  1. I'm concerned that Alderson, as one of Selig's Lieutenants, would follow the MLB line on the slotting system for the draft.
  2. Benjamin Grimm wrote: My hunch is Hahn, and I have no idea why. Completely uneducated hunch. Hahn went to Michigan (also Harvard Law). F. Wilpon went to Michigan.
  3. Zvon: you're a good dude. No sweat.
  4. Zvon wrote: Don't be petty. I don't think I'm being petty. I don't want anything good to happen to the Phillies. I hope Halladay emplodes in the 9th and the Reds win.
  5. The Amazin' Avenue blog just tweeted: I have no love lost for the Phillies but I'm sure as hell rooting for Halladay here. Why would any Mets fan want anything good to happen to the Phillies or see their fans happy? Do you think that Phillies fans would be rooting for a Met pitcher in the same situation? I know that we don't have to lower ourselves to their level, and that we can appreciate greatness, history and artistry, but F the Phillies.
  6. Go Twins! And to pump you up, here's their new theme song, written by Craig Finn of The Hold Steady, and performed with members of The Baseball Project: http://minnesota.publicradio.org/collections/special/columns/music_blog/archive/2010/09/dont_call_them.shtml http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/Playoff-anthem-Hold-Steady-singer-salutes-Minne?urn=mlb-271838
  7. Frayed Knot wrote: I hate the built-in extra day off. Id like to see the first round played with either one or even zero days off, but while two is acceptable three is horrid. Eight days to play five games changes the nature of how the game is played all year. In this case the NL gets one series with the extra day off and Philly, having the best record, got first choice if they wanted it or not. Naturally they took it and will only have to use 3 pitchers even if it goes the whole 5 games. You're right: baseball is played on every Friday and Saturday all season long until the first round of the playoffs when one league has Friday off and the other has Saturday off. And, as you said, the benefit of a deeper rotation is lost.

  9. Gwreck said October 5. Unless I missed something, he wins.
  10. September 17, 2007. I'm standing behind the Mets dugout at RFK waiting for the game to begin. I'm worried about the Mets starter, Brian Lawrence, and wondering how the Mets could have such a lousy pitcher starting such a big game. Omar walks by, a little grin on his face, and I'm thinking "it's his fault." http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/WAS/WAS200709170.shtml

  14. Ceetar wrote: Steve Popper and Jon Heyman annoyed that we are reveling in this. Why am I not supposed to be overjoyed about finally getting rid of a bad guy who mismanaged something I love for years? Agreed Ceetar.
  15. "We have a lot of work to do to regain your confidence and support." No kidding.
  16. 1:30 presser. Goodbye Jerry. Heyman, in the midst of telling us what great people Jerry and Omar are, says that Omar is staying "in some capacity."
  17. Fman99 wrote: Does anyone know when the spring training schedules are released? The Fman family is looking at a March 2011 sojourn to Port St Lucie for Fboy's birthday, among other destinations... The Cardinals and Braves have announced their ST schedules, which means that we know 11 games of the Mets schedule: http://www.springtrainingonline.com/features/master-schedule.htm

  19. Good thread. I like when you can see everything at one place. At CF, you have to go to multiple boards to gather all of the pertinent information. For that reason, I like the set up at Nationals Park. Also at CF, I hate the signage to the left and right (e.g. Goya, Arpielle). It's looks tacky and minor league.
  20. Reds. As easy as the Minnesota-MFY series. For this one, I have nothing against the Reds to prevent me from rooting for them to win (unless Pete Rose has returned) instead of just rooting for the MFPs to lose. Zvon: I bet you are.
  21. Damn. I hated the SF fans when I saw the Mets in SF this past July. I wanted the SOB that looked at me in my Mets gear who said "we don't want your kind here" to suffer. I now have to root for them against the Braves.
  22. Thanks Zvon. There was no need to mention Thole or anybody else as he won't be managing these players any longer. Even to the end, he couldn't just shut his mouth.
  23. Zvon wrote: Edgy DC wrote: Jerry putting his foot in it in the post-game... Are you referring to his comment that singled out Thole? What did he say?
  24. metirish: fixed. "Congrats" to Chad Ochoseis and GYC.
