  1. Carter, 8. Perfect choice given that we were watching the Mets play the successor to the Expos.
  2. I unfollowed Lennon months ago. He's way too nasty. The Newark Star-Ledger guy may be next. Nice work Ceetar.
  3. Three Mets (Gee, Parnell, Thole) visited Ground Zero yesterday: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/10/sports/baseball/10mets.html?ref=baseball It might have helped stop the "controversy" if Beltran, Perez and/or Castillo also went. Gee didn't go to Walter Reed--he was excused as that night's starter--and he went yesterday.
  4. Want to know if you'll be able to watch the Mets v Phillies game on Sept. 11th. The folks at The506.com put together this map: http://the506.com/sports/?cat=19 StL-Atl 57 SF-SD 21.8 Phi-NYM 21.2 So for those of us in DC, no. (Even if you have Extra Innings or mlb.tv, FOX games are exclusive to all media so you're stuck with what they give you.) And since it's football season, FOX has back-up play-by-play guys.
  5. http://www.theonion.com/articles/16000-diamondbacks-fans-killed-on-complimentary-ra,18061/
  6. "After the game, the bubbly was flowing though it wasnt traditional Champagne, but Kedem sparkling grape juice, a substitute that was either in honor of the Jewish New Year, which began just before first pitch, or the fact that several Cyclones are below the drinking age." Tremendous. Love that they used Kedem.
  7. Put it in the books! They win the rubber game of a road series first time all season.
  8. There was a guy at last night's game with an official "Evans 6" home, pinstriped jersey (with the inaugural patch). 2d Spitter and I wondered why anybody would have such a jersey unless your last name is Evans and/or your related to Nick Evans.
  9. Do the Mets lead the league being called out on strikes?
  10. METS: 1. Angel Pagan RF 2. Luis Hernandez 2B 3. Carlos Beltran CF 4. Ike Davis 1B 5. David Wright 3B 6. Chris Carter LF 7. Josh Thole C 8. Ruben Tejada SS 9. R.A. Dickey P Nationals: Morgan - CF Desmond - SS Zimmerman - 3B Dunn - 1B Bernadina - LF Morse - RF Rodriguez - C Espinosa - 2B Hernandez - P
  11. If Kay is so sure about this information, then why isn't all over ESPN? It's not like ESPN is shy about promoting itself.
  12. Misch's spot became Mejia's spot.
  13. That was fun. Good company and an excellent game. And yes, there will be a Wifey Watch picture as soon as 2d Spitter can get the picture out of his camera.
  14. If you care what Michael Kay says, he said today that he's heard that Bob Melvin will definitely be the next Mets manager.
  15. Agreed, MFS62. Hopefully he gets called up today. There's no point in playing Castillo anymore so let's see what Turner can do. The only reason that Luis Hernandez got called up ahead of Turner when Reyes got hurt was because Turner was on the DL. The Mets should show their minor leaguers that good performance gets rewarded.
  16. Sadly, a Jeter "Edge" ad reappeared last week.
  17. I agree with dgw: Riggleman printed it and put in on the bulletin board in the Nationals clubhouse.
  18. I can't believe that I spent money to watch that game. I think it was the first game in many years where I left early (bottom of the 7th--could have gone in the 5th). Nice assemblage of Mets fans but Jerry doesn't play his best guys, sitting Beltran today; Wright tries to steal down 3, and Jerry does a lefty/righty PH in the 5th. Yes, in the 5th inning (Evans for Carter who had a double in the game)! The pitching stinks, everything about them stinks. And yet, I going back tomorrow.
  19. You shouldnt volunteer to do three KTEs for the same opponent. This is my third KTE for the Mets @ Nationals and I wont make that mistake next season. Im bored of writing about the Nationals. Bored like Hawkeye and BJ: Hawkeye: Bored BJ: So bored Hawkeye: So bored it's boring BJ: Boringdingding Hawkeye: Boronus, Boretis, Boremus. I came, I saw, I bored BJ: He bored, she bored, they bored Hawkeye: All aboard BJ: I was gonna say that! As a result, Im playing out the KTE string just like the Mets as they play the Nationals in DC for three games starting Labor Day, September 6th. While I will focus on the task at hand, I will take a cue from fman99s recent KTE and intersperse thoughts about living in the DC area for almost 23 years after growing up in New York. [u:1jfbnozx]September 6, 1:05[/u:1jfbnozx], Mike Pelfrey (13-8, 3.72, 1.44 WHIP) against Jordan Zimmerman RHP, 0-0, 4.50, 0.90). Pelfrey got the win against Washington on April 9, going 6 innings and giving up 2 ER. He got a ND in a loss on May 12, giving up 5 ER in 5.2 IP. J. Zimmerman has pitched 10 innings in 2 starts. He was impressive on August 31 against Florida, 6 IP, no ER. I moved here in January, 1988. When I got here, my lifelines to the Mets were the early edition of [u:1jfbnozx]The Daily News[/u:1jfbnozx] and WOR on my cable system. Given the access we now have, its hard to believe that the only way that I could read about the Mets was in a day old game story. Then the cable company dropped WOR so I couldnt see the Mets on TV unless they made it to a national broadcast. Compare that to what we have now: you can see every game via Extra Innings and mlb.tv (except for FOX games not shown in this marketdont get me started about this restriction) and you can talk with fellow Mets fans in real time. With todays technology, the 250 miles from New York seems shorter. [u:1jfbnozx]September 7, 7:10[/u:1jfbnozx], Dillon Gee (RHP, MLB debut) against Yunesky Maya (RHP, MLB debut). Hey! My sons name is Dylan and Im going to this game with someone else named Dylan! Gee is a former Cyclone. For Buffalo this year, he was 13-8, 4.96 ERA and 1.333 WHIP. He struck out 165 in 161.1 innings. Maya is from Cuba. According to [u:1jfbnozx]The Washington Post[/u:1jfbnozx], In his two starts at Syracuse, Maya has allowed one run, eight hits and five walks while striking out nine in 10 1/3 innings. The Nationals signed Maya, 28, this summer to a four-year, $6 million contract and see him as a fixture in their future rotation. The Redskins stink. Not just on the field but in every other way you can imagine. The owner is a megalomaniacal idiot. The media whores itself out to the Redskins. Their fans areready for this?dumber than MFY fans (they know nothing about football, dont think about the racism of the team name and logo, and go crazy when they win even one game). My hatred for them is so great, I once had a discussion with another New York transplant: we wondered if it would be better for the Redskins to go 0-16 or 2-14 with the two wins at the beginning of the year, thereby building up their hopes only to see them shatter over the rest of the season. I love the Jets. My 2nd favorite team is whoever is playing the Redskins. [u:1jfbnozx]September 8, 12:35[/u:1jfbnozx], R.A. Dickey (9-6, 2.91, 1.18) against Livan Hernandez (RHP, 9-10, 3.81, 1.34). This will be Robert Allens 3d start at Washington this year: on May 19, his Mets debut, he went 6 IP, 2 ER and on July 3, the "Frankie Rodriguez, National TV, we had a chance to show-up Strasburg, my family sat in the heat for 4 hours, blow-up game, going 7 innings, 0 ER. Adam Kennedy has a HR against Dickey and I. Rodriguez is 4-12. Livan does it better during the day and this is a day game: his day ERA is 2.70; his night ERA is 4.41. Hes pitched against the Mets three times this yearthis is unbelievable20.1 innings, 3 ER. Facing Livan, Wright has 4 career HR while Castillo is 11-61. Nationals Park is nice. Almost plain vanilla but its easy to get in and out of (thats what she said) and the ticket prices are reasonable when compared to Citi Field. Bens Chili Bowl (3B side) is wonderful and a DC treasure. Infield: 1B Adam Dunn, 2B Adam Kennedy or newbie Danny Espinosa, SS, Ian Desmond, 3B, Ryan Zimmerman. People have the impression that that the DC Metro system is great. Metro sucks. Theres no other way to say it. You think that your subway ride at $2.25 a pop is bad, try Metro for $5 (they charge by distance). Part of the problem is that it requires funding from Congress, local states and the public. Southern Virginia blocks necessary funding out of spite for Northern Virginia. Congressmen from out there block funding, even though their constituents come here on vacation. The fares continue to increase and get more confusing: we now have fares labeled peak; off-peak and peak of the peak. Workers text while driving the train. People have died while riding the Metro. Metro sucks: http://unsuckdcmetro.blogspot.com Outfield: LF Roger Bernadina, CF Nyjer Morgan, RF, Mike Morse. Apparently, you can commit multiple transgressions in baseball, be penalized, and still play pending an appeal process that takes almost as long to resolve as a case before the Supreme Court. Absurd. Some good things about the DC area. The school system in Montgomery County, MD is excellent (theyve taken care of my sons and thats all you can ask); the afternoon traffic reporter on WTOP is great http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/11/19/AR2009111904267.html; the Cherry Blossoms are nice; housing prices are exorbitant but better than in New York; Johnny Holiday, voice of Maryland Terrapin football and basketball, is excellent; I enjoy being able to get good seats at Nationals Park to see the Mets Im still thinking. Catcher: either Ivan Rodriguez or Will Nieves. Listen up tourists: thank you for visiting DC. When you are wandering aimlessly around the LEnfant Plaza vicinity, I will help you find the Air & Space Museum (Metro refuses to put up a sign saying which exit to use so many tourists get out at the wrong exit). However, when youre in the Metro, dont be a jerk. The fare cards have an arrow on them. That means that you put the card into the turnstile according to the direction of the arrow. The fare cards go in the machine at the beginning and end of your ride, so dont block the exit finding your card. On the escalators (the ones that work), we walk on the left, stand on the right. Metro thinks its rude to tell you this but I dont care. Dont block the escalatorI want to get home. On the train, dont stand in front of the door and force us to go around you. Dont take an extra seat for your luggageIve been up since 4:30 and want to sit down. This isnt a playground so dont let your kids twirl around the metal poles and pull themselves up and down on the overhead bars. Be consideratedont embarrass Iowa, Idaho or wherever the frig youre from. Bullpen: the closer is Drew Storen. Exs: Livan Hernandez. Willie Harris: .190, 7 HR in only 36 H, 28 RBI. Managers: Both guys over-manage and may have lost control of their teams. One will be back next year, which means that my friend has another year to make her move, and the other better not be. Good website: http://www.natsfangirls.com
  20. Hire the GM. Let him hire the manager. The manager hires his coaching staff. Not the other way around or in another order. The GM works closely with the manager. The manager needs "his guys" on his staff. Top down.

  22. From Adam Rubin: Here's an interesting press conference turn with James Blake at the U.S. Open by Citi Field ... You have the Mets cap on. Should Manuel go? "Man, I don't know. I don't want to start a feud with them." Talk as a fan. "As a fan, I'd love to see some change because the last couple years have been rough. I like the guys. [Jose] Reyes, [David] Wright, [Carlos] Beltran, [Johan] Santana has had a great year, just such hard luck. He has no run support. I think it might be time for a change. Hopefully they can have a better year next year." Who do you see as manager? "I don't know. I'm a tennis player, not a baseball player. I don't know who is the best candidate. But maybe it's time for a change. We'll see."
  23. The Mets have a day game tomorrow in Chicago--I thought that there was a rule that a team can't play a night game if it has a day game the next day in another city.
  24. Dibble. Outtahere. I hope XM does the same so I can listen to the morning show again. http://natsinsider.blogspot.com/2010/09/dibbles-tenure-with-masn-over.html
