  1. Good analysis, FK. Compounding my/our anger was the fact that the Jeter "look at my website" commercial came on immediately after the inning. As was said elsewhere, no matter what we think of Jeter and his supporters in the press, he would have run hard the whole way. For all the talk of fundamentals in ST, this team stinks at "the little things." No point in regurgitating it here, but when the "face of the franchise" does what he did tonight, not run hard for 180 feet, it speaks volumes about this team and how it's run.
  2. I know that fantasy is verboten here, but tough: I'm fighting for 1st, I have Wright and Francouer, and that cost me a run and an RBI.
  3. I think that was one of the worst things we've seen this season. Bad baserunning by two runners at the exact same time. I can't believe it.
  4. [u:1esgqbwe]Washington[/u:1esgqbwe] Harris - 8 Desmond - 6 Zimmerman - 5 Dunn - 3 Willingham - 7 Dukes - 9 Gonzalez - 4 Burke - 2 Mock - 1 [u:1esgqbwe]METS:[/u:1esgqbwe] Pagan - 7 Castillo - 4 Wright - 5 Beltran - 8 Murphy - 3 Francouer - 9 Thole - 2 Valdez - 6 Maine - 1
  5. Yes. He misses some of course but if he's off from the show, there's a night game in NY (like last night). I should have said "a lot" rather than "almost" all.
  6. Maine in 07, Johan in 08, and now Redding in 09: big Mets Saturday afternoon pitching performances in September!
  7. Yeah, we wouldn't want people to be able to see such a great father-daughter moment. We wouldn't want people to be able to see a Phillies fan acting against the stereotype. That moment should be in a MLB commercial.
  8. Isn't "phoul" spelled incorrectly in the title or am I missing the cuteness and cleverness of spelling "foul" the wrong way?
  9. Jerry again plays for 1 run by having Tatis bunt Francoeur to 3d with 0 outs. I guess there was no chance that Tatis single or even hit a ground ball to the right side so Jerry wanted to give up an out.
  10. To me, Olbermann is a genius, news or baseball. Besides hosting his own news show, he is a baseball historian. Even if you don't agree with his politics, you cannot discount his baseball knowledge. He attends almost every game at CF and YS and I think that his words carry great weight. There are many who think that Murphy would be OK at 1B in '10 and I do not. When Olbermann posted similar thoughts, I wanted to share it with my friends at the CPF.
  11. Keith Olbermann wrote about Murphy after last night's game: Daniel Murphy is not now a major league first baseman. After a game-losing, panicky, assumption-driven fiasco in Atlanta Wednesday, Murphy tonight failed to make what would admittedly have been a special pick-up on a tough hop off the bat of Christian Guzman in the top of the first. And a first baseman needs to be "special" defensively if he has no real history of power, and has produced only 10-56-.262-.414 on his first big league season. http://keitholbermann.mlblogs.com/
  12. That's Ian Desmond and he's a favorite of the Nationals blogger at fjb.com. Baseball Prospectus said this about Desmond: "This kid can hit and really play some defense. If I'm the Nationals, he's my shortstop on Opening Day next year instead of Cristian Guzman." fjb.com also says: Since Nyjer Morgan went down, they've scored 59 runs in 18 games, an average of 3.28. The biggest culprits over the last month: * Guzman: .200 BA, 3 BB, 3 XBH (more errors than BB or XBH) * Willingham: .157 BA, 6 XBH, 9 RBI, 27 K * Nieves: 0 XBH (the same number of balks and outfield assists) * Gonzalez: .203 BA, 1 BB (more GDP than walks) * Bard: .234 BA, 11 K 0 BB (the same number of walks as touchdown passes, slam dunks, and double salchows) http://firejimbowden.blogspot.com/

The Mets won't see Livan this series.
  14. By that logic, you'd make a great college football coach. You'd let the players that skipped curfew or classes keep playing out of obligation to winning. Your argument would have more credence if the games mattered but they do not. There's no sense of accountability in the Mets organization. The manager can't manage, the General Manager is incompetent, and the players stay in the lineup no matter how much they screw up (even the heralded PR guy can't stop the GM from making an idiot of himself at a press conference). Maybe a night watching someone else play first would have been beneficial to Murphy. And BTW, how'd the Mets do with Murphy in the lineup?

Anderson lf A. LaRoche 1b O. Infante 2b T. Hanson p No Frankie tonight. His wife had twins. Geez, yesterday was an off-day, Mrs. Rodriguez, be considerate!
  18. I agree with Gwreck: it's odd that they are going to Baltimore, an AL city that isn't The Bronx, in two consecutive years. They play on all national holidays this year (as opposed to this year when they were off on Labor Day) and two of the national holidays are against the Nationals. No west coast trips after July 25--from that date, the furthest they go (until the playoffs!) is Houston and Chicago.

  21. The Mets have more runs than the other team. First time since Sunday. Of course, the other team hasn't had a chance yet but it's still worth noting!
  22. METS: Luis Castillo 2B Fernando Tatis LF David Wright 3B Carlos Beltran CF Jeff Francoeur RF Omir Santos C Daniel Murphy 1B Wilson Valdez SS Mike Pelfrey RHP (10-10, 4.83) Phillies: J. Rollins ss S. Victorino cf C. Utley 2b R. Howard 1b R. Ibanez lf J. Werth rf P. Feliz 3b C. Ruiz c J. Moyer p Even though he's not in the lineup, watch Angel Pagan go to CF anyway. Tatis in LF--as Jason Fry said today, "The only player left who might be profitably scrutinized for 2010 is Nick Evans, but he isn't playing for some reason Jerry Manuel hasn't seen fit to share with the world. (Are there really still things to learn about Fernando Tatis?)" Howie Rose is doing the game w/Tim McCarver on FOX. And The Times Mets beat reporter is covering the MFY game today.
