Castro the Astro) 1B - Jon (no relation to Ken) Singleton (22 y/o) - Acquired from the Phillies, called up earlier this season. Nice stick when he's not getting busted for pot (several times while in minors) SS - Jonatan Villar -- also from Philly (Roy Oswalt deal). Looking at his hitting stats I hope he's got a good glove LF - Robbie Grossman (24) -- he switch-hits, and I've never heard of him CF - Dexter Fowler (28) -- once a top prospect w/Colorado. No longer with the Rox, no longer a top prospect RF - Jake Marisnick (23) -- acquired via trade w/Miami in July. Chris Carter - OF/DH/1B -- Low Avg (.228), lots of power (37 HRs and 58 of 114 hits for XBs), lots of Ks
  18. Considering the dog & pony show the Yanx had planned* to put on--Jeter pulled in the middle of the 9th, take laps around the field, all the past teammates meeting him at home plate ... hell, there could have been military fly-overs and phone calls from the President included for all I know--which probably would have delayed Baltimore's arrival in Toronto until about six minutes prior to game time this evening, maybe the way it did end was for the best for everyone, non-DJ fans included. I'd like to think that it serves as a reminder that real sports is better than the manufactured and packaged-for-sale insta-nostalgia shit they've been peddling for the last six months - but I tend to doubt any lessons were learned. (speaking of which, what happened to the ball he hit? I'd like to think the Baltimore catcher kept it). The only surprising part is that they didn't follow through with their plans after Robertson struck out Cruz for the 2nd out, but by then it was down to a one-run lead. * as revealed by Girardi after the game

  21. But not nearly as permanent.
  22. Hey, their last one is only 9 years ago.
  23. Seattle won earlier to keep their slim hopes alive. Either or both of Oakland or KC can clinch the two WC spots with a win tonight -- both are tied late (KC @ ChiW, Oak @ Tex). Detroit won this afternoon meaning they'll be at least 2 games up in the Central heading for the weekend, and 3 up* if KC can't pull this one out. *aka "Dormie" in golf terms - in honor of the Ryder Cup starting tomorrow (in a few hours actually) P.S. for some reason the White Sox unis are trimmed in green for tonight's game
  24. David Robertson: Accomplice
  25. Adam Jones (1-out, 2R 9th inning HR) & Steven Pearce (2-out, solo 9th inning game-tying HR) obviously didn't get a copy of the script. ... or maybe they did because tying up the game means who-know-who gets another AB
