  1. Brian Lawrence gets the start tomorrow. I guess WR would rather have Lawrence, who obviously wasn't great as he was sent down after several starts, was deemed more worthy than Pelfrey or Humber.
  2. Monday and Tuesday @ RFK, section 311, row 3, seats 16 and 17.
  3. Howie: "No question, he was out at first." MLB umps suck.
  4. On last Wednesday's Letterman, Viggo Mortensen ended his interview by inviting Dave to join him at Shea that night. He then presented Dave with a Mets pin.
  5. Glavine 3 Wright 3 Alou 1 Wagner 1 Castillo .5 Feliciano .5
  6. Not just ball 4, ball 5 and ball 6! Unbelievable.
  7. Yikes! Mea culpa!
  8. Costas is a native St. Louis'er (ite?). I've never forgiven the St. Louis fans for their treatment of Keith Hernandez after he returned as a Met. I guess these genius fans forgot how he helped their team win the Series.
  9. Nice--Phillies have to go to the 'pen in the 2d. That should cost them the use of some relievers for tomorrow.
  10. Green 3 Maine 3 Reyes 1 Anderson 1 Beltran 1 Milledge 1
  11. "Does Joel really still sing that song?" Yes. "Zanzibar" is on the "12 Garden Live CD" compiled during his 12 sold-out concerts at MSG in '06. The line was changed to "Rose, he knows he'll never make the Hall of Fame...." And it's a great song, despite the MFY reference.
  12. MGIM: "I'd say let No La Tenga, known Mets fans, close the stadium, but, um, they might have trouble filling more than a couple sections." Excellent thought--it's Yo La Tengo. I know someone who knows them and they are indeed Mets fans.
  13. Johnny Dickshot wrote: I see there's a trashy **** from East Northport who's into the Yankees. Chicken looks to me like most likely to be eliminated in week 1. The MFYs can have the professional wrestler. I agree, JD, about Chicken's fate.
  14. Survivor cast members are not really "big shots" but we don't have a thread for "reality TV stars that we'll forget about in a few weeks." Two of the new castaways in the upcoming Survivor identify themselves as Mets fans. Unfortunately, one of them is named "Chicken": http://www.cbs.com/primetime/survivor15/survivors/chicken.shtml http://www.cbs.com/primetime/survivor15/survivors/courtney.shtml (although in her bio, she identifies herself as a loyal Red Sox fan)
  15. Edgy DC wrote: Let's, as Long Islanders, stop stroking ourselves. Long Island has been flyover country to Billy Joel for 25 years. Mr. Joel still has a house in The Hamptons. While that's not exactly Levittown, it still is on LI.
  16. Off the top of my head, references to the MFYs in Billy Joel songs: Zanibar: "Rose, he knows he's such a credit to the game, But the Yankees grab the headlines every time." Miami 2017: "They sent a carrier out from Norfolk- And picked the Yankees up for free." Also, on the back cover of one of his albums, I think it was "The Nylon Curtain", the NY Times was on the table and there is an article about a Mets loss. Having said that, I'm a big fan and if Shea has to close, and there is going to be a last concert, then he's an appropriate headliner.

  18. seawolf17 wrote: Besides, "Some Kind of Wonderful" is one of the best songs ever. Agreed. As is "Bad Time."
  19. Perez 4 Wright 2 Beltran 1 Heilman 1 Reyes 1 Wagner 1
  20. Mulvey with another great start to win the series and advance to the PCL championship for the Zephyrs. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?gid=2007_09_08_nozaaa_nasaaa_1&t=g_box&did=milb
  21. Edgy--Alomar snuck back onto the bench on Tuesday.
  22. Collazo 1 Humber .5 Beltran .5
  23. Delgado out 7 to 10 days. Sorry, I didn't see the thread on this subject.
  24. LF Endy Chavez 2B Luis Castillo 3B David Wright CF Carlos Beltran 1B Jeff Conine SS Ruben Gotay RF Lastings Milledge C Mike DiFelice P John Maine No Paulie, Moises, Carlos D. or Jose. According to John Delcos: Carlos Delgado returned to New York this morning for a MRI on his sore right hip. Delgado felt a twinge batting in the eighth inning Wednesday night.
