  1. "I really like Nick Johnson, but the Nats could make the price really prohibitive if they feel like dealing him at all." "They're also desperate for starting pitching and are unlikely to be competitive over the next 2 1/2 years. A deal involving Niese will definitely pique their interest." The problem in trying to trade with the Nationals is that Bowden doesn't just want to deal to improve his team, he wants to rip you off--he wants to take your best player and your pants and then crow about it to the press. That's why the Mets couldn't get Cordero from him at the trading deadline in '07 (which might have helped stop the you-know-what but he might have an injured arm now) because he wanted Pelfry and the Mets "only" offered Humber. (I might have that backwards but Bowden wanted much more than Cordero was worth.) And that's also why the Nationals got nothing for Soriano. They could have traded him at the deadline but Bowden was going for the kill. As a result, he left as a FA.

  3. Reyes gonna steal 3d?
  4. You gotta be kidding me! Come on Willie, get mad!
  5. You know who is enjoying this game? The Phillies because the Mets are using the entire pen. Santana needs to work deep into the game tomorrow.
  6. Thank you for the fastball, tall one.
  7. Let's make sure that we talk before then.
  8. Vlad--will you be at Nats Park next Wednesday?
  9. Bob Carpenter is the play-by-play guy. He created a very nice scorebook but he is a horrendous announcer. Locals seem to like him which means that they don't know what a good announcer sounds like.
  10. The BP that Letterman threw Wright yesterday has paid off!
  11. He's still honest: PLD in The Washington Post National's Blog: Lo Duca said he isn't exactly rooting for the Mets. "I want them to lose every game," he said. "That's nature."
  12. What a great pitching staff the Mets have.
  13. Astley wins, but... from Adam Rubin's blog: Runoff to determine Mets' new 8th inning song The Mets will have a runoff to determine their new eighth-inning sing-along tune. The organization received 5 million votes on its Web site after inviting fans to choose from among 10 selections to potentially replace Sweet Caroline. An issue arose, however, when FARK.com readers bombarded the Mets with gag votes for a write-in candidate: Rick Astleys Never Gonna Give You Up. The Astley tune actually won. Rather than commit to that as the new eighth-inning tune since it probably doesnt reflect the fan bases wishes, the Mets will play the top six selections once apiece during the first six games of their home stand. The one that draws the largest crowd response will stick. The other songs that made the cut, in descending order: Livin on a Prayer, Bon Jovi; Im a Believer, The Monkees; Movin Out, Billy Joel; Sweet Caroline, Neil Diamond; and Build Me Up Buttercup, The Foundations. The Mets suggested the Fark tune winning didnt necessarily result in the runoff, saying the contest rules stipulated Internet voters would help decide the outcome.
  14. Braves announcers: the Gold Glove voters "screwed up" by voting for Wright and not Chipper... then Wright shows why he got the award.
  15. It took the Braves announcers until the bottom of the 5th to mention the "Historic fade." That's the latest thus far for the out-of-town announcers.
  16. Right--the fans are still living in the past.
  17. It must be great to be a Braves fan and believe that every single pitch from a Braves pitcher is a strike, no matter where it is thrown.
  18. metirish wrote: The eighth inning could get Rickrolled... Rickrolled all year long Are you all familiar with what Rickroll is? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rickrolling My 14 year old son told me that "Rickroll" is an internet meme [fad] that's been around for a year. He said that since more than 8,000 people "Digg'd" it, the song should win. I'm not sure if I understand why this song was the object of the fad. It's a good song. The video is silly (the Pop-Up facts version is good) but there are far worse songs and certainly far worse videos.
  19. Why wasn't Feliciano or Wise ready for this situation?
  20. How about a 2-out hit??? Come on David!
  21. Bad AB... Buck & McCarver were right--he should have been swinging.
  22. How can I get mad when umps at my kids games screw up when these clowns, making six figures a year, screw up night after night (Beltran the other night and now this)?
  23. Are you fi'in kidding me?
  24. Does the Marlins TV have any sponsors? All we've seen are those lame Maroony ads, GEICO, and the sad, fatherless boy whose Dad smoked.
  25. "This should inspire a Met rally." Or the arrival of very short people.
